Thanks Darren... that's kind of what I figured but I just needed to hear it from someone that built more than 1 Spit.

OK the warm up Spit is done.  After my "Once Were Warriors" project I will be rarin' to go and the Mk Vc.

I'm wondering if you and your Spitfire book can help me...

I'm getting ready to build a Seafire 46 for this GB, and no decals are available anymore.  I have found some photos of them at Google images, but cannot read the serial numbers on them.  Most have the yellow "P" in a yellow circle, but I cannot discern the the serial number on the fuse side in the pics.  If I could get those numbers, then I can mix and match some decals to get the markings I need.  Can you help me identify them?

John, my Spit's been on hold and I've been really antsy about getting back to it. 20 days won't be too long for me to wait. Besides, that should be more than enough for me to finish my warm-up for our WWI GB. I'm experimenting with a few techniques, which if successful, I'd like to share.

...and it looks like this is going to be a busy modeling summer for me. Two GB's, the Spit one and I also joined the Kursk GB which starts a few days later.....building a Pz. IV H for that one. 32 road wheels paint. Rib tapes are much easier!

thats one heck of a collection!! Reminds me of a chap I see at the UK model shows, he is working on a collection of Spits in 1/48 scale!! I'll search for a pic and post it here!

A warm-up?  Whattcha building, Mike?

I started my own (small) collection :) :

1. Mk IIa (converted from Tamiya 1/48 Mk Ia) - currently workig on it

2. Mk Vb (Tamiya 1/48) - waiting for assignment - 

3. Mk IXc (Hasegawa 1/48) - waiting for assignment (Africa - Skalski's Circus)

4. Mk IXc (Hasegawa 1/48) - not decided yet - maybe Grabeski plane while flying with 315 RAF Sqdrn

I also plan to make Mk IIb conversion from Vb (Tamiya)

THis is a start :) but I think there will be more Spits flying around :)

Greg, that's more Spits than I've built. This is my third overall. A friend has one, my Dad has another (it's his favorite bird, and one of my better builds), and this GB makes 3.

Frank, I decided to finish up my Pfalz D.IIIa. It's basically just waiting for paint, decals, rigging, and attaching all the sub-assemblies. Should have some pics up in a few weeks or so. I've read about some new (for me) techniques online while prepping for our WWI GB and wanted to try them out & see how they work.

Just saw this.....

There were 24 F46s manufactured. They started as part of a Spitfire F21 order. Serial numbers were LA541 to 564.

Did you lose the kit decals? 

This set is out of production, but you might try writing them. I did that for a set of AVG decals, and they sent them to me, even though they were listed as out of stock.

At the very least, you might be able to use the pic there as a reference. Except for the serial, it's a pretty generic set of markings. I have some pics I can scan if you need some.

Frank, I've got some good references on the Seafire so I'll check them out when I get home from work tonight.  I'll let you know what I find.

That's the set I really wanted, but after looking at them on that site and seeing they were oop, I thought I would have to hand paint them.  Thanks for giving me new hope my friend!  The kit decals are so bad as to be practically unusable.  Thanks for your help!

Thanks for looking!  I have seen a bunch of aircraft in reserve service with the circle "P", but could not discern the serial numbers.  If Aeromaster fails to come through, the info Jon presented may allow me to make an educated guess at serial numbers.

I have a sheet of decals that is all circles and P's.  It was my understanding that these markings signified a trials or prototype aircraft.  Were there other uses for the markings?

Well I did my search last night and unfortunately could not come up (images) with too much on the Seafire Mk.46.  There's plenty of pics and color profiles of Mk.45s and Mk.47s but as Jon said there were only 24 Mk.46 Seafires produced from the original wartime order of 200 and these 24 I believe went to training squadrons.

Here's all I could find, it features three shots of a Seafire Mk.46 LA561 in flight.

Thanks!  I really like that last photo, I can tell the first two and maybe the last one are FR46's, but not sure about the third one.  It's interresting to note the different placements for the fuse roundels and codes.

I asked a while ago if I could post pics of my Hase 1:48 Spitfire Mk9c.  It is 99.9% done!  I have the flat coat, pastels and canopy left.  Hopefully I 'll get pics up for the weekend.  Stay tuned.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Pics is what everybody wants...  it makes me think you guys actually want to see what I'm doing, isn't me telling you good enough?

I sprayed the flatcoat on last night and I don't think it covered very well as it looked blotchy.  I'll try spraying somemore tonight. 

FYI my friends, This Sunday on Fox's War Stories with Oliver North is Yanks in the RAF   If you have ever watched any of these shows it's should be great.

Fellas, I had to share this with you.

First, I must thank God for my wonderful wife Christy, son Robert and daughter Melissa. They are truly gifts from Heaven.

They gave me an incredible present....

They knew the Spitfire GB was coming up, so they gave me a Hasegawa Mk. IX. That's so cool.

They also know that Johnnie Johnson is my favorite RAF pilot. They gave me this:

It's a print of Johnson's Mk. IX over the D-Day invasion beaches.

AND IT'S SIGNED BY JOHNNIE JOHNSON. Take a look in the lower left corner!

It brought me to tears.... wow.

I am so thankful for my family!
