Can I jump in, finally? :)  First, let me say that I just browsed the whole thread and Im amazed at the high quality of the builds! Tons of good info also..... thanks for the postings!

Anyways, I would like to join in with the Tamiya 1:48 Bf 109 E4/7 TROP ( I know, I know, already a couple in here! :), will do it in JG27 markings and the N.Africa tropical camo (RLM78/79/80), which will be a challenge since this will only my second aircraft :)  Will start in 2-3 weeks, I ordered the paints and they are in backorder... Also,  Spring semester starts, and my silly students expect things like syllabi, handouts and other such nonsense!  Cheers, James

Here is the kit:

Sorry I haven't posted in forever, I've been busy and had very little time to model...I have the the Tamiya Brit. Universal Carrier kit already, I'm just waiting for the paint from squadron that's on backorder.

Welcome to the build James, I'll be looking forward to checking out your JG.27 bird.

Here's my attempt at that camo scheme from a couple of years ago

T-rex terrific job on the 251 and congrats on finishing your first model Make a Toast [#toast]

darson - Thanks for the welcome and the pics.. that is a GORGEOUS build... exactly the scheme I will attempt to do. If mine comes out 10% as good as yours, I will consider that a success! This will be my second a/c :)  Is that the same Tamiya kit? I will pick your brain down the road for sure, I already saved your pics for reference.. thanks!

Wow, thanks for the complement I'm really flattered.

Here's a pic of the real thing that you might want to save off as reference as well.

Cheers

I finally found some free time to spend on my workbench last night.  The turret assembly and hull of my Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. F is just about finished.  If I play my cards right I think I can begin spraying tomorrow!  Big Smile [:D]

darson,

I'm strictly an armor guy (...your tempting me to the dark side though, Lord Vader) but I know a nice build when I see one.  Fantastic work my friend!!!

What is the name of this plane?  What scale is it?  Does Tamiya make it? Would it be appropriate to add to a 1/48 scale dio'...say with a Tiger I ???

You are most kind my young apprentice (I know that was the Emperor but what the heck) and yes you could pose this with the 1/48 Tiger I.

The kit is just the plain old Tamiya 1/48 Bf109E-4/7 Trop, the same kit that JMart is doing.  It was done using kit decals with the only addition being an Ultracast 109 E seat with harness.

Cheers

darson,

Thanks for confirming that plane would be appropriate for the time period.  How about these:

Folke Wulf Fw 190 F-8, w/ tan/green camo' OR Messerschmitt Me262 A-2a with camo' (what do they call that camo' pattern for that aircarft?)  I assume this is a late model aircraft (jet engines and all)  Tiger I might be too early.

See where I'm going with the camo' idea?  Tank/Aircraft....hmmmm....

T-rex:  Really nice job on the Hanomag!  The weathering looks great.

Philo:  Great work on the 88!

Greg:  The Spitfire is really coming along.  Too bad about the Ultracast part.  I've always had good luck with their products, although I've only used their seats, wheels, and exhausts so fit hasn't really been an issue.

Here's the progress on my P-40K/Kittyhawk Mk.III, coming along slowly but surely.  It's basically the same kit that Arki30 built, but instead of a resin tail it has a styrene one for the replacement.  The AMT/AMtech kits are a bit sparse on detail, so I've added canopy rails, a rudder hinge, and an extra vent under the nose that many desert Kittyhawks had added in the field.  I'm also redoing the landing gear struts, which OOB are quite inaccurate.  The colors in the photographs are a little off the true ones. I've primed it with Mr. Surfacer 1200 to check the seams, etc. and have a few spots I need to fix.  I much prefer Mr. Surfacer 1000, for it seem to airbrush more easily and has better coverage, but am out of it.  I'm also having trouble getting the Cutting Edge/Black Magic masks to stick to the canopy, as can be seen in the pictures.

Mark, looks good.  I see you also had the same issue with the cowling inserts not quite fitting right.  Every AMtech kit I've made has that same problem.

SMJ, unless I'm mistaken a Me-262 would not be appropriate for the North Africa theater.

That's a nice looking Macchi, Philo, however....

I noticed you're not in this GB.  I've also noticed this same MO in other GB's where you just pop in, post a couple pics of old builds without participating in the GB.  How about you actually join us or any other GB and participate?  The more the merrier!  Otherwise, and this is just my opinion, it seems your posting for your own ego.

Oh, and you do know you don't have to post one picture per post?  That's clunky and I'm sure time-consuming for you.

Thanks for sharing and come on in, the water is fine.

darson - Thanks for the pic, I had seen it before and was trying to track it down, thanks!

SMJmodeler - Yes , the Tamiya 1/48 Bf109E-4/7 Trop kit, here is a link to  a short review

http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/bf109e4dl_1.htm

More info and cool pics:

http://www.aviation-history.com/messerschmitt/bf109.html

And Luftwaffe Paint Info, from Swammy's web site:

http://www.swannysmodels.com/Painting.html

Mark Joyce - nice looking P-40k. LuckyModels has Mr Surfacer, 500 & 1000, I just got a package from them. If you order ONLY the surfacer products, you can get the shipment via air mail, 7-10 days instead of 1-2 months by sea.

moose421 - looks good... pardon my ignorance, but what is the green "stuff" on the seams, just Squadron green putty, or something to give the seam "texture"?

GO NY GIANTS! :)

Sorry! It is not my intention to boost my "ego"!You are correct that these posts are older builds that seem to fit the criteria of the group build. In the future I shall go through proper channels to better conform to the rules of the GB.

You got it in one.  IT's green putty.  Didn't sand before the pics.  But now it is.  Never used the green putty, but I like it better than tamiyas.

moose.. thanks for the info, I think the only difference between white/green is that the green can be used in "whitish" backgrounds and stands more. not sure, Im such a rookie :) thanks

Nice clean looking build on the Tiger Daniel, as your sixth tank model you can be well and truly pleased Make a Toast [#toast].

If I might suggest on you next build try and extend your skills and go for a little more weathering to give your kit that overall "used" look.  Just my My 2 cents [2c].

Cheers
