Sad to say, but some of the dumbest people I have ever met are teachers.  One thing I have learned, having a degree does not make a person smart.  You may know a lot about something or a lot of things but there are a lot of people with degrees that are down right ignorant.

The halftrack is looking great.  I love the coffee potWink [;)]  We used to say (back in the day) that when you became a NCO the Army attached a coffee cup to you hand, lifer status.  I will have to check out your Halftrack GB for more pics.

Hey Nam for the record I didn't nark ya out. Your telling on yerself!  I heard and know nothing! NOTHING! I'll sneak ye a bit of me rations until the Capt settles down. Surprised he did not put ye on 48 hour building detail duty at the end of this month for yer unmentionable indiscretians... Dead [xx(]

Formulate a response you say! I am bad I know, but I do spread the wealth... ask Roger. Laugh [(-D]

Roy that is so well said. A conference call? Wow things are getting serious! So on that note I so do agree that the fellowship here is tops! I do enjoy and learn much from seeing everyones builds and really try to emmulate some of the techniques and tips given. I am not sure if I will ever aspire to Franks level of patience and detail but have not given up on it. Then Darren is just a factory of excellent work so thus inspired I keep plugging away!

This is my current time stealer! All I can say is nothing makes you appreciate and miss Aircraft models more than a tough halftrack build.

The CAG and I had a conference the other day to talk about the crew and how some people think we don't build enough in the GB.  We agreed that it's not only about building models but the fellowship and bonds that we have with each other.  Some of us may have met face to face; some of us have talked on the phone.  Yet we are all friends that get along and have fun doing it.  As the CAG said, "Rivet counters are not welcomed".  So, we decided to post pictures of what we are working on at the moment.

Here is mine:

Mauve 1/48 P-40N

Revell 1/48 Spitfire

Hasagawa 1/72 FW 190

Hasagawa 1/72 Corsair

Hobbycraft 1/48 Bf 109B

Hobbyboss 1/72 Spitfire

Accurate Miniatures 1/100 Bf 109F (prepainted)

Revell/Italaerei 1/35 Pz. Kpfw. I Ausf B

There are others that have yet to be even started.  So lets see what you have in the wings....

An update on my projects.  I asked my little man what I should finish first and he picked the Pz I.  Spent part of today redoing it.  Had a chance to use Mr. Surfacer 500 and I have to say I love that stuff.  Now I have to repaint the tank and the color I used when I first did it is gone.  The closet I have Gunze field gray (German Tank)  I think I like that color betterWink [;)]

Lets see Nam has been a member 2 years give or take a few days,,,, Now 365 days  times 2 is like 730 days. Add a week to be fair 737 days. Ok he has like 3007 post and divide that by 737. That isn't too bad something like 4.08 post a day. All to easy with the good fellows here!

Congrats Nam! to another 300000 ( yes thats a thirty thousand!)  You add so much to this forum and my BP it keeps me coming back. ( looking for SBD pics LOL)

Doesn't necessarily have to be on a weekend either Roger.  Like I was trying to explain to Darren.  Anytime within that two week period centered on Nov 29th and 30th would be fine.  Just keep it to a 48 (consecutive)  hour time period.

Woohoo!!!  Great news Roger.  I knew you couldn't resist.Big Smile [:D]

As for the Weekend GB it is happening not this weekend but the next (Nov 29th and 30th) There is a thread up and running by the same title.  Would be great to have you and a great way to get limbered up as Roy suggested.   Roy is bugging everyone to join cause he just wants everyone to see him actually finish a model. Wink [;)]

Oh, the FOLLOWING weekend! Now maybe I might be able to do something with that! If it were this weekend, It would've been a no go (still trying to tie up loose ends from relocating-I'll be in New Mexico again this weekendBanged Head [banghead]). But my schedule here is gonna get pretty squirrely next week. I'll have to look into it

Yes Rog, come play. Dave also set it up so that some folks are going for it the weekend of the 6th-7th because of traveling on Thanksgiving.

SOunds like it could be possible. I'll check my work schedule and see exactly where my weekends are gonna lie here. Since we are gonna go for a quick build, If I can, I'll be taking another swing at the Revell P-40B (I know I could get that pretty cheap).

Warmest regards,

Roger

Well, good to see ya, CAG! I know you'll be busy until friday, but I'd like to make a public announcment. I've scanned the posts over the last 24 hours or so, and compiled the count on votes here. Ergo, I am officially submitting my name on the build roster! Looks like I'll be building the Revell F/A-18E Super Hornet in 1/48 scale!

I am pretty excited about it too. She looks like a really fun build, and am going to start on the wash tonight. It's a shame I'm pretty behind the power curve here, but I've got until April, it seems. I should be finished by then. It's gonna be the only build I'm gonna commit to for the time being, so I shouldn't have many distractions.

I do really wanna do the TBM as well. But somehow I get the feeling that there will be another FAA/FAW GB sarting up in the coming yearBig Smile [:D]

Roger

Thanks and look forward to seeing you when you make it my way.  Anyone can belong here, just start building a FAA or Navy/Marine aircraft and your inWink [;)]  This GB is by no means a members only club.  Speaking of Members Only, how many of you owned a Members Only Jacket back in the day?.....meSad [:(]

I was wondering, how many of you listen to music when you build?  Me I listen to mostly 80's and some 90's music, i.e. The Cure, Depeche Mode, Primus, you get the idea.

Dave, I can get the Iwata from Hobby Lobby with 40% coupon for $102.  What would it cost you up north?

I use the Testors Universal Enamel Thinner.  The can states 3 parts paint to 2 parts thinner for gloss and 3 parts paint to 1 part thinner for flats.  I use this as a starting point and adjust as needed.  I have found in the past that the older paints need more thinner than the newer paints.  Some of my paints are 10 years old if not moreMake a Toast [#toast]  FYI I always wipe the bottle lip and cap off before I put the lid back on.  I have had to throw away a few bottles over the years.

Dave,

PM inbound.

Darren,  there are a couple of others that are doing the Weekend GB on the following weekend  due to work/school constraints so by all means play along when you are able.  All I've asked is that you try to keep it to within a week either before or after the actual GB and that you keep the amount of time spent building the same as everyone else.  Cheers and welcome aboard.

Thanks for the information Dave.  I almost always use Model Master enamels.  I also use the Passhe H.  With the #1 tip, thinned paint, and getting close you can do very tight lines.  Last month I picked up a new compressor, Iwata Smart jet.  Now I can adjust the air better.  Told the wife I want an Iwata HP-CS for Christmas, see how that goes.

So what thinner ratio do you use for most of your MM enamels?

Nice score on the compressor but if I asked my wife for the HP-CS I know what the answer would be. Black Eye [B)]Wink [;)]  Maybe next year if I behave and the stash doesn't grow too much (and if Aaron doesn't twist my arm into buying the Gato). Laugh [(-D]
