Progress wise things are going pretty well on the T72 at the moment.  I have the Eduard set for the kit and I've started adding grills and other bits and pieces to the engine deck.

I've already made the call that I'm not going to use the entire set of PE just the bits that I think are going to add the most value which will be mostly around the turret.

I'll try and take a few more pics when I get home from work today.

Cheers

Wow, not even 3 days off the forums and look what happens!

Darson: Sprinting out of the starting gate eh? lol anyways, That's a ton of progress so far and it looks great! Those Tamiya kits just fall together. Oh and I'll add your T-72 to the list now.

SMJ: I'm with dupes, that new avatar is throwin me off!

JMart: That's quite the little ship your building, It's been everywhere! Persian Gulf, Spain, Holland and even helping to recover Mercury 8 astronauts!....and of course the Cuban missile crisis. Good luck with it.

Dostacos: Wow, primer already?!? geez you guys are fast.

AJB93: That's a ton of ships! Good luck with your conversions.

Raptordriver: I'll add your build now.

Chewybr: I'll add you and your build to the list now.

Everyone: I'm really pleased with all the progress so far, I have yet to start my T-72 but I will be underway soon.

dostacos - Good luck and look forward to your build! I have that one in my stash, will be taking notes! :)  I also get floral wire at Michael's, comes in handy!

darson - I think the 1:700 Dragon premium kit has marking/parts for the Aussie version too, let me check... yep! Marking for the Adams by used with Greek, German and Royal Austrlian navies. For the RAN - markings for Perth D-38, Hobart D-39 and Brisbane D-41. Not sure of the actual accuracy, but looks ok to me!

AJB93 - Ugh, good luck with that! The new Dragon ship kits, the details are fantastic compared to what I used to build 20 years ago. Look forward to your build(s), always enjoy your ships!

Got my America kit yesterday and celebrated by chopping the island into pieces because ALL the detail-CIWS platforms, radar platforms, bridge walks, EVERYTHING was molded on. So off it all comes. I will move along until I need PE at which point I will hit a brick wall and back into the closet she will go. But hey, it's fun while it lasts right? And then I'll move onto the others. JFK will be a long time coming since I have Oriskany going (another "open it up and chop it up" type build.) but the others should be underway soon.

SMJ, I am an IPMS member here in Australia but the only publication we get is our own club Monthly news letter.

Thanks cdclukey unfortunately progress today has slowed right down as I'm adding bit and pieces of PE to the hull at the moment and I don't work very fast with PE and CA.

Cheers

DARSON- yes it is an OLD kit with many LARGE holes in the bottom of the hull for the battery and other stuff to motorize it Sigh [sigh]

I started last night at midnight and only lost 2 partsWhistling [:-^] one was a handle and the other one of the lift loops both on the turret. I used floral wire to replace them.

I have a practice tank for painting as my olive drab all come out too dark, it won't get too much weathering but maybe just a tad of rust

anyway here are some primer shots

working on Stuarts and 1/48 this is a HUGE model Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Anthony good pickup on the Fruil's they should look awesome on the finished vehicle.

James I'm sure your skills are well and truly up to it and I'm really looking forward to your build as I have a real soft spot for the Charles F. Adams class because the Australian Navy operated the type for many years.

Dupes so far so good with assembly and test fitting the turret and upper hull has shown no problems at all, ahhhh Tamiya Approve [^]

Dan looking forward to checking out your M-41, that's one of Tamiya's older kits isn't it?

SMJ what is this issue of IPMS you are referring too, is it a club mag of some sort?

All I don't usually use rubber band tracks but am going to go with them for this build, so can you tell me must I use enamel paints or can I use acrylics to paint them?

Cheers

I won't be using PE but I didnt like my kit tracks so I picked up Friul's for $30.00 on ebay,I also won't be starting too soon,I am taking an armor break building Tamiya's I-400 for the "Ship-Sinkers Build',then I got a 1/48 Fireflly for a "Sherman Group Build"on Armorama, then its on to the T-72 probably late spring early summer.......can't wait

I am building the Tamiya M41 bulldog. not a bunch of parts I dutifully waited until after midnight then I started bulit the turret and most of the upper hull.

this one won't have a ton of weathering since it will not be actively fighting. I think I might just have it driving down an asphalt road, or maybe a green field.

 pictures later today

darson/darren - quick start there mate! How does the Tam T-72 build? usual 'easy" Tamiya fit?  I will start in a couple months, still have to finish a 1:72 modern armor for the MA GB and that Bf109 TROP for the Desert GB that you so graciously helped by posting your pics; I still hope mine comes out a fraction as good as yours!

My entry will be the Guided Missile Destroyer  USS Charles F Adams (DDG-2); Dragon Premium kit, 1:700. Will be my first foray in the world of PE.

I may have posted this already, but here it is again.. for a review of the kit see here:

http://www.modelshipwrights.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=2339

For a history of the ship, see here:

http://www.bozair.com/adamsmen/history.html

The cool link to this GB, is that the ship was part of the US blockade against Cuba during the Missile crisis:

"Following commissioning Charles F. Adams took part in recovery operations for Walter M. Schirra's Mercury 8 mission. While engaged in this operation the Cuban Missile Crisis developed and Adams moved to the Caribbean Sea as part of the quarantine forces around the Island of Cuba."

The ship was decommisioned 1992 and remains at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on Donation Hold status. She is currently scheduled to be preserved by the Adams Class Veteran's Association in Jacksonville, Florida. For a donation or information, see here:

http://www.adamsclassddgvets.org/

And here she is:

I hope my meager skills can make her justice! Good luck to everyone! James

Well I've finished dinner and here are my first progress pics.

This is one very relaxing afternoons work and so far everything is turning out great.  I plan to use the kit tracks as I'll have the side skirts fitted on the final vehicle so you won’t actually see much of them.

This is one with the upper hull and turret posed just to get the "look" of the T-72.

Also tracking down the right color for this tank has been a pain but this is the look and finish I'm going for.

I must say there is not much to the kit itself so I've managed to finish the lower hull and road wheels in one afternoon.  I've got to go to dinner now but I'll try and take some pics and post them tonight.

Oh yeah, Townsy can you put me down for a 1/35 Tamiya T-72M1 as well the Fury Wink [;)]

I won't get to mine for a while, but I'm still excited that the GB is kicked off (tomorrow... I know!). At least I'll be abe to open the kit, smell the styrene and dream about how I hope it turns out.

Well The GB officially starts tommorrow! but unfortunately I won't be here to officially kick off the building because I usually don't have internet access on weekends. Everybody may start building tomorrow though.

Good Luck Everbody!

Yup! as dupes said, since you've finished your build for the Modern Armor GB you can collect your badge, but you will have to wait to get this one.
