John, my Spit's been on hold and I've been really antsy about getting back to it. 20 days won't be too long for me to wait. Besides, that should be more than enough for me to finish my warm-up for our WWI GB. Wink [;)] I'm experimenting with a few techniques, which if successful, I'd like to share.

...and it looks like this is going to be a busy modeling summer for me. Two GB's, the Spit one and I also joined the Kursk GB which starts a few days later.....building a Pz. IV H for that one. 32 road wheels paint. Rib tapes are much easier! Wink [;)]

Jon-

I'm wondering if you and your Spitfire book can help me...

I'm getting ready to build a Seafire 46 for this GB, and no decals are available anymore.  I have found some photos of them at Google images, but cannot read the serial numbers on them.  Most have the yellow "P" in a yellow circle, but I cannot discern the the serial number on the fuse side in the pics.  If I could get those numbers, then I can mix and match some decals to get the markings I need.  Can you help me identify them?

Thanks Darren... that's kind of what I figured but I just needed to hear it from someone that built more than 1 Spit.

Ok being the naive guy I am I just Googled MWM ISO to find out what the heck it means and the results of the some of those searches (personals) were errr interesting Shock [:O].

In terms of your questions I would say (without checking references and just going by the Spitfires that I have modeled) that there would almost no difference in the main stencils between the Mk.XIV a Mk.VIII or Mk.IX.

Also, if the aircraft was sold off to Belgium after the war chances are it would have been given a fresh coat of paint at some point and the main stencils re-applied.

Cheers

MWM ISO Spitfire expert for questions about markings.

How much different do you reckon the stenciling on a Mk XIV would be than say a Mk VIII or IX?  I know that lots of the little ones for gas and electric hookups may different due to relocation, but what about the main ones...like wing walks, the lift points under the wings, the ‘Not To Be Walked On" by the gun blister. World they be more or less constant?

After the war and an aircraft was sold off to another country like... oh I don't know... Belgium lets sayWhistling [:-^]... would it keep the original stenciling and just Nat'l insignia be changed?

OK now this may be what's known as a "senior moment" but a delivery of a Spitfire Mk.VIII/IX canopy mask turned up from Hobby Easy the other day (great online store btw) and I thought cool, as I love it when I get deliveries of modeling stuff.

The only problem is I have absolutely no recollection of ordering this item at all.  I'm not building a Mk.VIII or M.IX at the moment (although it won't go astray Big Smile [:D]) so I have no idea why I would have ordered it.

Oh dear I think I'm loosing it Sigh [sigh]

I'm with you. I had a P-40 book show up that I didn't recall ordering. I found the confirmation emails proving that I had indeed ordered it... less than a week prior. But I honestly don't recall doing so.

They say memory is the second thing to go.... can't recall what the first was.....

Hi allHeadphones [{(-_-)}]

Just thought I should pop in for some infoCool [8D]

Just came back from the postoffice with 2 parcels I got from the UK and have to share with aou all

did order a few nippets a little while ago and it all came today

From Hannants I got me a M-18 from academy and a Revell Tornado gr1 in 1/72. Wonderful kits both of them and quite suitable for some oob.

And from modelsforsale I got the real plum. An academy(again)M12...got too love that big motherf****ing gun, And something new for me,Hobbyboss`rafaele C, and boy does this look nice;)... And I have me some plans for this one. It will be painted as a RNOAF Rafale CN(for norwegian) in hi-viz roundelles and sqnshield on the tailWhistling [:-^]

only thing I wonder about,is where to find a loadoutscheme for it as I doubt RNOAF will just throw away all the american made gooddies like the gbu`s and aim`s. If any of you should happen to know a site where I could get this info, please let me knowBow [bow]

Well, there's only one thing for it mate. You'll just have to order a nice Mk.VIII kit, a good AM decal sheet and some nice resin or PE to go with it.Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

I have both Academy and Hasegawa kits and think the Hasegawa is better than the Academy, mostly because the Hasegawa has a little better interior and overall shape.  Both will benefit from improvements to the interior, but I don't know of any Spitfire kit that wouldn't, there is so much good aftermarket stuff available.

I just receioved my first (of two) Mk IX from Hasegawa (1/48). It is my first Hasegawa Spitfire. When I compared this kit to Tamiya Mk I I see a bit lower quality of the molding especially inside the cockpit. Also seeing the Academy kit above I think Hasegawa has lower quality. Is it just me or my imp[ression is correct ?

It may be a PIA :( I know  how you feel - I lost my gunsight ... flying away from me quite a long distance - never found it - maybe if i look into the vacuum cleaner :) - whatever I am making my own - hopefully a better one :)

For the pedals - it may be the only way to make them out of scratch - some thin plastic, drill, saw and sand paper .... and a lot of patiance

There is about 0.5 mm required adjuastement - you can take some from the top of the back panel or locate the whole panel a bit lower - or both. I took off a bit from the top portion of the panel and compensated a bit more with lowering the whole panel in the asssembly. But in order to know how much you have to place the rear canopy and fix it (temporary) using a tape or a rubber band. You can also glue toe piece into the fuselage anyway and than try to set a correct hight. Thanks to someone advice I was able to correct it before I glued the piece together - otherwise , imagine how difficult it would be to correct :(

Greg

Greg, I finished adjusting the seat and canopy.  It looks real good.  I also dipped the canopy in future and am about to mask it off now.  I will try to post some pics later.  Thanks for the warning it was off by about that much.

Thanks, Chris
