Looking good.  Is that the Hasegawa in 1/72?

Took advantage of my well earned day off and went to the State Fair of Texas.  The day was overcast and humid, kind of reminded me of Houston, but not as hot.  As I walked in the gate, there was a sign that said "Welcome to the fried food capital of Texas".  I knew I had a man's work ahead of me (for those that don't understand go rent, or better yet purchase Fort Apache starring John Wayne).  First stop normally is at Fletcher's Corny Dogs, but I came near the BBQ stand where I get my BBQ Bologna sandwich so I stopped there first.  Sandwich consisted of two pieces of white bread with a 1/4-3/8 in thich slab of bologna that may have been marinating in the sauce since the fair opened a couple of weeks ago.  Second stop was the Fletcher's Corny Dog stand for a corny dog slathered in mustard and ketchup.  Third stop on the Gastronomical Excess tour was the chicken fried bacon stand.  Only made it through about 4 of the 6 pieces before I had to call it quits for a while.  I started sweating while eating the bacon, didn't know if it was the humidity or my body trying to rid itself of excess grease so I stopped.  Bought a Coke and started to wander the Fair.  Wandered over to the New Car Show and plopped my big butt in the new Camaro and the 2010 Mustang.  While both had plenty of leg room, head room or the lack thereof left something to be desired.  After that went and heard the Tejas Brothers ( www.myspace.com/tejasbrothers )out of Fort Worth play on one of the side stages.  Feeling that my digestive tract had had sufficient time to recover, I started round two of the Gastronomical Excess tour.  Now let me say that somethings benefit from being fried, shrimp, catfish, chicken, and of course chicken fried steak.  However, just because it can be fried don't mean it should be.  The first stop of round two was the fried peanut butter cup macaroon.  Basically a Reese's peanut better cup with some coconut sprinkled on top, rolled in some dough, battered, fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar.  Not worth the effort.  Since you should learn something new every day, I went to the bird show.  Learned somethings and saw some majestic birds fly, very cool.  After that I went looking for Green Goblins.  Fortunately I found them and didn't need Spidey.  A green goblin consists of a series of cherry peppers stuffed with cheese and chicken, which is then battered and deep fried then covered in queso (spicy cheese sauce for you Yankees and folks from places outside the USofA).  Not bad, but this here's Texas and we like things HOT!  At least use jalapenos for goodness sake.  Went looking for the elusive fried butter, found it and was left wanting.  Tasted like butter flavored dough sprinkled with powdered sugar.  Final stop on the GASEX tour was the fried pecan pie.  Now pecan pie is normally hard to improve upon (even bad pecan pie is better than no pecan pie at all) and they should have left well enough alone.  Frying added nothing to the pie and caused the big blob of whipped cream they put on top to melt that much faster (I prefer a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream with my pecan pie, but buggers can't be choosers).  Went in search of the sweet jalapeno and shrimp corn dog, but didn't have enough coupons and decided to call it quits.  Drove home and began the recovery process.  Was going to stop by the store to buy provisions for the week but my stomach recoiled in horror about being surronded by more food.

Yes I had a good time.  One of the things that helped is that no two items were very close together, so I had to walk a ways to find the next one.  Stomach still hasn't recovered from eating all that grease.  Thankfully the Fair only comes once a year.

Nice work as usual on the Hawk.  Can't wait to see her all buttoned up.  What kind of base is she going to be on?  Something commemorative I hope.

Be willing to commit to providing a gift from your stash or purchased to you gift exchange person.  Remember it's about the giving.

You will need to PM me your information that includes your mailing address, scale, era and genre of kit you would like.

The value of the gift will be left up to you.  Please remember that some members may be young people with limited income or such.  Again it's about giving and friendship.

The deadline will be 20 October 2009.

Gifts should be  mailed no later than the 20^th of  November.

Well, who would have thought a few years ago that this GB would ever hit page 500?  I certainly did not.  Cheers to everyone past and present who have made this GB what it is today.  Always a safe place, with more camaradiere, rum, great models, and girls than anywhere else here on the forums.  I salute you all.
