AAACCCKKK!!!  Almost dropped to page two, this WILL NOT DO!!!

Right, some progress this weekend on the Corsair.  The cockpit is nearly finished, just waiting for the white oil paint to dry on the IP before sealing them in with an epoxy lens.  When using this technique, always make sure the paints are absolutely dry!  Otherwise, the curing epoxy will smear them around (don't ask me how I know this.) Dead

Have been busy this week buttoning up the Corsair's cockpit.  I added the lenses to the IP, and fitted all of the parts together.

Looking at reference photos of FAA Corsairs, I noticed a few bits that need to be added to the airframe.  American Corsairs had flush mounted vents on the fuselage sides, to help keep the fumes and gasses inside the fuselage at bay.  British Corsairs had different ones, and are actually raised scoops in place of the flush mounted ones.  I fashioned these from shaped bits of styrene stock to replicate them.  They are not exactly right, but I think they will do the job when painted.  I tried to find a photo showing these vents on the US Navy birds, but couldn't find one clearly showing them.  On the Tamiya kit, they are are represented by small rectangular lines mid fuselage.  Here is a photo showing the FAA version:

You can see them right behind the fuselage roundel.  Here's my attempt at them:

Thank you Gentlemen! Work has already commenced on the office and so far one can report that both fit and detail are good!

Frank,

lovely detail work on that Corsair! However I think you'll find that the red firing button on the joystick should be a a darker shade of red. Oops

Many thanks guys, the praise means a lot to me.

Darren- You had me going there!  I read your first post, and went and looked at my references again.  You are correct!  It really should be darker.

Now I have to strip the entire cockpit and do it over again. Bang Head

LOL, J/K.

Hello Chaps! Pirate

I've got straight into the office on the new Sea Vixen and here is how she looks at the moment:

This is the cockpit OOB as Airfix intended, I'm going to add some crew figures so that's why there are no seat harness's yet!

Cheers! PirateToast

Ditto That is the kit's IP?  Gorgeous work, and if this is an indication of Airfix's new kits to come, I'm sold!

Darren, I'm SOOOOOOO jealous.  That kit has me thinking of jumping scale, maybe I'll get lucky and the lovely folks at Airfix will issue it in the RIGHT scale.

Frank, you've got me hankering to build a bent wing bird.  Maybe the next paycheck will liberate the Hasegawa Royal Navy and FAA birds that have been languishing on the LHS shelves for several years.  Looking forward to seeing all the builds come together.

Frank, you've got me hankering to build a bent wing bird.

It's working LOL!  Hope to see one on your bench soon.  All is right in the world when a Corsair is on the bench, honestly!  OK... maybe not but it is happiness indeed.

Has anyone seen the admiral about?  I see his post count is at 16,999.  Perhaps we can persuade him to hit 17k here!

I'm here CAG, no building at the moment just trying to cut the grass between showers. Finished my P-38 last week, it's on the Aircraft section if you fancy a look. Did you go to Cosford yesterday?

Cheers....

Hi Mike!

I got my garden done on Saturday, there was much to do.

I went to Cosford yesterday and it was very pleasant indeed. I managed to bag the new 1/32 Hobbyboss Spitfire Vb and the new Revell 1/32 Hawk T1. Saved a few pennies in the process too!

I took a peek at your P-38 and I am well impressed!! Beautiful finish! You can be rightly proud of that one!

I have done some more to the Vixen, I have fitted a crew to the office and its now resting in the fuselage. Hopefully, I will get a bit more done tonight and have some pix to show.

Darren sounds like you did well at Cosford, I went myself, was dipping my toe in the water as I've not been before, really enjoyed it and got to see some great builds. Spent a little myself but just odds and sods, no kits.

Look forward to your update, saw a couple built yesterday and it looks smashin!

Cheers...

Still checking in Darren.  My Skua should be back on the bench later this month.  Looking forward to some progress pics on the Vixen.

Where's Frank and his Corsair?  Eh?
