Hello Crew!
Apologies for my absence but HM has kept me rather busy this week........I've been helping an old mate finish off his new model workshop so not much has gone on in mine.
I can see you have been busy here!
I am very impressed with the fine work our X/O has shared with us, watch him.....and learn!
I noticed a couple of questions on the last few pages so for those who didn't know for sure....................
Nov. 11th..............Veterans Day in the USA.
In Britain and all other Commonwealth Nations, i.e.-Canada, Australia and New Zealand this is Remembrance Day. The date is to signify the end of WWI which ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. All British service personnel wear the red field poppy on their uniform to signify respect for the fallen and those who have served and those who are still serving their country. It is also known as Armistice or Poppy day.
The poppy is used as it was the flower that grew out of the trenches at the somme and Poppies are sold all over Britain to raise money for veterans charities.
At 11.00hrs on 11th November, the nation observes a minutes silence, this is also observed on the following Sunday (Remembrance Sunday) during the Military parade at every town monument and in London at the Cenotaph before our Commander and Chief, Her Majesty the Queen.
The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London:
The Queen leads the ceromony at the Cenotaph with her children Prince Charles (Served in RAF as a fighter pilot and is Col. in Chief of the Parachute Regiment) Prince Andrew (helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy and decorated for his actions during the Falklands War.) and Princess Anne( served in the Royal Navy.)
Out of shot is HRH Prince Phillip, the Queens Husband who is a WWII veteran.
Here HM leads the nation by laying the first wreath at the Cenotaph..........
All members of the Royal Family are expected to serve in the Armed Forces and currently the Queens grandson's William and Harry are on active service, Prince Harry having recently returned from Afganistan. As a future king, Prince William has to have served in the Navy, Army and Air Force. He is currently serving as a helicopter pilot in the RAF.
William on the left, Harry on the right.
Every town or village has a Remembrence Monument, this is the monument in the Village where I live.......................
The names of our fallen are inscribed on the sides, veterans lay poppies there after thier parade.
Now, onto the other question...........Why do you call Brits "Limeys" ?
Its actually a derogatory term to describe someone from Britain , but don't worry- Brits don't generally find it offensive!
The term comes from the former enforced consumption of lime juice in the Royal Navy which was to prevent scurvy.
I bet you didn't know that did you?
Right OK, enough of the history lessons already!
Its the weekend and I see its only fair that this "Limey" buys you all a round...........Rum for everyone!
CHEERS!!
