Darren I have decided to not change my build but to add another kit to what I’m doing.  The Seafire is not exactly motoring along at the moment and given the fact that it's the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War coming up in August this year, I have decided to do the Hasegawa 1/72 Sea Harrier FRS Mk.1.  I'm on a bit of a Falklands theme at the moment and I want to strike while the iron is hot.

I just wanted to politely ask all our friends here that if you take photo's of your models please keep them somewhere safe for when I write the article about this group build. I want to wait to end of the build (May '08)so that I can include everybody and their builds.

Also, if there's anything about the GB that you like mentioned please let me know. My hope is that by May 2008 this will have been the most active and widely read GB this forum has ever seen. We have had well over 21,000 hits already and have gone on to promote other GB's in the forum like the Spitfire and Knights of the Sky GB's. Most of all, to my mind the one thing that has really shone through on these pages is the spirit of friendship that has grown here and I want my article to reflect that. Modelling is no longer a solitary pastime! To everyone here, thank you for making this forum such a great place to be.

Well said Darren!  I have made some wonderful friends here, and am really looking forward to many more (though, we do have to wait a lil' while!) GB's in the future!  Everyone here has really stepped up whenever someone needed a helping hand, a part, a photo reference or just a little encouragement!  I can't wait to read your article!

This was my first GB, and it looks like I made a good choice. I'm enjoying looking at all the work everyone's doing and watching friendships develop. Sometimes a group of people get together and everything just clicks. That's what happened here, and so much good has come out of it...from making us better modelers to rekindling our interest in the hobby to forming lasting friendships and everything that can fall in between. The size of this thread bears this out. I consider it an honor to be a part of this build and a privilege to be able to refer to you as my friends.

Would you mind adding my Mk.46 Seafire to the list here?  I figure I'll post pics here and over at the Spitfire Gb.  Here's the I.P. and seat, I made the belts from lead foil from the top of a single malt scotch and the buckles are made from fine wire.  They actually function even though they are not 100% accurate.  But, I like 'em and they were a lot cheaper than the photoetch!

Holy cow! That looks amazing, buddy! ....and very innovative!

....but malt scotch? I thought this was a rum-only thread.

Thanks Mike!  Actually, the malt scotch was a Christmas present to my Father.  My request was that he open it on the spot so I could "acquire" the foil top!  I am a rum guy, through and through.

That’s simply awesome work on the harness Frank, I am in awe of your mirco skills .  I also want to say that I love the weathering on the back of the seat, nice touch.

Darren I couldn't agree more on the modeling is not a solitary pastime anymore.  Long gone are the days of Shep Paine's books being my only modeling "how do I do this" references.  It still amazes me that with a few key strokes you can get an answer to questions from modelers all across the globe

Thanks Darren!  I must admit, working as a jeweler has it's advantages when it comes to micro work!  I have a 50 power microscope in the shop, and a laser welder for welding small pieces such as the buckles.  As a matter of fact, the "buckles" are made of 14 karat white gold scrap I had laying around, and the microscope and laser really helped!  Here's me at my bench at work with my visor and the laser welder in the background:

For the seat, I first painted it aluminum with SNJ metallics, then a gloss clear, then the black.  It was simply a matter of taking a scalpel and scraping off the paint to reveal the aluminum underneath!

Frank - Thats cheating!!!! How are you supposed to get the modelling squint if you use that sort of gear????? LOL

An unpdate on the Barracuda. I have finally masked it and painted it whilst my wife was off for a 'girls weekend'. I used Xtra colour for the Extra Dark Sea Grey but used Dark Sea Gray to get a more scale effect. So I have used three different manufacturers paints of which one was matt enamel, one gloss enamel and the other mattt acrylic.

Been a while since my last post here. No excuse friends, but the weather have been to nice to sit inside instead of driving my mototrcycle. tempratures in the mid 20s are just perfect. So it has been little or none building at all.

And of course as I`M finished with my projects would you please mark me as so in page 1? so that I can brag about my first GB that sure made me jump into a couple of others with this nice bunch of people:)

Can anyone help me with a color question?

I am building Airfix's Seafire Mk.46 here and over at the Spitfire GB.  The decals call out for Sky as the underside color, but the Ministry called for a change over to Med. Sky Grey as a bottom color mid-war.  Another source says the FAA went back to Sky as a bottom color.  So now, I don't know whether to paint the bottom Sky, or Med. Sky Grey.  The one I am doing is the bottom profile.  Does anyone know for sure?

Frank...Nice:) I`ve got a Triumph TT600 which I`ve had since spring 2000. What kind of a bike do you have though??

good to hear from you! The article is to explain what a group build is, what happens and I will use ours as a shining example of how it should be. Glad the bike is riding well Its still raining in the middle of British summertime here!

thats definately Sky undersides you need there old chap-and if anyone argues, send them to the mad Englishman `And I will sort them out for you. (I have photo's of the restored one that flew over RAF Duxford this weekend.)

BTW, that was a superb job on the I/P panel and seat!-wish I could do mine over again!
