The plane is looking great, but that pilot is due for an Article 15.  His mustache is definately NOT withing AFR 35-10 limits.

Fantastic work on all these projects guys! I'm overwhelmed! I better get my pics of the Wright Flyer up soon so you all know I'm really in this.

Sgt. how did you get such a smooth, yet shiny finish on your NMF Mitchell? I am duly impressed!

Airmaster, great work on your projects as well! I love the Petty car, that brought back a rush of memories for me. Thanks!

Okay, now to go get those pics!

It isn't the most authentic look for a NMF, but I like it.

It's quite simple, it's just Testors Metallic Silver, clearcoated with Testors High Gloss enamel, and buffed with Mequirers Cleaner/Wax, car wax.

Without the clear, the silver never will hold up to any kind of handling, as you guys well know.

Thanks,

Hey HKShooter good to see ya out there. Know what you mean about other builds. I have six going on right now and just finished one the other day. Now it's time to get down to business with my C-47 for this build with the SSGB crossover. Cant wait to see what you do to that Monogram Typhoon. If it is anything along the lines of the Mustang you are building it will turn out great. I am enjoying your progress reports on that one.

Steve.

Thanks Sgt! I'll keep that in mind for my next NMF Build.

Meanwhile, as promised, here are my pics of the Revell "100 Years of Flight" Commemorative model kit of the Wright Flyer that I'm building for this Group Build.

Here is the main wings assembled. The struts have already been touched up with more paint:

Here is a detail shot of the engine and chain drive. The U-shaped cradle is where Orville will be laying:

The oil stains beneath the engine didn't come out like I'd hoped, but I think I'll leave them that way for now.

Here is the front rudder assembly:

This will go on after I've rigged the main wings so that it isn't in the way while I'm rigging.

Well, that's what I was able to get done in the middle of my medicinal fog that I'd been in while fighting this cold. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

I think this plane is awesome, I am not really into model planes, prefer cars but the detail is great! Big Smile [:D]

Thank you Pink! This one will be getting better as I get it rigged and put together. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the diorama part done. I also figure I'll make the propellers detacheable so I can replace them with some clear representations of spinning props to complete the diorama.

I'll post more once I get some progress done.

Nice work on the Wilbur - Orville thingie.  The wood staining on the struts looks very good.

Doing this one in "Sundowners" markings. I'll get some pics up this weekend!

Thanks Jin and Grandma L. I'm glad you like it. Jin, this is a funky scale: 1/39 scale, but it is a lot of fun to build. I should be able to get it rigged this weekend hopefully.

Grandma L, thanks again. I got that wood-stain trick from someone who taught it to me for staining the handles of pioneer tools that are mounted on tanks. It seems to be working well for this model.

I'll post more pics when I get more done.

Charlie, looking forward to seeing your Sundowner Crusader.

awesome pictures of Wright bros plane!  Im sure you can find a good diaoroma for it smiles

and here is my finished Flying Tiger.

I had pretty hard time putting up the tiger shark face on the bottom of nose at least it comes up good Big Smile [:D]  also  hopefully you can see cable attach from tail to the wings.  im wondering how to attach it good since i use testor glue and a fish line and color it to black.  Also weathering, i use new weathering from Tamyia weathering masters and looks like make up box with 3 different kind of colors.  comes up pretty nice.

any feedback and comment are welcome   Enjoy

Thanks Silentmodeler! I'm glad you like the Wright Flyer.

Your Flying Tiger looks fantastic, the weathering is incredible. Looks very much like a well-used combat veteran!

As for the cable, what I'd use is thick CA glue to attach it to the model. That tends to be stronger than Testors glue for something like this. Also, in the wings where the cable attaches, you could use a pin vise to drill a small hole to insert the fishing line and glue into place, if you haven't already. If the fishing line is nylon, one way to tighten it up is to heat up a blade in a flame and the move it near the fishing line. The heat coming off the blade will make the fishing line tighten right up. Be very careful though that you do NOT touch the line with the hot blade, and pull it away from the line once the cable is tight enough. Otherwise it may tighten up so much that it pulls right out of your connection points.

Keep building 'em guy! You're doing excellent!

Well it looks like this has got off to a good start, the Wright flyer and P-40 came out nice.

I finally got started on mine but I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up, I'm doing the 1/72 Revell X-15 not an SR-71, I must have had something else on my mind. Dead [xx(]

Anyway it looks like a nice little kit and I'll get some pics posted as soon as I have something to show.

I have the first step towards my F-89J, spread out the parts and start developing a plan of attack for the assembly.

Awesome B-25! Love the decals on that. Can't wait to see it fininshed.

Grandma, that kit looks like it's going to be fun to build with all the parts laid out like that. One suggestion I have for your planning (if you don't already do this) would be during one of your first steps, dip the canopy in Future and then set aside to dry. You'll be amazed at how crystal clear it gets!

Grandma- I really cant wait to see progress on your bird! keep us posted

usaf ssgt- excellent work on the B-25. the large markings really bring it out. get it finished and show us! Big Smile [:D]

and now, some prog shots on my build as well

not much done since last submisson but most of the left wingtips are scribed

if we could get the propellers to clear the chine things, than we might be onto something here with the radials...

I started glueing pieces of the F-89 together today.  The fuselage, wing halves, tip tanks, Genie missiles and ejection seats are together.  I tried to put the instrument panel decals in place and when I put them in water they disintegrated into a gazillion pieces.  Fortunately, there are two panels in the kit, one for the D model and one for the J model.  I practiced on the D and now I am trying to figure out how to proceed.  Obviously, the rest of the decals will do the same stupid thing. Angry [:(!]  Hubby said to put some clear paint on the whole sheet.  Is there some special clear coat for this or just plain clear gloss paint?

Thanks,

Grandma L

Use either Testors Decal Bonder or Krylon Crystal Clear spray. Spray it on in light misting coats. Two to three coats should do it.

Or other way that i use is get Model master Decal set and mirco sol  it works great.  just brush the decal set first on the model where u want to put the decal.  once you put decals on it then put some mirco sol on it.  and yeah i used to have plm with decals in the water,  all i did was use my judgement.
