What's this "bump" stuff I'm always seeing? I suspect that it's to move a thread to the top of the page...but shouldn't our collective continued involvement do that on it's own? Confused [%-)]

Mini-update on the MiG - it's basically done. When I peeled off the canopy masks, however, I realized that my HUD was on a bit crooked, which I had seen before, but didn't realize how off it was until trying to view it through the front of the windscreen. So I need to fix that. Also, there's one bit of forward cockpit that needs to be the interior color that I neglected to paint. Other than that, just need to remove some Q-tip remnants from the fuselage that remain from wiping off the wash! Should have final (booth) pics sometime over the weekend. Wink [;)]

Yes, except there doesn't seem to be much collective continued involvement.  I "bumped" the thread to remind those in this GB to stay involved.

That aside, nice to see some decal work on the Mig, dupes.  I'll be taking some progress pics of the cockpit this weekend and of the next big assembly challenge I face.

Shoot, I hope there's some more involvement...isn't the GB over in June? Shock [:O]

A bit of progress on my part - the MiG is DONE! Big Smile [:D] Finished pics look something like this:

Excellent job on the Mig, dupes.  The Egyptian markings and camo came out fantastic and the PE upgrades in the cockpit really make a difference.  Well done! Bow [bow]

Kenny, glad to hear from ya.  Hope things turn around for you soon.

Dupes, nice work of the mig.  Those Egyptian colours look awesome.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

As for me I haven't forgotten about this.  Work and life in general has commandeered nearly all my bench time for the last few weeks.  It'll be awhile before it gets back to normal too but I hope to finish the E555 on time.

Hey, thanks a lot fellas! Big Smile [:D] I'm really happy with how it turned out. I even managed to obscure most of the decal silvering in the pics, which would be my chief complaint with the kit. Wink [;)]

If all of the Eduard "Zoom" PE sets are this cool, I definitely see me using them again in the future. HUGE upgrade over the kit parts. Thumbs Up [tup]

Now that I know that silly putty can make it so easy to pull this scheme off (it's good for more than just Armor!), I know a few other wacky paint jobs I'd like to attempt...Mischief [:-,]

Kenny, glad to see you around! Cool [8D]

Finally, a progress update from me.

I have most of the cockpit painted and assembled.  Ultracast seats for both pilot and co-pilot.  Great detail as always from Ultracast.  I still need to throw a flat coat down to seal the wash.  The pilot's seat attaches to another part in the next build step, which is why it's still on the resin block.

I hollowed out the gun tubes.  Tamiya doesn't provide the feed chutes from ammo boxes to guns, but I'm okay with that since it will be covered up.

Now the hardest part of this build, the bomb bay.  Tamiya provides the bomb bay in essentially four parts.  The wing support struts, the bottom (top) of the bomb bay, front bulkhead, and rear bulkhead (not shown).

Those assemble like so to form the bomb bay, wing supports and rear portion of the cockpit that the pilot's seat attaches to.

However, Tamiya only allows the back portion of the bomb bay to be open as the final product, essentially hiding the front portion which is where the (4) 20mm Hispano cannons are located.  I want to have all the bomb bay doors open and the cannons visible, which is why I'm using the Aires resin bomb bay.  The cannons and replacement bay doors are part of the Aires package also but not in the picture.

Aires directions don't tell you how to work with the other kit parts, so I have figure out how to integrate this all together.  Obviously the kit bottom (top) of the bomb bay isn't needed anymore.  But I still need the wing supports and the front bulkhead to finish off the cockpit.  The resin block on the Aires bomb bay has to be removed almost in it's entirety.  Ugh.  I have a lot of sanding, dry-fitting, sanding, dry-fitting, rinse, repeat ahead of me.  Aires does at least provide notches indicating where the wing supports should be located.  I need to find the Maalox.  Dead [xx(]

Hey, thanks HK. Cool [8D] Go get one! It's a fun build.

Arki - looks pretty freakin' complicated to me! I don't know how you manage to make all that stuff fit...but then again, my sanding/puttying/seam skills aren't all they should be. Whistling [:-^]

Dupes, that Mig looks awsome my man. The decals definetly make the camo and the build pop out. Very nice work on this one.

Arki, thats a lot of very fine work you are doing with all that resin. I have not tried using AM resin yet but I think the detail will be wort the effort. Cant wait to see it all put together.

Hey, thanks man! Already scheming what the next MiG will look like...Mischief [:-,]

Speaking of next, I was perusing the stash last night (no big surprise there, really) and found myself mentally assembling the IMS3 list in my head. Hehehehe. Whistling [:-^]

Hey Dupes!

Sweet build on the Mig, buddy!  Nicely done all around.

I'm about to start laying down the 'ocean' for the Gneisenau to be anchored in.  Should have a few photos in the next day or two.

Dupes, great work ......very clean build.

I will once again be allowed to post as I am the proud owner of a new camera. Been working oh,so slowly on the Mustang. Basically I'm scared to death to paint it with the metalizer (MM buffing type) I just know it won't cover the puttied seams and it will turn out Icky. Am I paranoid? Or will it cover everthing like regular type paint?

Will post progress pics this week end.

NMF definitely require more TLC for any body work, but if you sit in fear and do nothing...well, you've accomplished/learned nothing.

Take your time on the seams, shoot some grey or silver primer over them to see how they look, correct as necessary, and then just do it.  If a few spots come out mediocre, so what?  You've learned something and tried something new.  Next time will be better.  Thumbs Up [tup]  No one here is going to flay you for trying.  It's the Internet and can't hurt you.  Big Smile [:D]

By the way, Tony, nice to see you posting again!

Tony, good to have you back with us. Good news on the camera front so of course we will be looking forward to seeing some progress shots. On the nmf side of things just do your best. On all seams I run some gray paint or Mr Surfacer on them to spot the problem areas and fill and sand again and again. I know its a pain but I cant always get them perfect either. Good luck with it and cant wait to see that beast.

Very nice, Tony!  The ability to really show detail is one advantage of a larger scale.  Of course that could be a curse also, but you seem to have it under control.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Cool Tony, very nice progress and good to finally see the beast. Brings back a lot of memories of when I built mine. Your doing a god job on the mustang. I like the pilots tash. Nice touch. Keep up the god work.

I should have some progress shots of the Stormovik tomorrow.

The pilot had to have the 'stash because I was listening to Jimmy Buffet at the time. "I wish I had a pencil thin moustash." One other thing I did was to replace the oxygen hose with a low E guitar string, which of course can't be seen.Sign - Dots [#dots]
