my P40 from ebay is still on it's way {revell} and I am going to also get an Academy hanging around here it seems that a cockpit is NECESSARY so I also ordered a cockpit for the Revell.

 trust me mine will NOT be the top of the heap now how do ya show these things in flight when nobody seems to have pilots?

I would love to have one of the 40s taking off with one wheel up and the second one still down....

As for tweezervaulting, it is a "sport" in which I also partake, but do not particularly enjoy...

Here is amore detailed explaination.  The seat backing is aluminum and it was covered in linen.  This covering in 425/17 was doped in red paint.  This covering was ripped off by Austrailian troops at the crash site.  Bits of the fabric are still in the rim where it was sewn in place.

the Squadron for the Academy P 40 and cockpit, the armor and Sopwith from a local hobby shop and the pair of DVIIs from Squadron again. They are not always the cheapest but I have always had good luck with the shipping time.

 We have a HUGE hobby shop near the house {Pegasus, http://pegasushobbies.com/} and they are great for getting that last bottle of paint you need, they seem to have it all stocked. their kit selection may not be as good as it could be BUT they do have Academy Eduards etc.

Yeah, me too. I was on the varsity team in tweezervaulting myself. Lettered in my sophomore year!

I have been playing with my Hobby Craft 1/32 Sopwith and noticed 6 small pieces for the rigging that needed to have HOLES drilled in them, then I noticed 6 more SMALLER pieces for the tail to do the same thing NEEDING itty bitty holes

It looks like there are holes in the fuselage that the control wires need to go into or out of... The only way I can see to do this and keep them tight is to glue to the inside of the fuselage before closing it up and let em sorta hang in the breeze until ready to rig.

 I guess I need to do a first paint before I glue the halves together so I don't stress the rigging and not paint it either.

Alright- a little further down the road on the Albatros.  

Had a go at scratch-building a fuel cell out of part of the nose of one of my old botched Bf109 G-6's.  It came out ok.  (It's the the big hunk of metal sitting behind the engine.)  I'm pleased at how this is coming along so far. 

Made a bit of a mess of the "wood" piece the engine is sitting on trying to experiment with some wood grain techniques.  As you can see, it didn't turn out.  Luckily you won't be able to see anything once it's all together.

I'm taking my time and dry fitting everything 100 times before gluing it!  I don't want to mess this one up!  Still some more painting to do before I button her up.

Thanks, Frank!  Trying to work on this thing is much, MUCH different than my usual 109s! :)

Glad to hear you're started, Frank!  

I spent all day sanding too, but on the outside of the fuselage!  I made a few problems for myself when I was removing the parts from the sprues, but luckily the marks are only on bottom.  There are sinkmarks in the fuselage as well, down on the very end of the fuse, but I think that I've got those dealt with.

This WWI stuff is stretching me, for sure!

What kind of paint did you use for the Hellblau on your DIII?  I'm mostly an acrylic guy, so let me know if you know of a good match!

It is enamel mix myself.  I used a slightly lighter version of the German  lt. blue the Albatros fighters used on their wing undersurfaces.  The type of blue Frommherz had his crew paint the machine was obviously something they had a lot of.  Up close shots of this machine in the Prien and Bernert photo albums note the clean and pristine condition when photographed. 

I have a question regarding colors on my DVIII.  I know that the triangle on the interior is wood, and the area outside of it is lozenge.  But, what color are the frames for the wood parts?  Should they be another wood shade, or the RLM02 color?

Also, does anyone have a reference photo or a color profile of a DVIII as delivered from the factory?  I need to find out the O.E. colors for the tail and nose bowl.  TIA!

Very nice Rafhart!  Congratulations on your completion, I have updated the front page!

I finally have a WIP shot, though it isn't much.  The DML kit has quite a few ejector pin marks on the rear fuse bulkhead, cockpit floor, and inside fuse right in the middle of the detail!   I filled them with Mr. Surfacer 500, and CAREFULLY sanded them down.  Hoping to put a basecoat for the woodgrain down soon.
