John, that's coming along beautifully, very nice work on the stripes, what white did you use? I always have a struggle spraying white, thought I may try the Tamiya white primer next time as I believe it works well.

Richie I enjoyed your build the other day even if it was in the wrong GB! I'm easily confused at the minute anyway!!

Well its been awhile, and I'm not really too pleased with the forum changes... but whatever. 

I finished my 1/72 Corsair IV flown by Robert Hampton Gray. All in all it was a great build, except when the decals basically fell apart on me. So, I traced a stencil, cut it and painted the roundels on. It was satisfactory, but not perfect. Despite that I think it went well. I did some salt weathering, and fading on the model. Its right now missing its pitot tube and will be mounted on a nice wood base. 

Also, I wanted to share this photo with you guys because it reminds me how far I've come with FSM... I joined like eight months ago and I'd like to think my skills have improved because of it. Its the eight aircraft I've built since I've joined, two and 1/2 of which are from the FAA GB. from L to R; Hayate, Tempest V, Corsair, BF-109. Front: Seafang, Corsair, Seahawk and the Meteor.

Next on the build list is a 1/72 Special Hobby De Havilland Sea Hornet. I'm sorta excited.

Neu, I think your Corsair came out great, and your next one will be even better.  That's what keeps me going.  What would I do next if I made the perfect model?

Spike, the white is Model Master Flat White, thinned down at least 50/50 with lacquer thinner and sprayed in thin coats.  I always spray away from the tape.  I have used Tamiya flat white but prefer the Model Master enamel as the Tamiya often dries in the airbrush paint passage and tip and results in inconsistent spray.  White to me is the most difficult paint to work with of all, it seems to have a higher percentage of pigment than most other colors.  The black striping is Tamiya X-18 Semi-Gloss Black, and was sprayed on over a continuous white field.

I'm glad someone understands the stuff, because as far as I'm concerned white paint comes in a rattler. And Tamiya white is the devil's brew.

Neu- Excellent stuff, nothing quite like seeing another Corsair here!  I was fortunate enough to be up close and personal with this machine this past summer.  I like your photo with your collection, I do remember a few of those, the 109 included.

It is pretty quiet around here with so many members gone now.  I do hope they find their way back someday.

I'm like a mortgage, not going away anytime soon. I just wish it didn't take so long, esp. this GB which sometimes takes almost a minute to load.

John, thanks for the reply about the white stuff, I will keep it mind when I next need to spray some. Keep the pictures coming.

Neu, the corsair came out really well and great to see you trying new techniques, love the last photo showing your finished builds this year, very very nice.

It is a little quiet around here, I dont think the very slow load of these GB pages helps, just hope it gets better soon.

Secret Santa Sitrep.  Got my package yesterday-FINALLY.  Seems it was delivered before Thanksgiving and I didn't get to my mailbox quick enough.  The Posties didn't deem it necessary to tell me they had it until this past Tuesday. 

Thanks guys for the kind words... Jeaton, I agree its not about a perfect model, but I think there gets to be a level where I'm satisfied with the quality (despite the errors) and with the last few I think I've got there. Anything more is icing on the cake. I think its been a blast participating in this GB as well as forums despite the problems. For some reason the FAA speaks to me and I can see of the builds I have planned for next year, at least half are probably going to end up in this thread. Frank you deserve special mention for your help; I still open up the PM you sent me on Future each time start on my gloss coat.

It is with great regret to see so many shipmates leave as the seas are beginning to calm.  I know I've been quietly riding out the storm in email land as the ship was tossed about, but the damage control teams have got her back under control and she seems to returning to normal (or somewhat normal for this motley crew!)  Hopefully those of us who remain will keep your seats in the mess open for when you someday return.

Sorry to see you go CAG!  Just won't be the same around here without all of our shipmates.  LCDR Buddy- I couldn't have said it better myself.
