eatthis- Not sure about being too late to join, but the GB officially ended near the beginning of the year.  I don't think you will be able to get your name on the official roster as the CAG doesn't stop in much.  But, please do post your work, we'd love to see it!  Speaking of Sea Harriers, I discovered that there are two of them at the EAA show this year, both privately owned.  I shall look for them on Thursday when I am there and get some photos hopefully.  Any requests anyone?

On another note, I recently finished two great books written by a pilot from the Vietnam War.  His name is Ed Rasimus, and the titles are WHEN THUNDER ROLLED and PALACE COBRA.  Highly recommended!

Heyyyyy, it's not your fault this time!!!!!Propeller

I resemble that remark!!! Dead LOL

Dave- That teeny tiny Tempest is the dog's danglies, I love it!  What kit is it?  I didn't know there was a 1/144 Tempest out there.

I did enjoy the Canadian contingent, though by their numbers I first thought we were being invaded!  The Canadian presence last year at EAA Oshkosh was quite impressive as well, with the Lanc, a Corsair, P-40, Lysander, and a Hurricane present.  Quite a line-up!

Frank, thanks for posting all the pics and videos of the airshow.  I hope to get to the Abbottsford show this year as the Lancaster is coming.  Propeller  Hope you enjoyed the Canadian content of the show.  Toast

I realize I'm a month late for roll call but I'll post some pics of what has been on my bench for the last month. About mid-June I realized the year was half over and I had not yet finished a model.  I had been in a model building funk since February and decided I needed to find a quick and easy project to get myself back on track.  I had also decided that I was going to try to finish up some of my shelf queens this year so I took a look at my unfinished pile and pulled out an old 1/72 Revell Tempest that I had started working on with my son a couple of years ago.  He lost interest once the construction was done so it got put on the shelf.  I also had a 1/144 Tempest that Sean had given me and I figured I might as well do that one at the same time.  The idea here was to build these completely OOB and just have some fun and not give in to the AMS demons.

The 1/72 Revell had been completely assembled with no paint so some disassembly was required.  The Mini-Tempest was missing the canopy so I had to make a mold and vac a new one.  Not perfect but I am happy with the result.  The two builds still almost took me a whole month but that was partially due to having to redo the decals on the Revell kit.  Sad

The Rita and the Skua are still on the to do list as well and I hope to get those finished soon however a Fw 190 seems to have found it's way onto my bench somehow.  Confused

Thanks for the video, now I wanna build a fast jet, any tips for a 1/48 super hornet?

Cheers...

Believe it or not, I have not yet built a Hornet of any mark.  I have a number of them, and plan to build one VERY soon.  I just picked up three Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18F's and some decals for VF-103 and VF-2.

I uploaded a couple more videos from the Memorial Day weekend airshow.  Sorry about the blurriness of the F-16 taking off- we were so close to it that the afterburner shook the school bus we were on so badly I couldn't keep the blasted camera steady.  Still, I love the sound of it. Propeller

Cheers Richie. Your completely correct about that wire, I pre-drilled some holes for them and super glued some fishing line in at the tail, passing it into the fuselage until tight...ish then a little super glue, heat of a match and job done. At least it was until I decided that one could be tighter and I snapped it Bang Head, hence the slightly baggy one in the picture, I don't want to break it again Crying

Cheers...

Nice to see everyone so busy. I also have a P38 to build, hope to get to it asap, maybe before or straight after my A8. Love the cockpit on your Frank Frank.

Few pics of my most recent for you, hope you like and feel free to comment.

That book is an excellent read, almost done now.  Just wrapped up the chapter on Operation Bolo, and now we're into Rolling Thunder.  Probably finish it sometime this week.

I'm glad you are reading that Frank. I finished it a couple of days ago, too. I liked it, probably shouldn't discuss it until you finish, but it's a good 'un.

Nice looking lineup there Captain!  What a coincidence seeing "Scat II", I am reading Robin Olds' memoirs at this very moment, and Scat II was in the chapter I was reading last night.

Cool pictures Frank! Yes

I'll be seeing the Thunderbirds next weekend at our local airshow. Never had the chance to see their show. Last year we got to see the Blues and the Snowbirds... plus the F-22 demonstration. That was awesome!!! Surprise

Just thought I would share a couple of pics from an airshow my brother and I saw over Memorial Day weekend.  I am not sure how we were lucky enough to host these fine men on Memorial Day, but I am not complaining!

USAF Thunderbirds

If you have ever been to see the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels, you know about a part of the show called "tactical surprise".  It is where you are watching the four-ship formation pass by in front of you, and while this is happening one of the solos screams by from behind at treetop level, scaring the S%$T out of you!  At this show, I was watching for it, and it came while the four-ship was performing their "Arrowhead into diamond roll" pass.  It was awesome!  A couple of minutes later, the other solo did a sneak pass from behind, scaring the crap out of me!  Wasn't expecting a second pass!  A few minutes after that, BOTH solos did a formation sneak pass.  With two jets that low and fast together, I nearly crapped my pants.  Man, I love seeing those guys perform.

While watching the Super Hornet strut it's stuff, I felt this chill go down the back of my neck as I realized how lucky I am to be able to stand there as an American watching these men do their thing.  The pride I felt was indescribable.

One of a pair of F/A-18F Super Hornets

The display put on by the aircraft was one of the most impressive I have EVER seen.  The low, fast flyby and maneuverability demonstrated by it were awe-inspiring.

Also had some Canadian visitors (surprised to see both the Thunderbirds and the Snowbirds at the same show!)

Roger that Captain!  That's 18:00 for you scalleywags...

Is that PDT? Tongue Tied  Good score on the victory Bill!  I won a free kit from Tamiya today in their builder's showcase.  I entered my Tamiya M-26 Pershing (I know... a target!) and won a British Matilda Mk.III/IV.  I am very excited, have wanted to build one of these for a while now.
