Gentlemen,

it is Friday. Our tradition on this ship is to observe the practice of issuing to each member of the ships company a tot 'o rum. A fine Navy tradition that I keenly engage in! CoolYes

So lads, its Friday! Wherever you are in the world, whatever you may be doing, take time to relax, eat, drink and be merry! PirateToast

CHEERS!

Yes, how is that Sea Harrier coming along?

Slowly. Now that I have other builds out of the way, I can resume work there.

Yes, how is that Sea Harrier coming along?

Rick- The FAA did have -3's in service.  The dash three was called the Hellcat I, and the dash 5 was called the Hellcat 2.  If you don't have decals for a Hellcat 1, I can certainly help you out there!Wink

Rick they used both the -3 and -5, Eduards Dual combo for the FAA Hellcats includes one of each.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the welcomes Guys.  I have an Eduard 1/48 Hellcat that I'd like to do, but it's a -3.  Cheking my limited references, it appears the FAA Hellcats were -5 models.  Does anyone know if the -3 was used in FAA Service ?

Regards,  Rick

Thank you CAG!  I appreciate the assist. Wink

Rick, Mike, and Bob- Great to see you guys!  This ship is quickly gaining momentum, that really is good to see.  It was too much fun to let it stop!

Really sad news about the carriers, and the Harriers.  The end of a legacy to be certain.

Great to see so many familiar faces back on board including the Admiral.  It'll be a pleasure to build with you again Sir!  Toast

Darren, sad to see the old girls go.

As for a build for this tour of duty I have been thinking that I need to finish some builds that have been on the shelf for too long so I think I'll pull out that Revell Skua that I was reworking and finish that first.  After that, I have a Hasegawa Hellcat in FAA markings.  I think I have a gladiator in the stash too if time allows.  All are in the divine scale of 1/72 of course.  Propeller

As some of you may know, last year the Royal Navy were ordered to decommission their Aircraft Carriers.

So, its Good Bye and God Bless to three of the best ships that bore the names Invincible, Illustrious and Ark Royal.

HMS Invincible.

HMS Illustrious:

HMS ARK ROYAL:

It was also with great sadness that we saw the last of the Harriers as the FAA & RAF have retired the harrier from service.

Here are a few pics of the last Harriers to launch from HMS ARK ROYAL.

Goodbye. And THANK YOU. Captain

Hi Bob! Welcome Sign

FAA does not include RAF Coastal Command. The timeline is non specific. As far as this build goes, only two rules old chap:

1. Build a model of any Fleet Air Arm Aircraft. (This includes the naval squadrons of UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.)

2. Have FUN! PirateToast

Hey all.....

Couple of questions-does FAA include Coastal Command aircraft?

What is the time line of this rendition of Fleet Air Arm GB?

Cheers

Do you know what kind of ordnance an FAA Mk.IV Corsair would carry?  Would they have the stubs under the wings for the rockets as did the USN versions, as well as the inner wing pylons?  If they do have the pylons, would they carry drop tanks, or bombs by chance?  Sorry for all of the questions old chum, but I am coming up dry looking through my references.  Thanks mate!

Frank,

I have a funny feeling that very soon you will have all you need to complete your mission. Trust me. Captain

In the meantime.......I have checked my stuff here and cannot find any reference to the Mark IV's carrying bombs or rockets. All my reference pics show no pylons under the wings. They did carry carry a centre line tank under the fuselage though. Hope this helps!

I just noticed that this GB has been reactivated,  I certainly enjoyed participating in the past.  My modeling skills have taken a hit because of some health related problems, but I might be able to do something.  I'll check my stash & see what might work.

Regards,  Rick

Right on Darren!

You are a brave man, taking the first crack at the nurse.  I do hope she doesn't wear you out completely, but then again!

TANGO 1

Year Five 2011-2012.

Five years? Where did that go? Well, here we are.  Older and wiser.........well some of us! Pirate

OK, here's the deal. We're here. We enjoy each others company and we enjoy building models. This GB will be open to anyone who wants to build a Fleet Air Arm aircraft. In any scale, with or without aftermarket parts. We don't give a hoot if your a master modeller ordained by Mr. Tamiya himself or a complete novice just wanting to find a easy hang out for a newbie to this hobby. You are all welcome. All you need to do is enjoy yourself and have fun! CoolYes

Be warned though, we do not tolerate rivet counters or puffy chested know-it alls. If that's you, go play elsewhere. This is for the average joe who wants to enjoy and share his hobby with a dash of humour and maybe some good natured nonsense too!

CHEERS! PirateToast

'Nuff said! Toast

I am changing the the subject line in this post to read "Fleet Air Arm Group Build" as opposed to "Re: Fleet Air Arm Group Build-In Reserve" so that any replies from here on out show it as active.

Darren- Thank you so much for that kind offer!  You know, both of those options look exactly like what I am looking for.  If there is one you would rather build, by all means keep that one and send the other one over.  If either one is good for you, pick which one you would like me to build and I will build that scheme!

Now THIS is what I signed on for!  Sure is good to see the ship running again.

Darren, Mike, and Dave- what a joy this is to build with you again!  Watch out men, the CAG is on the prowl and he is taking no excuses for empty mugs and barren benches!  To task I say, quickly before he sends his undercover team to infiltrate the mess!

On second thought... let them come!

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Pirate
