Just going through my stash and dug out the Albatros for the group build and found an old Monogram Hurricane that needs to be built just to get it out of the closet. It was part of one of the Monogram double kits that included this 109.....

This poor Hurricane rattling around in that big double kit box just looks so forlorn.....so here we go!

Hey Aaronw, that Tigercat is loooking pretty good. Mine was fun to build too, except for trying to get enough weight in the nose to get it to sit right. Finally I managed to do that and she's sitting pretty on my shelf now. I think you can still see it earlier on in this Thread.

Daryl, that 109 looks fantastic! Nice work on the camo. Can't wait to see the Hurricane come out as well.

Thanks!    It was a scribing practice project from a couple of years ago. Since then the Hurricane has been rattling around in that big half empty box. I won't bother rescribing the Hurricane but I did sand off the old gun door panel lines last night and scribed in the doors for the cannons. I'm going for a S.E. Asian bird with it and I'll try painting on all the markings.

Yeah, I have two fishing weights in the nose and thought I had it sitting right, but nope its still a tail dragger. I've added one more to each engine cowling, will be adding one to the front of the retardant tank and worst case will add another to the nose although it might be hard to get it in there.

sorry I havent been replying lately, but excellent progress you guys!

I love the Bf-109 as well...

for the Tigercat, you can drill a small hole in the nose cone and pour a lot of the smallest lead shots you can find. pour some thin CA to stop the rattling around, and then fill the hole. I learned that works everytime, and you dont have to have lead sinkers obstructing your construction

Progress Report....Air Master's RM 1/48 F-106A.

YeeeeeHawwwww! Fusalage is finally together! Landing gear and drop tanks assemblies are finished. Right now I am in the process of putty, sanding and re-scribe. OH JOY!

I have decide I am not going to use the OOB decals and bought a set of Eagle Strike decals for the 539th FIS and I'm also going to add custom decals to the drop tanks... blue lightning bolts to match the tail art. I am thinking of adding some nose art also when I find something that appeals to me and make a custom decal for that also.

Yes, there are pics! Dont mind the rubber band.

Hello all. nice progress pics guys.

I've been detailing some of the wheel bays but Revell has got a ton of detail on this plane. unfortunately the fit leaves much to be desired but hey oh well.

Styrene Putty. (Also posted in Techniques)

Trying a new putty technique on my Six that seems to work a lot better than using green or white putty. Mix styrene shavings with testors model glue, the glue breaks down the shavings into a gooey mixture, stir it up well and add more glue if necessary, apply generouly with toothpick over seem lines and let dry 12 to 24 hours. It's a little tougher to sand... start with a course grit and work down to a fine grit until smooth... wet sand for best results. The end result is worth it and the surface of the model is all styrene and no putty that can show through paint.

ONLY USE THIS TECHNIQUE IF YOU HAVE RE-SCRIBED MODEL!

The results are outstanding!

Hey, I'd like to join this group build with my F-106A I started last night.

I have microscale 48-988 "Convair F-106A Delta Dart 87th FIS" for it and also the Eduard canopy mask.

I see everyone is progressing very well with their builds! I was home sick today and was in my bed when I reallized that I have 6 models waiting to be built, and nomatter how simple a kit is, it usually takes me 2 mos to finish.

CRUNCH TIME!!!

sorry to weasle out on you guys, but I'm going to fill the bottom rear panel lines and keep the ones I scribed on the front bottom and the raised ones on the top. I need to get this cleared out of the way, and I know that if I wait until I finish my Corsair, I will never finish the Blackbird.

sorry guys, but I'm taking the easy way out. I won't be able to do much modeling for four years after my summer break starts.

I wouldn't call that weaseling; it's a hobby, after all. It's not as if you're walking out in the middle of open heart surgery or something.

Good luck!

You got more accomplished on your model than I usually do in several weeks.  Great job.

Thanks Mark, I tried to keep it OOB so there is nothing in the cockpit except the Monogram pilot and the glued on decal instrument panel. But then I tried using the kit canopy and it was just awful, so I cut out a vac canopy and glued it on. I was doing the landing gear last night and those skinny little main wheels just didn't look right so I put some Hasegawa wheels on it. Decals have been scrounged from my decals book.

This will be the one that fills up my homebuilt display case. I'll have to refinish that room in the basement so I can start filling that case I bought from the local hobby shop.

The second submission for this Group Build is now completed.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have managed to finish a model that I've been wanting to build for a long time, once my skills developed to a point when I was able to do this kit justice. That is if you can do justice to a Revell kit.....

Well, I at least did my best to do just that and I believe that I have succeeded. Thank you for including me in this Group Build so I could build this model.

Here it is. Revell's Commemorative Kit for "100 Years of Flight", The Wright Flyer:

Above is the view looking from the front.

Next is the view from behind it:

And here is an oblique view showing a bit more of the rigging and engine details:

I am fully finished with this model of the aircraft itself. Later, when I can get him painted to my satisfaction, I'll add Orville and eventually I'll try to place this on a dio base recreating the first flight.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Duke,

Wonderful job on the Wright Flyer! Bow [bow]  A friend of mine at work just sent me several photos of the real plane that is at the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.  Those along with the photos that I took of the plane that is at the Kittyhawk museum should help me when I start in on a kit that you have me wanting to build.

Thanks everyone! I am so glad you like it. Yeah. when I saw all that rigging I got a bit scared too. But then, my desire to see this finished overrode that and I actually found myself really enjoying this one. Even the riggiing!

Scotty, More Power to you on yours! I'm glad you got better pics than I did, I was working off slim resources. I hope you have as much fun as I did with your build, and I can't wait to see yours all done.

Keep plugging guys, and thanks again for the great compliments!

I have a RM P-51D that I'm nearly finished with the cockpit - a build for the local VFW in Tuskegee Airmen markings. Would I have to start another kit to join?Confused [%-)]

as for the P-51D, I am asking the members of this GB about what I should do. I don't want to have complete power in this thread.

Finished off the Monogram quick build Hurricane. The empty spot in the stash closet was quickly filled by a trip to Blizzardcon in Columbus today.

Decals from partial sheets in the decal book. Had to scrounge a vacform canopy and some wheels left over from previous Hurricane projects.
