Mmmm.......now thats interesting. I wonder if the RN Corsairs had different paint specs to the USN Corsairs? I'm very curious to find out about this now, I'll hit some of my books tomorrow and see what I come up with.

According to that book I was talking about earlier, "The Time Capsule Fighter," the matte white was factory applied but they had no explanation as to why.

I'm just guessing here but maybe the original cowl was repaired/replaced during the war? OR it was primed in what was availiable during the museum restoration?

Next time I'm down there I'll have to ask!

Most of the Corsair photos show that yellow/green zinc chromate color.  However, KD431 at the FAA Museum has an unusual matte white factory applied finish.  Not sure why!

A question for you guys. My corsair is going to be a MK II camoflage one - any idea on the color of the interior of the cowl? It doesn't really matter, just wondering if anyone knows the official.

Thanks,

Leon

Thanks for the compliments and kind words, Darren. I really do appreciate it.

In fact, just got back here from the workbench...had to redo part of the seat. Seems as though the headrest common to Sea Hurricanes was not mounted directly to the bulkhead as I first thought. There was a triangular shaped piece of framework connecting the two. Don't worry though...it's been fixed. Wink [;)]

Frank I'm sorry but I have not had a chance to get to the post office yet to mail your decals to you.  Also I noticed on that in the photo that Darren posted (below) which is the Corsair you are doing, the Royal Navy on the side of the aircraft is in white.  Unfortunately with the decals that I have the Royal Navy is in a dark grey color.  Let me know if you still want them ok.

Darren-

No problem.  And yes, I am looking for white ones.  I really appreciate your willingness to help me out!  I picked up some small dry transfers from the RR dept at the LHS, think I will be able to make them work.  Plus, it will force me to expand my skills by doing it that way!  So, you don't have to send your decals to me, but again thanks a bunch for the offer!  Great bunch of guys around here!

Ahhh the weekend at last, I tell you there is nothing better than a short week at work following on from a long weekend.  Ok now on to some modeling.

Darren I know its a few pages back now but that is some great work on the IP for your Corsair, nicely done sir.

Mike ditto on the few pages back but "wow".  If the exterior of your sea hurricane comes out anything like the interior it should be an awesome build.

Cheers

Hey guys! Been a couple of weeks since i checked out the boards! I figure since the internet was finally available, i'd check and see how y'all were doing!

Sufficed to say being out of state, all builds are on hold. Mainly because TSA tends to get touchy when ya try to fly with modelling tools, ya know?

Friggin cold out here in Pennsylvania, but i at least wanted to drop in and say hiya!

Where is the rum??????????Pirate [oX)]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Excellent work! I definitely will enjoy watching you build this one. It is neat to see what things you have added and how you added them. Looking forward to more...

LOL, good analogy!  I used to have a 1970 440 6-pack Dodge Challenger R/T (lime green).  Love those old Mopars...

Mike-

Your Hurri looks AWESOME so far!  All of the little extra touches you are adding really enhance the detail on that plane.  I really like the arrestor hook-looks like a factory part.  Cockpit looks truly awesome!  I could go on and on.  I really am looking forward to seeing more pics of your work, keep the pics coming!  And, I won't throw anything at you for liking the Hurricane better... Thanks, Rick! Thumbs Up [tup]

Although I've never completely scratchbuilt a model, there's a certain satisfaction in taking a kit of one version and turning it into another. I'm enjoying this immensly!
