Hi all,
I've done some more of the Hellcat. The first (blurry) photo shows that I completed the canopy masking and shot some flat black over the framing.
Yesterday was a warmer day than I will usually spray on, but for once I decided to proceed anyway. It's probably good to teach yourself the same lesson every decade or so. Got off to a bad start, I couldn't find a jar of Gloss Sea Blue that I new that I had. I decided to go with a convenient jar of Matt Sea Blue, then worry about the sheen later on. Being a hot day, I didn't bother to thin the paint any more than usual, nor wind down the pressure on my airbrush. You guessed it, the paint dried before it hit the model, ended up with a Hellcat with the texture of coarse sandpaper. Some days when you're not fully into it, you should just walk away. I found the jar of gloss sea blue immediately afterwards, sitting exactly where it should have been. I must have looked right at it at least 10 times.
I think you can see the texture in the 2nd photo.
Anyway, that was yesterday. I got up early this morning, and spent two and a half hours doing the dirty, nasty, filthy job of sanding the whole thing back, as I didn't want to go back as far as chemically stripping the paint. That's the third, fourth and fifth photos, interesting effect.
The good news is I shot the gloss sea blue this afternoon, and it all looks OK, which is a relief. However there is a pigeon in my garage (where I spray) tonight that doesn't want to go away. After all this, I won't be surprised it it craps on my model. Either way, I'll have a photo of this tomorry.
