Got the framework painted and washed. I'm quite happy with it. Sure beats the bareness that was there before. Here's a pic. Enjoy!

Richie- Man, that office has more detail than my 1/48! Shock [:O]  Seriously great work mate, can't wait to see it all painted up. Thumbs Up [tup]

I started painting the cockpit on mine this last week, but am having a little difficulty deciding on the colors for the early Birdcage Corsairs.  Think I may finally have it sorted out, and can hopefully continue soon.

Here's a pic of the office sides that I have added some cardstock framework. Will post another pic when painted.

Thanks Scott!Make a Toast [#toast] I will tackle 1/48 in the future. That's all I used to build. Have a few in the stash, just not the space to display.

I was afraid you were gonna say that!  How in the heck did you do that?  I struggle adding that kind of stuff to 1/48.  You must have the eyes of a hawk!  Excellent work Richie, truly inspirational!

I agree with Frank Richie, 1/48 is challenging enough for me.  Great work!

Thank you very much Frank, Harv, and Fred!!! Frank, it's 1/72!!! Yes Fred, I know. Once I do this kind of work it will be expected. Plus I don't think I could go back. Afterall, striving for miniature realism is the main drive of the modeler's art isn't it? Only on a OOB build would I not go to that extent, it sure would be hard not to though lol.

Jason, if that's an afternoon's worth of work, I'd like to see what you can do with a full day off Thumbs Up [tup]

Richie, lookin' good, buddy.  I hope you're prepared to go through all that work for each build from now on.  Once you start, you won't be able to go back.

Watching everyone's work...my "Birdcage" F4U-1 is screaming for me but I've got to finish my BOB GB first and I'm under the gun.  I've got only 25 more days to finish my Stuka.

yea the holes suck.  I wanted to fold the wings and I needed to cut those out but I was having so much trouble with getting the hinges on right that I decided to not fold them and I was left with the holes...

Sweet Corsair, Jacob! Another terrific piece of work in this prolific build!

I've been messing about with the Hobbycraft -1D and decided to see if the plastic would react favorably with cya. I assembled the wing last night:

Photobucket" border="0" />

The plastic likes cya, but the fit is nothing to write home about. Note the cutaways: for some perplexing reason HC molded the wing rads and gunbays separately. The fit of these parts is attrocious, the gunbay part I test-fit fell inside the wing instantly! The flaps are problematic, both the raised and lowered versions require surgery of one sort or another.

The TD resin cockpit that came in last week is useless -- more air bbbles than a milkshake. I've never had a TD set like this before, I'm surprised it passed quality control. This project seems to be fated, a sensible part of my is whispering "bin it, pay the extra and stick with Tamiya!"

Hi everyone,

Still on the road a lot with my job but I do have my Corsair done.  I just need time to take some pics for this GB.

Hope to drop back in soon.

Take care, all these builds look fantastic.

Looking forward to your build Mike!!!! Not often do you see Corsairs in foreign markings.

Just put the wires in the harness on my engine. Letting the glue cure overnight and will hook them up to the plugs(cylinders) 2mora. Right now it looks like a sea star urchin thingy.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hi all,

I ordered the Tami -1D today. She's coming surface from Hong Kong (a third the Aus shelf price, so I'm happy to wait), and the circumferential tread bulged tires/wheels by TD came in a few days back. Now I can line up the Eduard canpy masks and run some tests on the HC decals. If they're about as much use as the rest of the kit, I can create custom decals in the computer for the Salvadorean roundels. I have all the paints, I have Promodeller panel wash... I can rip into her when she gets here (45 to 70 days estimated transit time).

Hmmm, I might fiddle with the HC in the meantime, given that I picked up a TD cockpit from Squadron last week, which even has the -1D rocket control panel as an extra part. The forward instruments are disappointing, not what you expect from a resin set, but all told superior to the HC cockpit.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike- Yeah, it was a bit of a balancing act but it worked pretty well.  The extra-thick kit decals from Tamiya prolly helped on this one! Big Smile [:D]

Richie- Thank you very much!  Sorry I forgot to comment on the engine for your Corsair, it looks top shelf mate! Approve [^]

Can't quite visualise it... Punching the hole, right... With the tailplane end of the line free, you could ease the decal partially off the backing paper to reveal the hole, slip the line through it from the underside and draw all the way through, then apply the decal normally. You'd need a third hand to control the line as you were doing so...

Thanks Mike!  As for the decals, I puched a hole through the decals and clipped off the end of the knot to pass the thread through.  Then, I tied another small knot to replace the clipped off one. Thumbs Up [tup]
