Thanks guys for the kind words. I do like the red and white look on airliners. One other thing that was weird is I applied a clear gloss coat of Testors Acrylic Gloss and it didn't really gloss it. It sort of toned it down. Not sure if I didn't thin it enough or applied it in too thin coats?  I should have use Future it would have been glossier.

Now on to the Air India B777 build. (Red and white too)

Here's my pretty much completed B737.  The engines didn't come out as well as I'd have liked. I also tried using Franks tip for landing lights using pins. I filled the cut outs with epoxy glue and tried sanding and then polishing. It didn't come out to well. The overall finish was acceptable. I have the DACO kit and it's so much better engineered than the Minicraft. But I spent the same amount of money on this kit plus the decals as I would have for just the DACO kit. I also lost one of the under wing farings and had to make it from plastic card and I lost one of the main inboard wheels so I rummaged through my spare parts box and found a suitable replacement.

I'd tried using a drinking straw as the basis for slats, but had dismissed it as too flimsy. A bead of putty on the inside is the perfect solution !

    There's another way to realistically depict extended LE Slats, especially on an already completed kit, which would only require drilling holes in the leading edge of the existing wing with a micro bit.

    You could shape pieces of wire and put one end in the holes, the other end would support the sratchbuilt Slat.        Also, depending on personal preference, you could block sand the leading edge into a new 'recessed' one (minus slat), pryer to drilling the holes.... a butchered 'soda straw' makes a decent starting point for the Slat itself, with a bead of putty on the inside of the bend... after sanding it gives it the 'airfoil' shape for the side views.

This is how much of an aviation geek I am. Right now I'm in Peoria covering a trade show for my magazine. Last night I heard a helicopter coming in, and realized it was probably an OSF Hospitals bird, since Peoria's OSF hospital is less than a mile from the hotel. Helicopters that are exactly the same fly over my house on the way to and from the hospital in Freeport all the time. So of course, I ignored it, right? Nope, got up, scrambled to the window and watched it as long as I could see it.

It's an addiction!

I had a look at it yesterday, and it will take some work.. But at the momment I am still not feeling 100%, so all builds have been benched until I can get some motivation again. But I must say that Virgin 747 does look great..

Here's an illustration on the procedure I used to extend the LE Slats on the B732....

I'm not that happy with the belly panel, it isn't as straight as I'd like, but I can live with it.

The panel is Tamiya's Light Blue in spray can form, the engine nacelles are Citadel "Skull white" with a few drops of "Enchanted Blue", and sprayed with gloss clear out of a Gunze can.

What I'm looking to do is drop the leading edge spoilers - Frank , how did you do it on your 732 ? I'm thinking thin plasticard cut to shape and then gently bent to an aerofoil shape.

Sweet work, Simon! Putting me to shame as far as progress goes!

Speaking of progress...made very little last night. I did fill the doors on the Braniff jet with some Wite-out, and will tape and sand. The CV-118 seam is done, so now I have to figure what I'm doing with the wings...not the greatest fit, but a shim or two should do the job.

Your airliner looks very well executed. The blue and white and red colors really enhance the look. I like the angle you took of the plane too.  You could try baremetal  foil since the model has already painted. Micro Scale also makes a product called Micro Metal Adhesive which is sort of like Elemers white glue.  It's used with house hold aluminum or tin foil.

The A319 is pretty well done, except for the gear doors, and I need to figure out how to do some leading edge spoilers - any ideas ?

It will definately come in handy when I set out on those flaps. But you gotta love the shimmer on that tail.. It almost looks like its computer generated in a way, and I really had to look at it a couple of times..

Even without reading the picture's description, I could tell it was somewhere in Japan just by looking at the sky and haze..
