Hi Gigatron,
Thanks, man! Glad to be aboard -- I've been really looking forward to doing this bird, I've had this kit in my stash since the late 90s or so and now I have an excuse to build it!
Dupes -- hi guy! Glad to see another treadhead over here with the winged things too! Yes indeed, it'll be most interesting. There's limited research data on the FAS Corsairs, plenty of mention of them in the literature but I've not found photographs yet. There's a fabulous colour profile of FAS-219 drawn from the opposite side to the box art, so between them I could spray a decent cammo job. The decals are a bit glossy so this may be a topcoat situation. The object is the colourscheme, obviously, but she should also be detailed as well as possible. I checked out the Quickboost engine for the Tamiya -1D and it looks superb, and at a price that won't break the bank. They also have a set of gear bay doors that look sweet. I've not found the Aires cockpit set yet, and the other engines I've seen so far have been a lot more expensive than I'm interested in spending to be barely-glimpsed through the cowling of a model which cost a lot less than the details!
Colours -- hard to pick but the references in the kit and online are giving me a fair steer. The tan shade is a yellowish ochre, it looks a lot darker and yellower than the recommended Sand, and the yellow of the ID bands is not a Signal shade. But what is certain is that the El Salvadorean planes were all finished in US FS-paints.
It'll be a change from tanks! And I'll get into some midnight blues further down the road...
Cheers,
