Gentlemen, Thank you for your tips on the door. I will do exactly this way you described. I did some fit testing tonight on my Mk IX - Hasegawa is not as easy build as tamiya but it seems to be a very nice detail level on the cockpit

Darren: your Mk VIII is an inspiration !!! I have decals for this a/c but what kit did you sue for your build ?? Is it Hasegawa ? I did not see this kit anywhere (maybe I did not look hard enough Smile [:)] )

Cheers!  1500 posts - what a great GB

Thanks Darren!  I have a couple of different markings for that squadron; it's one of my favorite Spit schemes!  Beautiful model, thanks for sharing the pics! Thumbs Up [tup]

Sure Frank, it was done for the Aussie GB in about 2003 I think.  It was my first effort at post shading and using pastels.  The post shading worked out well, the pastels not so great but oh well you live and learn.

I have another set of these decals and one of these days I will re-do this kit and maybe do a side by side comparison and see what 5 years difference in modeling makes.

Ollie real nice work on the Mk.XVIII btw, the whole build looks really clean with the exception of that one seam where the wings join the lower fuselage.

I have a question to experts of Hasegawa 1/48 Mk IXc. I am just starting a build for Skalski's Circus in North Africa 1943 and it looks to me that Hasegawa did not have an open door option. Do any of you gentlemen tried to get the door cut off on this kit ?? What is a trick here? The wall is pretty thin in this area ...

Any input is appreciated.

Greg this is the Hase Mk.IXc backdated to a Mk.VIII.  To remove the door I used my scribing tool and a small fine razor saw.  In the end I replaced the door itself with an Ultracast item only because I really like the look of there stuff.

Greg, since the door folds down it is not very apparent if it is slightly smaller than the opening.  The hardest part for me when I do that is to keep the cut lines square so no sanding is needed to end up with a square door and opening.  I cut it out from the inside with a new exacto, dragging the blade backwards in the cut with light pressure.

Ive never built that kit but the one time i opened a cockpit door i just cut through the join line using my scalpol and being very carefull. Be warned there is not alot to see even with the door down. Just the seat and sidewall realy.

I chosed 1/48 for a good details/size ratio.

I like to keep myself busy. As i have mentioned i have plans for other collections to. 1:48th scale RAF bombers appeals to me, the only one im stuck on there is the Stirling. Also Meteors take my fancy, proberably again in 1:48th scale.

I dont realy like 1:72 scale, to small and fiddly for my liking, 1:48th scale also makes for some pretty impressive models.

Nice work Ollie.Thumbs Up [tup]

I have never seen anyone build ML407 in its presen-day configuration, I plan to build it as it was on D-day with a Hasegawa Mk.IX. I'd love to see your build-please post lots of pics!

I wont be able to start untill after xmas but i will be adding photos to my workbench thread in the Aeroplane section as i go. Could someone tell me which kit the Brigade models conversion fits please, i had herd it was the Tamiya MkVb but that would not work so i am confused. Im guessing it fits the Hasegawa MkIX but i am not sure.

I also plan on building the T8, G-AIDN (i will not finish her in the yellow scheme but the light blue racing scheme she once carried) but that requires a MkVIIc to start with so will proberably involve major surgery to the conversion.

It could make an interesting pair, ML407 past and presant so to speek. There cant be many Spitfires about still with a confimed kill at D Day. (I believe it was a Ju88)

But knowing me the 3 Two seaters wont be my next project, ill get distracted by something or other. The speed spitfire is also very tempting to tackle next. Also im tempted to get the Seafang/ Spitfull models out the way soon, there will be 7 of them built from the Falcon models kit.

Allright another non drinker! I no longer have to say that makes one of us.......because now there are two! So I have got to ask ollie, were you a drinker and quit or did you never start?

Never started, which is a rare thing at my age (21). Ive got other things to spend my limited money on and it just doesnt appeal to me.

Photos of the MkXVIII, fuesalage all sealed up:

And then the filled in camera port on the side, ive finished the assembly tonight and she went together with no problems, now i have to make the holes in the underside for the two downward facing cameras they carried and shes ready to go into the que awaiting some funds to order detail sheets and a paint job. That que also contains a Seafire IIIc and a LFXIVe, Airfix and Academy kits in 1/48th scale.

Next Spitfire for me is the T8 and a pair of T9s featuring the IAC canopy and the Grace canopy. Conversion will use the Brigade models kit but i am unsure what kit this is designed for. If people are going whats the Grace canopy look here:

The aircrafts website, she is owned and flown by the only Female Spitfire pilot in the world:

I think i should start a thread over in the aircraft sub forum for my Spitfires.
