DaywalkerIf I could by every plane I wanted from Tamiya, I would.  They go together so nice.  And with my limited experience, a good fitting kit with nice detail sure helps.

I knew it.  I was hoping someone would give me something to build on.  I guess I didn't look at enough pictures.  Thanks for the input, I'll remember it next corsair I do.  Of course, I could barely see what I was doing putting one in, not sure how I'll be able to do running two wires.  But also, I'm mainly an OOB builder, so these two engines I did this to are my classroom.  I have an AM 1/48 Helldiver to start soon, gonna try to improve with it.

Found this pic at the web site below.  I would have to go to 1/32 to try something like this.

http://www.kids.ct.gov/kids/cwp/view.asp?a=2731&q=330786

Why is the Nose of the F4U Corsair So Long?   The nose of the F4U Corsair was long to allow the use of the most powerful aircraft engine available at the time that the F4U was designed. This engine was the Pratt and Whitney R-2800, 18 cylinder, air-cooled, radial engine. The later engines developed over 2,400 maximum horse power. There was also a need to place an additional fuel tank between the engine and the cockpit. This made the nose even longer and made it difficult for pilots to  see in front of the plane during take-offs and landings. It was also the reason that one of the nick names for the aircraft was "Hog Nose." This type of engine uses pistons just like the engines in most cars, except that the engine is round. It is called a "reciprocating engine."

Looking really goodThumbs Up [tup]

I like the ignition cables. However, if you don't want them too shiny, maybe thin out some flat black and do a really gentle wash or dry brushing? I also really like the 'pit.

Jeff

Okay, I've finally got some work done now that I ditched the crappy revell kit and got a couple Tamiya's.  Did one from the Bunker Hill (not GB) and now I'm on my GB bird.  I started with the f4U-1D kit with the motor tug.  I'm doing mine as a Royal Navy FAA Corsair IV.  I'm looking for bu numbers to replicate from existing numbers and letters I have but it may end up just a representation of the type.  Going to clip the wings, 8 scale inches per side, and paint it the Dark Slate/Dark Sea Gray over Sky.  I couldn't find a reference for interior color so I took the liberty of doing it in British Interior Green, nice color in my opinion.  With both of my corsairs I have done a first for me, added the ignition cables, do they look okay?  I like them shiney but I'll probably paint them black.  So, here's some progress pics for you.

Darson PM inbound!Cool [8D]

I just have to say oops!

Made a scriber from an allen key just to cut...er... scribe away the flaps on my bird! Initial tests on different things, including aluminum/aluminium were very promising as it scribed away a nice curl of meterial on both plastic and soft metal!

Thanks Richie and FrankThumbs Up [tup]. Yes its the 48 monogram one that doesn't have very good fit. I still liked building it though. I don't know why, but the dark blue looks kinda bright in the picture and the canopy looks foggy. Again thanks.

Frank, good job on the progress. I'm doing the 3 tone camo scheme. The last Corsair I did (Only the second model I ever attempted) Was done in all blue so I'm trying to step up my game a little.

Very nice AndrewThumbs Up [tup]

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I can claim the same thing. I haven't even touched any of the landing gear, the canopy, or the prop so I have some work to do.

More progress. I just need to wait for this to dry and then mask off the areas where I will be spraying intermediate blue on the fuesalage, then I can call most of the painting done.

Thanks for looking

Harv- Glad to hear you found a solution to your problem!

I worked on the crankcases last night, adding some wire for the magnetos and some other details like oil lines, data plate, and drainplug.  A few strips and bits of styrene, wire, and some Tamiya tape.  I still have to add the ignition wires after painting but it's starting to look much busier.

Thanks Frank. The retract cylinder in the middle of strut, to me, is WAY out of purporsion(?). It seams huge to me. The link helps, but still not a clear shot. I was hoping some of yyou could show pics of your aircrafts legs installed to give me an idea........Harv

darth- Now THAT is one fine looking Corsair!  If that was your first time with an airbrush, you are seriously on your way to becoming a pro in no time at all.  I really like the look of your build, I would be proud to put that one in my display case.  Well done! Bow [bow]

And, thanks for the kind words!  I do hope you'll stick around for a bit.  Lots of fun to be had here yet! Big Smile [:D]
