Mike-

I was originally going to do one in overall dark blue, but decided to change it to the dark gray/dark green/sky instead.  I looked at the markings from Techmod on Meteor's site, but didn't want to have to order $25.00 worth of stuff just to get my decals.  So, I am thinking about trying my hand at masking and painting my own markings.  Not sure which aircraft yet, but suppose I'll have to decide soon as she will be ready for some paint in a week or two!

Sounds like a great paint scheme, Frank! Thumbs Up [tup] If you're looking for roundels & codes, I'm sure I have some spares. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Everyone,

well I am having a heck of a time trying to attach the wings to my Tamiya corsair.Disapprove [V]

I dryfitted the parts and all seemed to be well, then when I attached the starboard wing all went wrong....Banged Head [banghead] I just could not get a flush fit. After much cursing, I ripped out the the spar and superglued the wing on. I have left the airtframe on its side overnight and will hope form the best. It is probably me....but just watch out for it its darn tricky if you ask me!

As for the Hellcat- I have'nt managed to mess this one up-yet! I have finished painting the canopy and have ripped the seated pilot figure from the Corsair kit so he can sit in the Hellcat.

I have started painting him tonight and hopefully if I have time I will crack on with the decals for this one as well.

Hope all is well,

Pirate [oX)]

Very sharp, Frank! Assembly looks flawless. What scheme are you doing and who's markings are you planning on using?

Busy day in the shop today!  This morning, I glued the office in, fuse halves together, and wing parts together.  This afternoon I started filling and sanding with the intention of getting it started, and by tonite had finished sanding the seams on the wing parts and fuse halves.  I also rescribed the lost panel lines.  Tomorrow I will clip the wings and attach the wing stubs to the fuse.  Here's where she's at:

Hi guys..... I had a question on FAA colors and figured this would be the place!

I have an old Lindberg F6F-5 in 1/72 scale that I've had partially assembled for months. It's been a test bed for airbrushing techniques. I finally decided to give the little guy a real paint scheme as a reward for his help (Wink [;)]), and as I have some spare British decals (from a Spitfire and a P-40.... surprise, surprise), I thought it might look neat to do it in FAA colors. The marking won't be real accurate, but that's no problem.

Anyway-- is the list of colors above appropriate for an F6F-5? Or rather Hellcat Mk. II? Wink [;)]

Thanks!

Roy, I too have used Gunze paints, although I am currently out of them, but I remember the first time I used them....I applied the decals right on top of it with no clear coat and used solva-set on the decals to boot. Talk about a no-no! Yikes! I had to repaint the whole area I buggered up, because it made one gooey mess. If you use a clear coat of Future as Darren suggested and stay away from solva-set for your decals, you should be fine.

Thanks for all the help guys,

Roy

Roy, I too use Gunze paints almost exclusively these days and as a matter of rule I always apply a couple of good clear coats of Future prior to the application of decals and another one after the decals.  This serves two purposes in that it gives you a nice uniformly shiny surface on which to apply your decals as well as providing a protecting coat for the weathering that will come.

Don't worry by the way if the Future discolours slightly after the application of Microset, this is normal and always happens to me.  You will find the effect disappears after a couple of hours and the Future becomes clear again.

Cheers

Dave, thanks so much! It's been a long time comin', but it's finally here. I just love BC and the pace up here.....so different from NY, which is so rush-rush! In 48 years I never completely got used to it. The first time I stepped off a plane here I just knew where I wanted to live!

Mike, congadulations on your permanent resident status.  I know its not an easy process and you must feal greatly relieved.  Wlecome to Canada and B.C.  It's a great place to live!Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank and Rick, Congrats also on your awards.  One of these days when I'm not bogged down with all the usual life stuff I would like to just plan to go to an event never mind enter a build in one.  It's a 4-5 hour drive to Vancouver so I need to time a family vacation at the "apropriate" time one of these years.

Frank- thanks for the pics! There was some serious talent there.

Now these Corsair interiors.......I need to check my facts on this one, but the Brits had some of the earliest models, F4U-1's and 1a's. According to the article, the 1a's interiors were painted in zinc chomate green. So thats the way I'm going.

If you guys know different-let me know!

Got nothing done today in the workshop.........will try and get there tomorrow.

Take care all.Wink [;)]

Thanks much, Bob! Not quite a citizen yet, though. As of now, I have been granted Permanent Resident status, which is the first step towards full citizenship. This means I can live here full time, work, pay taxes, apply for a social insurance number (the Canadian equivalent of a SSN), apply for medical benefits, and carry a provincial driver's license...basically anything a Canadian citizen can do with the exception of vote in our elections and carry a Canadian passport.

A lot of congrations are in order here-  Mike-congrats on becoming a Canadian citizen.

Rick & Frank-excellent work and congratulations.  That's one of the main reasons I enjoy the Group Builds-I get to witness some fantastic work.  And there are some excellent modelers in this build.

Thanks Mike!  I thought of you when I took that pic of the Hurricane.  It really made me want to build one. Tongue [:P]

Hmmm... a figure GB?  I've never really done one.  Must admit it sounds like fun, but a lil' scary too.

Found some interesting info on interior colors for US Navy aircraft.  Not exactly sure if the FAA aircraft adhered to the same color codes, but my guess would be proably so.  It does add merit to the aforementioned fact that the inside of the cowl on KD431 was factory painted white.  Check it out!
