Thanks Mike, the Mk 1a and Vb are both Tamiya kits. The XIV was the Academy kit. All had some aftermarket bits.

The Mk IX I'm doing is the old Occidental Mk 9, with a Ron's Resin replacement nose to correct the nose profile. Think I'll choose an easier option for my next one.

Cheers

Nicely done, Tony! Those are some sharp-looking Spits! Which kits did you use?

Jon to be honest I'm kind of nervous about the Spitfire Mk.I coming from Airfix.  I find their kits to be a little on the hit and miss side.  You take for instance the Spitfire Mk.22/24 and you have a top quality kit whereas you take the Seafire III/Spitfire Mk.Vc (this was advertised as "New Tool" as well) and you have a hybrid of a very old kit with a couple of new wings added.

Still I will live in hope until it's released.

I know what you mean.  For my pedals I think I will take the pedals from my MKII kit and just buy a whole other MkII kit since they are only 7 bucks.Big Smile [:D]  I am about too try and correct the seat now so wish me luck!!Wink [;)]

It may be a PIA :( I know  how you feel - I lost my gunsight ... flying away from me quite a long distance - never found it - maybe if i look into the vacuum cleaner :) - whatever I am making my own - hopefully a better one :)

For the pedals - it may be the only way to make them out of scratch - some thin plastic, drill, saw and sand paper .... and a lot of patiance

There is about 0.5 mm required adjuastement - you can take some from the top of the back panel or locate the whole panel a bit lower - or both. I took off a bit from the top portion of the panel and compensated a bit more with lowering the whole panel in the asssembly. But in order to know how much you have to place the rear canopy and fix it (temporary) using a tape or a rubber band. You can also glue toe piece into the fuselage anyway and than try to set a correct hight. Thanks to someone advice I was able to correct it before I glued the piece together - otherwise , imagine how difficult it would be to correct :(

Also Greg when I test fit the CP the seat height and the head rest height look funny? Any Ideas?

Hi Darren,

The reason for the long absence is that I was  building a model I couldn't find a GB for. OK, since you asked, it was a Tamiya 1/35 Centaur complete with 11,769 individual track links with individual pins.

I'll definitely be at Expo, haven't really thought about what I'll take. I usually browse over the last 12 months completed models the night before and pick a few out.

Since last Expo I've completed a few:

Sd Kfz 223 1/72
Bell X-1 1/48
Triumph TR-3a 1/24
Jagdpanzer IV L/48 'early' 1/72
German Machine Gunner 1/16
Daimler Mk II Scout Car 1/35
Alfa Class Submarine 1/350
Centaur 1/35
British Grenadier 1776 54mm

I'll probably bring most of these. Looking at this, I've built more armor in the last year than in the last 20 !

What are you bringing? We should catch up for a coffee and a chat .

Cheers

G'Day everyone,

I'm just camoing a 1/48 Spitfire IX. I know its a bit early, but does that get me in. I'm a long time Spitfire fan, I've already got a Mk 1, Mk XIV and Mk Vb on the shelf.

hi Chris,

I have one comment:

- when you will put the cockpit into the fuselage, make sure you got your canopy located - otherwise you may have a bit of problem fitting this part later.

for a broken part: superglue ??

Wow! That's quite a list!

Darren, great to see you again, my friend! Happy that your son is feeling like himself again. That's got to be a relief to all of you!

Well, I got the paints for my Spit....and they are some wild-looking colors, too! Went with the Pollyscale line (acrylics...they stood a much better chance of getting through airport security Wink [;)] ). The grey is almost a neutral grey, the Soviet top-side green looks like a faded olive drab, and the underside blue is much brighter than azure blue. All 3 colors look great together, and the red stars will really stand out on them! Thumbs Up [tup]

it may be a bit off topic but searching for some references for my Mk IIb I found this article. It is pretty exciting story. I thought I may share it with fellows building Spitfires.

Hi Chris,

I am building Mk IIb based on Tamiya Mk I.  so I am current with the colors :) and I am using MM.

The colors you need are depends on the time of the plane flying

basically two sets of colors:

1. early ( call it this way)

Dark Green  (FS 34079)

Dark Earth (FS 30118)

Sky Type S (FS 34504)

2. Later (I call it )

Dark Green (FS 34079)

Ocean Grey (FS 36270)

Medium Sea Grey (FS 36270)

and Sky Type S (for a band)

All Tamiya references including colors and camo may be wrong. THey make great kits but accuracy of their markings simply suck.

If you need I can email you copies of a camo based on Techmod (I found it very accurate not just Spits but others too )
