kg4kpg - interesting choice of marking, something different for sure! And nice paint job so far, yellow can be such a pain....

as for "pace" of build ..lol.. I only have TWO speeds : behind schedule and late ;)

I still have my IJN/IJA floatplanes and a couple targets to do before this one.. on the other hand, semester will be over next week and I can spend more time building and less time grading crappy papers and posting grades :D

Cheers

Yeah, I was concerned it would get thick but it really came out pretty good with the MM RRLM paint.  What I actually meant on getting ahead was that I meant to take some pics before I got this far along, but this kit is really a simple one so I was this before along the firsy day of the build.  I'll be waiting for the decals for a while though, coming regular post from Canada.  Guy said 2 to 6 weeks.  I look forward to seeing your floatplanes, good luck with your grading.

Here's my Revell P-51D (actually, post-Korean, I guess, it would be F-51).  It was built OOB with a few added features - drilled out exhausts, drilled out styrene guns, added brake lines, and added wheel-well plumbing.  Decals are a combination of kit, Eagle Strike, and home-grown.  There are a few inaccuracies -  I didn't cut out and drop the flaps, and I think the original 3223 had a non-cuffed prop.

I had previously built the Tamiya F-51, and it sure was a heckuva lot easier to fit together than this one!

This aircraft was one of about 25 P-51s assigned to the South Dakota Air National Guard which was formed in 1946, with Joe Foss, marine ace and Medal of Honor recipient as the first Commander.  These aircraft were flown by the 175th FIS until 1954, when the unit was equipped with T-33s and F-94A and Bs.  Since then, they have flown F-94Cs, F-89Js, F-102s, F100Ds, A-7Ds, and currently, F-16C/Ds.  I survived the sequence from P-51 thru F-102 during my part- and full-time with the ANG/USAF.  Sorry if this is too long-winded.  Hope you enjoy the pics.

Holy Cow!!  Just noticed I forgot to install the landing light and pitot!  Confused [%-)]

Raptor: I would like to jump in this GB if you don't mind. I just picked up Revell's 1/48 51-D. i know not the best kit out there, but it'll be a fun challenge to make the best of it.

Thanks, guys.

Raptor, I think I'll set the Hasagawa aside for now - have a couple other GBs underway.

Here are my Revell and Tamiya as buddies.

I haven't gone anywhere...just working down the pile of builds to get to the Mustang. Tongue [:P]

This IS one of the consequences of an extremely looooong GB duration, sadly. Sad [:(]

Agreed.  Although, ironically enough, it's saving my bacon right now 'cause I just can't get to the P-51 yet!

I think I'm in the same boat, because I got the cockpit almost done & I stalled for now.

I still want to get it painted by the end of the summer, early fall.

This is one of my most detailed interiors. I only have a fat brush but I have steady hands so most of the time it works out.

Hey all,

I haven't forgoten the Build, just been a little busy and frustrated. I have so many problems with the landing gear that I wanted to fly that thing into the wall more than once. It's a Tamiya kit, so I know the mistakes are on my end. Since the tail wheel flaps are molded to the fuesalage, that will involve even more work. Anyway, I took the landing gear apart today and decided to button 'er up and make an in flight configeration. I'll just hang it from my son's ceiling. That, and I really am not liking the whole yellow nose thing. I'm gonna mask half of it off and re-paint to see how it looks. I'll post pics tomorrow hopefully.

Regards,

Jeff

Okay, I've completed my GB Mustang.  I'm not happy with it to say the least.  I messed up while painting and didn't do a real good job trying to fix it.  I don't like metal finish, I'll stick to camo.  This is an old Monogram kit so the worse the paint got, the less lines you could see.  I have 2 pics.  I also got a Tamiya P-51B and did the same Mustang in it's final paint scheme with Zirkus Rosarius.  This one came out a lot better and the quality of the kit really helped with some detailing.  it wasn't in the GB but I wantd to show you with the other one.  Thanks for looking and participating in the P-51 GB.  Chris

sorry, kind of fuzzy.

Well, the first pic link is broken so I can't see it, but the second pic looks fine!  I think you are being way too hard on yourself.  Show us more of the first P-51.  The other looks really good also.  I give you kudos for trying such an unusual scheme. Thumbs Up [tup]

I dunno-I am still recovering from breaking my right shoulder socket, so I still have to go easy on that arm-I can't do the long hours of steady brushing, spraying, etc., like I used to.-but Iam working on it!

I was hoping someone would like this one meanwhile.

Eventually, I was thinking of an doing an AM-Tech P-51A as maybe an A-36A Apache, but that was for later on.

Hi all,

I've not forgotten this build, but the kit I ordered hasn't arrived from Hong Kong yet! The decals arrived three weeks ago. GRRR. I'll be patient, there's plenty of time, and I have a pressing Tiger I for Big Cats. On the other hand, it's an excuse to dig out a Hasegawa -D in Israeli '48 markings from my stash...

Some nice builds here!!!

Cheers,
