Bummer about your Corsair, but I do feel your pain! Last year, I had the same thing happen to me. Botched the paint job and ended up ripping the model apart to save what I could. Luckily, I was able to salvage the cockpit and engine/prop, which I used on the bird currently underway.
As for the detail, the Tammy kit is good, though a little time spent with some wire and little bits will pay off. These are the photos I took last year while it was underway:

The belts are Eduard PE, everything else is box stock. HTH!
If you have never built the Tammy kit, you're in for a treat! If you are planning on building it with the wings extended, be careful aligning them. DrewH has a great tip for doing it, perhaps he'll share it with us here?
