Darren,

Thanks! It was much easier than I thought. I would definately give it a go at doing the exhausts if I were you.

I have now finished the mesh and I'm just waiting for the paint to dry. My card technique did not look good so I tried something else...........more on that later!Wink [;)]

Dave, Nice job on the Barracuda. I too really like the shading / dry brushing and would love to hear what colors / paints you used.

Thanks,

Got a bit more done on the Spitfire and the Lynx, I've sprayed the yellow leading edges and sky fuselage band on the Spitfire and have done some more sanding on the Lynx.

It seems like these two builds are taking ages............I'll be glad to them finished.

Lads I came across this image this morning on Hyperscale and thought it was simply too good to pass up as a reference for this build.

I'm not sure if that's a Seafire Mk.II or a Spitfire Mk.V but the other types you can spot apart from the Corsair are a Martlet, a couple of Sea Hurricane and a couple of Barracudas.  Note the way the camo on the spine of the Sea/Spitfire doesn't join neatly at the top and just how bleached out the paint job is.

Cheers

Darren, I agree with everyone else - good photo. It covers pretty much all the WWII FAA acft being built in this GB.

I use Humbrol 78 for the base colour. The wash is matt black thinned with turps and the weathering is just Hu78 with various quantities of matt white added to it.

Very impessive models getting done here so far!

Hello Crew.Pirate [oX)]

At long last I am happy with my Spitfire! Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

I did some more painting here and there and now it suddenly looks "right" to me. The cannon barrells need to be done, but that aside the fuselage is done. Honest. No really......I like it much better now.

That stuff about me being a real picky Spitfire freak is just a rumour..........Mischief [:-,]

OK, not the best thing since sliced bread I'll grant you, but I'm happy with it.Smile [:)] So indulge me.....

Thanks for that Darren, there were murmurs happening below decks about where the heck this week’s ration of rum had gotten to Thumbs Up [tup].

The Spit looks excellent, don't forget to post some pics here of the finished product.

Dave, thanks for the heads up on the weathering technique it certainly looks very effective.

:::Progress Update:::

Well I have now made a good start on my Gannet and so far there have been no problems what so ever in the assembly of the cockpit.  One thing I did pick up on from research was that the cockpit is actually all black, not grey as stated in the instructions.

Cheers

Well, I was in the workshop this morning and I still cannot fix the seam on my Lynx. It must be the toughest plastic in the universe. I may have to take a machine grinder to it if all else fails.Mischief [:-,]

Doing some little bits to the Mk.IX too, but not much as its a very sunny day here so I'm taking my son out fior the day. I'll catch up with you all later.

Have a good one,Thumbs Up [tup]

One thing, you said the fuse was done, but I think you forgot the decals.  Ease up on the rum, lad! Wink [;)]

Tony,

many thanks for sharing those photo's, that shot of the Hellcat landing is superb! You have certainly given plenty of inspiration for my build.

Now that Buccaneer...........very nice! Looks spot-on from here.Thumbs Up [tup] I can't tell for sure but is that the 1/48 Airfix kit?  You've nailed the paint job on that one for sure.

Hi everyone,

Haven't been active in the forums (or the hobby) for a long time, but I think it's time I got going again... I'll have to go and have a look at what kits are available for this one. Something not too complicated would be nice. Maybe a Gannet or a Fairey Firefly. BTW, is there any 1/48 Firefly kits out there?

I like the year long time frame of this GB. There's actually a chance of my doing something by then. Gotta get my desk set up again though...

It's good to see some of the guys on here I remember from a couple of years ago too...

Welcome back Daniel.

There are only two 1/48 Firefly kits currently in existence and they are both OOP. They are the Grand Phoenix Firefly Mk I, which I have just started for this GB and the PP Aeroparts Mk V (have one in my stash) that is a mixed media kit that went OOP years ago. I beleive that one of th european companies is going to come out with one in the near future though.

Great to have you back Pingy, the faces may have changed a little but we still manage to have a great time on these builds, especially this one which the other Darren is running.

Tony thanks one again for posting those pics, I think someone previously mentioned it but it's always nice to see some shots of the real deal.  Nice job on the Buccaneer by the way Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup], is that the Airfix kit?
