2008 Airliner Group Build

Chris: I'm trying to post every day, not only to keep the thread bumped, but because it will keep me on track with the builds. I know I'm going to look stupid saying "Haven't gotten to the CV-118 yet, but maybe tomorrow..." 17 times.

That said, thank you for taking care of the thread. We want this one to stay front and center.

Slow progress, but progress nonetheless ..

Last night, I added the IP decal.

I know I am a day ahead, and everyone has probably had a good weekend. But it is Monday night here, and I simply didn't want this build to fall by the way-side like the Aussie one I am in, so I am going to give it a bump when there is no action...

As for me, I did want to have another pic ready, but I decided to do an extra white coat on the 747-400.. I have been playing around with my logo's for the home made decals, and I am really torn on weather I should do both the 747-400 and the A380 in the new Qantas markings. But I am still wanting  to do a JAL bird as well.. So its a toss of a coin at this stage..

ps: I would love to know where I can get an Airbus A330 from that I can convert for a JetStar build in 1/144?

Yes, it's great to see that we are starting to get a bit of a build going here.. I am thinking about pulling out of the Australian RAAF, RAN, Army build due to lack of participation, and the fact that the guy who started it has gone awol, and I am still waiting to be accepted into it 2 months on..

As for me, I stripped the 747-400 today and filled the hole that was in the tail fin and also filled the windows.. I did a primer coat before I did the filling so I could see what I was indeed looking at.. I have lost alot of surface detail with the panel lines, but I am not too worried, they can be scribed, or re-drawn (which ever way I decide to go) later on.. Neil's decals arrived (thanks again mate) and so it has given the build life once more..  It will also give me a chance to try home made decals for the first time also!

If you don't mind another builder and kit, I'd like to join with my Minicraft 1/144 777 wearing "Lindbergh Line" decals.

Welcome aboard, the more the merrier! That Lindbergh Line bird is one on my to-do list. Very nice.

Thanks for the quick response, Eric. I'll make that edit right away. I'm not familiar with that scheme and didn't turn anything up on airliners.net. Can you help me grab a clue?

By the way, that brings us to 14 participants building 25 models. I never thought this thing would be that big!

I haven't done an airliner before, but on a battleship I did that had a lot of white (she was wearing post Spanish-American War colors) I used the primer-and-spray-paint method. the paint in that case was the Wal-Mart house brand, and it worked just fine as long as I warmed the can and sprayed light coats.

Looks great so far I've wanted to try that beautiful scheme. Is that bare metal foil on the engines?  That's good stuff too.  I also like the Paashe airbrushes.  I have two H models and realy love them. Great fit and weight for my hands.

Folks; I have a related question since this is an airliner GB. How do you all paint the white on the fueslage? I use two methods. One uses the Tamiya laquers. I spray their Fine Surface primer followed by their Pearl White color. They are self leveling and look quite nice. The surface primer needs to be built up to get good coverage and is used as a base coat.

The second is that I'll under coat with grey primer and then spray with Krylon white. It's probably the cheaper way to go. The Krylon doesn't yellow and it drys very hard. Then I'll use the micro mesh finishing system to rub out any orange peel.  Safety note: a respirator and lot's of proper ventillation is a must using these paints!

P.S. I'd like to add a second kit. The minicraft B737-300 1/144 if that's ok?

Does anyone know of any Airbus A330-200's in 1/144 scale?.. I am very much interested in doing a Jet Star International aircraft to go with my Qantas A38o..  Oh, and I am still looking for A380 decals aswell..

The thing is, that the top deck is long, where by the 747-100/200 is the short original Jumbo design.. Completely different aircraft.. Infact I am not sure if Ansett Australia ever flew any 747-100/200's.. The only reason they had the 747-300 was because they started a "few" International services before its demise... The fleet was mainly smaller domestic aircraft..

Just one thing I will bring up.. The one on the decals sheet is what appeares to be a 747-300, and it looks like the one that you have painted is a 747-100.. Not knocking it, just stood out when I went back and had another look at it..
