Mmmmm... Corsair...

I love that bird!  I wish the decals for such an aircraft were still available.  Especially after reading that article you sent about the pilot and the build of his A/C taking off, magnificent stuff! Bow Down

Welcome to CAG's joke of the week...................Cool

A young woman in New York was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the ocean. She went down to the docks and was about to leap into the frigid water when a handsome young sailor saw her tottering on the edge of the pier, crying. He took pity on her and said, "Look, you have so much to live for. I'm off to Europe in the morning, and if you like, I can stow you away on my ship. I'll take good care of you and bring you food every day." Moving closer, he slipped his arm around her shoulder and added, "I'll keep you happy, and you'll keep me happy."

The girl nodded yes. After all, what did she have to lose? Perhaps a fresh start in Europe would give her life new meaning.

That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a lifeboat. From then on, every night he brought her three sandwiches and a piece of fruit, and they made passionate love until dawn. Three weeks later, during a routine inspection, she was discovered by the captain.

"What are you doing here?" the captain asked.

"I have an arrangement with one of the sailors," she explained. "I get food and a trip to Europe, and he's screwing me."

"He certainly is," the captain said. "This is the Staten Island Ferry."

I see what you mean about the seat, a resin AM one would really look great there!  Looks like a lot of work went into that engine, great stuff! Yes

Yes, how is that Sea Harrier coming along?

Today I actually have some progress worth taking some photos and posting. First off the bang seat is almost done except for the activation handle painting and snuggling down all the PE straps. In hindsight I wish that I had researched the seat more beforehand rather than just attaching the Eduard PE.I could have altered the shape to more closely resemble the actual seat. The kit seat is nowhere near what it should look like in most shapes other than being chair shaped....live and learnHmm

And all main colors are now applied to the engine. Next a wash and some detail colors. I am not gonna trick it out since I am planning on gluing shut the access panel. Pics of the RR Pegasus in different museums show variations of the basic scheme I used. Some with more painted area, others with more bare metal.

Thanks guys!  Mike, I am using fine fuse wire for most of the wires, and some solder as well.  Tamiya does provide a decal for the IP, but I have never actually used it.

Welcome Admiral John, good to see you again.

Lovely detail work Frank the wiring looks really nice, is it just fine electrical wire your using? Do the Tamiya Corairs have a Decal for the IP?

Many thanks for the kind offer, I'll keep it in mind if I'm ever stuck for something.

Cheers...

Right on Mike!  My supplier for Ultracast bits on this side of the pond is OK, though some parts I want are seemingly always out of stock.  If you ever need any parts and cannot get them there, just say the word and I can get some for you.  Looks like you have quite a list to build, I shall look forward to those!  Aside from this Corsair, I am planning to build a RNAS (precursor to the FAA) Sopwith Camel.  Have an itch to build another stringbag!

Good to see you Admiral John, good to see you again!

I did some work on the Corsair today, adding some bits and pieces to the cockpit.  Each time I build one, I try to do all of the updates I did from the previous builds and add one other detail.  This time, it's more stuff added to the cockpit.  I have used wire, punched out styrene disks and coiled solder to replicate them.  The large one on the lower right side is some sort of air duct (?) I think, not sure exactly but it's quite noticeable in photos I have seen.  To make that, I took a piece of copper wire and coiled some solder around it.  A thick coat of Mr. Surfacer 500 filled in the gaps and made it look like a proper flexible duct.  I have a couple of other pieces to add yet tonight, then it is ready for the paint shop.

The Ultracast seat needed some modifications to fit the stock interior.  It came with the seat supports, but they are already molded on in the kit-supplied part.  So, I trimmed them off of the seat, carved away some of the kit parts, and left the bar which the belts attach to on the seat to fit between the kit supports.  Worked a lot better than I thought it would!

I also modified the tailwheel and gear, drilling lightening holes in the brackets and removed the triangular piece on the lower back side and replaced it with a proper tie down point- MUCH better IMHO.

More to come soon!

This is a bit embarrassing but I promise to finish the Frog 1/72 Swordfish -- Still to be done:

  • Custom decals for serial number
  • Rigging for the rudder and elevators
  • Prop
  • Weathering
  • Carrier deck diorama base

Frank the Ultracast seats look beautiful but seem a little hard to get over here, I found a supplier but his stock is often low on whatever I have my eye on.

Look forward to your Corsair.

The Sea Vixen is one I've pencilled in for the future, along with a Gannet, Sea fury, Attacker, Fulmer............ oh lordy will I ever have time?

Cheers...

Excellent choice Mike, always liked the dragon!  One kit I plan to add to my stash someday.

I wonder if anyone will pull out the new Airfix Sea Vixen for this round? Propeller

I got my Corsair seat in the mail on Saturday, so now I can start on the office.  I bought one of the Ultracast Corsair seats with the British Q-type harness molded on.

Darren,

Not quite sure yet.  Have few irons in the fire to finish first.  If I stick with what's in the stash, it will be the Trumpeter Sea Fury in Suez markings.  However, I have the decals for the Hawk you did in 1/72 and I see Hasegawa is releasing their Harrier with FAA Anniversary markings as well.  Of course I could turn one of my Wildcats into a Martlet, a Hellcat into a Hellcat, or the Avenger into a Tarpon.  Will have to wait and see.  If anyone has any pics of the Tigercat in FAA markings that could be really unique as there were only two of those.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
