WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Harv, I really appreciate the nice comment.  Thanks too for alerting me to the pic trouble.  Am curious though...do the boxes still show up on your screen in my original post or are these pics in their place?

Thanks, Daywalker, for staying with me and for your nice comment.  This is my first plastic aircraft build in about 40 years and my first ever cockpit enhancement try.  I'm still picking up those little critters that flew off on there own though...Big Smile [:D] !

OK, Joes pics inspired me to show todays progress. Any comments welcome. The hose on the right is something I learned from the forum. Its a shaft seal spring. The are great for all kinds of things. Sofar I`m real happy with the pit sofar. Enjoy.........Harv

Nice work !!!

I am finishing my Me 109 and just got a Tamiya F4U-1D (1/48). Decided to get more than just one cosrsair Smile [:)].

It seems to be pretty nice kit (I do not expect anything less from tamiya Smile [:)]) and I plan to start working on my cockpit.

Tamiya suggests interiror color: yellow zinc chromate (at least it looks this way reading their color combination right). Was this color for all Corsairs (especially Mk II for Britts) ?????

Harv: Way to go on your build!! Looking GOOD Thumbs Up [tup].  I like the hose idea.

Gzt: You'll like the Tamiya kit as it's pretty nice in and of itself.  On interior colors..In the F4U Corsair detail and scale book (Squadron) I mentioned in an above post it mentions and shows in color photos that many Corsairs were painted with flat black fuselage interiors and side cockpit areas instead of the traditional overall yellow zinc chromate.  On page 37 the F4U-1D/FG-1D cockpit area shown has flat black fuselage sides, instrumanet panel, and both port and starboard control panels are painted overall in flat black.  Rest of cockpit interior including seat and framework, foot rests, and rudder pedals are yellow zinc chromate.  The control stick on this example also was painted flat black below the grip.  Most likely as the War progressed they were painted with whatever was on hand at the time or field painted later when repairs were made.

Darson -- Many thanks! The markings for this one are in the kit too, I'll be doing it in due course. I've wanted to do this one since seeing a profile in a mag back in the 80s!

Piperjoe -- both sets of photos show up in my browser (is that the sound of tearing hair I hear? Big Smile [:D] ) Excellent work, BTW, you have more patience and better eyesight than me!

Ok guys, need some info and cant find it anywhere. on the underside between the exaust, there are 3 small  round "openings" just behind the cowling. (you can see them in pic above post). Can anyone tell me what they are? Are they more exaust or what? Thanks............Harv

I was doing some research this mornig and ran across this info, I thought you all would be interested. The web site I got the info from is  www.philsaeronauticalstuff.com It states that these are pressure relief ports without the cover and 3 smaller screw off covers.  Great pit pics also. Hi there Chris, Fred aka Gigatron has left a message on page for new one for new builders saying that he can't check in every day and there is a good chance he'll miss your post asking to join the build.  If you send him a PM he'll make sure you get added.

Cheers

Yep! Was there (Beijing, Shanghai, Xian) last summer with the family, amazing experience. The squashed avatar pic was taken in the "tourist" section of the wall, north of Beijing.

And yes, I did pick up a few Lee and Trumpeter kits for 1-2$ USD each ;)

Cheers ,James

Hey Jmart, thats awsome you went there. I had a lucky experience and went to China to last year. (our family was adopting a new sister). We went to three towns in the southeren part. I looked for cheap kits there cause I expected them to be in Guangzhou but no luck. I did find an aircraft store, but it was all diecast.

HI, JMart!  Glad you were able to go and enjoy the sights in China.  I have always wanted to walk the entire length of the Great Wall (what's left of it) but alas...my feet are big enough...but my pockets are not..Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Whistling [:-^]

raptordriver, piperjoe - Yep it was a great experience, specially the kids, they go to see historical sighs and buy pearl earings for 3$ :)  The funny part about the Wall, once you walk/climb 3-4 miles of it (some of it VERY steep!), you have 3 ways of getting down from the highest point... walk back down another 3 miles, a fancy cablecar and......a free-sliding tobogan LOL. I took the tobogan down with my youngest, NO safety nets or harnesses, just zippy down as fast as you wanted.

..and dupes I hear you! problem is, many of the stuff is really toy-like, specially the mini hobby ones. I mean, not only were they motorized "a la old Tamiya" (holes, etc), the actual ENGINES are included lol.. again, great for practice and build with the kids...

..and now back to our regular Corsair programming.. cheers all!  James

Hi, JMart!  Man, 3 miles of free-sliding tobogan...WOOOOOHOOOO!! I'd have to try that for sure!

Besides, ...it would give me plenty of time to put down a couple of "lights" while the wife walked back... Whistling [:-^]
