Thank you Gentlemen! Work has already commenced on the office and so far one can report that both fit and detail are good!

Frank,

lovely detail work on that Corsair! However I think you'll find that the red firing button on the joystick should be a a darker shade of red. Oops

Frank, your attention to the most minute detail is awe inspiring.  Keep up the good work.

Darren, looks to be another fantastic project of a cool subject.  Looking forward to it.

Have been busy this week buttoning up the Corsair's cockpit.  I added the lenses to the IP, and fitted all of the parts together.

Looking at reference photos of FAA Corsairs, I noticed a few bits that need to be added to the airframe.  American Corsairs had flush mounted vents on the fuselage sides, to help keep the fumes and gasses inside the fuselage at bay.  British Corsairs had different ones, and are actually raised scoops in place of the flush mounted ones.  I fashioned these from shaped bits of styrene stock to replicate them.  They are not exactly right, but I think they will do the job when painted.  I tried to find a photo showing these vents on the US Navy birds, but couldn't find one clearly showing them.  On the Tamiya kit, they are are represented by small rectangular lines mid fuselage.  Here is a photo showing the FAA version:

You can see them right behind the fuselage roundel.  Here's my attempt at them:

AAACCCKKK!!!  Almost dropped to page two, this WILL NOT DO!!!

Right, some progress this weekend on the Corsair.  The cockpit is nearly finished, just waiting for the white oil paint to dry on the IP before sealing them in with an epoxy lens.  When using this technique, always make sure the paints are absolutely dry!  Otherwise, the curing epoxy will smear them around (don't ask me how I know this.) Dead

Thank you gents!

Sure feels good to have a Corsair on the bench again.  Best part is, I have learned a number of new things about the aircraft, some of which are specific to the FAA birds.

Ah, looking at the lass brings to mind a question, do we have a specific "focus" for this campaign?  Just anything FAA?  Does the OF have brainfade?

John- As long as it is an FAA subject, you're good to go!  Here's the mention on page one...

TANGO 1

Year Five 2011-2012.

Five years? Where did that go? Well, here we are.  Older and wiser.........well some of us! Pirate

Nice work Stikpusher, hope to see more progress soon.

I did some sanding and scribing on the fuselage to replace lost detail. Nothing worth showing so far on that.

And some touch up painting on the bang seat after the sanding I did last week Itlooksbtternow and is pretty much ready to install...

I agree, the Gannet is a lot uglier than the Wyvern.

Regards,  Rick

I second that opinion.  No contest!  The Gannet is uglier!

Nice work Stikpusher, hope to see more progress soon.

I changed my mind about the Wyvern, it wasn't ugly enough so I've gone for a Gannet instead, Revell 1/72 kit plus a little bit of PE for straps etc.

Cheers...

More progress pics:

I went back and sanded the edges on the bang seat to get a bit more of an accurate shape. Of course paint will be touched up before it is glued in place.

And I finally got the fuselage halves glued together.I put the engine cover w/o glue on just for the pic...

A couple close ups of the cockpit tub. I will have to come up with something to conceal those gaps at the rear of the side consoles. Should not be too hard to do...Hmm

and a shot with the wings slipped on to get an idea of final shape...Whistling

Stikpusher, looks good so far.  When do we get to see some more?

Tomorrow I think. Today I got a wash applied in the cockpit tub and on the engine so it is almost all ready to glue the fuselage together.
