There's another way to realistically depict extended LE Slats, especially on an already completed kit, which would only require drilling holes in the leading edge of the existing wing with a micro bit.
You could shape pieces of wire and put one end in the holes, the other end would support the sratchbuilt Slat. Also, depending on personal preference, you could block sand the leading edge into a new 'recessed' one (minus slat), pryer to drilling the holes.... a butchered 'soda straw' makes a decent starting point for the Slat itself, with a bead of putty on the inside of the bend... after sanding it gives it the 'airfoil' shape for the side views.
