Thanks, Frank.

What book is that from?  I want to see if I can find it locally and get a good look at that picture.

You're quite welcome Fred!  The book is called "The Time Capsule Fighter", and the Corsair featured in it is stripped down to it's original WWII era paintjob underneath.  A fascinating book with TONS of great photos.  I consider it a MUST for the Corsair enthusiast! Big Smile [:D]

Guys I am thinking of replacing the pretty basic hasegawa F4U-5N engine with one from quickboost but the closest match I can find is for the F4U-4B.  Just how close visually are the engines from the dash 4B and dash 5N Corsairs and could I get away with the "wrong" engine?

TIA

Darson, I have a QB engine for my -5 and the number is QB 72 100. Don't know exactly what model it is. Just says its for a -5 if that helps. Engines and things catalogue has specific models for different planes. A -32W is listed for the -5. Smile [:)]

Thanks for the info Ritchie but I should have stated in my post I'm looking for a 1/48 engine.

Also I've done a bit more research on the web and for my eyes the visual differences between the two engines are too great, so I'll stick to the one that Hasegawa supplies.

Cheers

Hey fellas,

Thought I'd show my progress, which has been slow.  However, she's coming together.  I never did quite work out all of my decal problems.   Plus, I broke her back.  The spine seem cracked from behind the pit to the vertical stabilizer.  I re-sealed it, and touched up the paint.  However, it's not going to be quite right.  Oh well, she's looking pretty good considering the problems.  I'm going to include a pic of my paint test scrap.  You can see the progression from too much flat to just right.

Semper Fi,

Chris

Great looking bird, Chris.  You should be very proud Thumbs Up [tup]

Progress on mine has been so slow, it's almost non-existent.  Between having to work weekends and the humidity not allowing me to paint, I've been forced to work on tiny little sub-assemblies that hopefully won't interfere with painting or assembly.

Thanks Harv, thanks Fred,

I'm calling her done.  She fought me at every turn.  The decals could have turned out better.  The spine cracked and had to be sealed and retouched.  There's even a crack in the canopy.  It's a very good kit, but I think I was off my game.   However, even with the problems, I think it turned out looking good.  It's not a show bird, but it'll look nice on my shelf.

Time to start cleaning the workbench.

Semper Fi,

Chris

Chris, my friend. I beg to differ with you. I think your build is defently SHOW worthy. Dont be too hard on your self. You had problems and still did very well. The fact you didn`t give up is high prayse enough. Thanks for the pics. Since you have time left, why dont you start another?.......Harv

I think it came out very well, Chris.  The tiny faults that bug you when you finish a model fade pretty quick and then you will see it as the rest of us do right now.  It's a great representation of a Korean War Corsair.

Thanks guys,

I'm glad you like it.  It looks particularly mean sitting on my shelf.

All my builds have little faults, there's no "Perfect Model" on my shelf.  I try not to sweat them too much, but I do like to be a little critical of my work.  It helps me improve.

Thank you all for you input and encouragement during this build.  That's what makes GB's cool.  I can't wait to see more progress shots and finished models from you guys.

Nice build, Chris!  That's one mean looking bird with all that armament.  Thumbs Up [tup]

All you folks are really doing the Corsair proud!

Here's a pic of mine for no reason at all except to show you guys that I'm still here.  Cool [8D]

There's another reason for the pics Ken, PROGRESS! That is very important, altough not as important as knowing your still here of course. She's looking great so far! The gear are looking fine from what I can see!Thumbs Up [tup]

Same here Chris!  Every one in my display case has it's share of errors, boo-boos, and the like.  I keep telling myself that I do it intentionally so that if they are ever stolen, I'll be able to identify them! Whistling [:-^]

Well, it makes me feel better about it. Wink [;)]

Seriously, it helps to motivate me to do better, and serves as a reminder to where I have been.  I can look at them and see the improvement on each one, and it makes me want to do even better next time. Thumbs Up [tup]

She came out great, Chris!  Despite any problems, she's a beautiful bird.

I was finally able to get some work done last night, after not being able to do anything for a few weeks.  I had to rip off the rocket mounts because Tamiya's instructions are as clear as mud.  Turns out the front pair were on backwards and I ended up destroying them in the removal process.  So I had to (poorly) scratchbuild them out of styrene.  I'm hoping they'll be hard to notice, once they're painted.

But now, I'm a few pieces of masking tape away from painting.  I just have to mask off the wheel bay openings and then it's paint time.

YES SIR... put everything aside this morning, did all my wifely chores and had some bench time. The 105 is put on hold once again(as usual) and did some more work on the time consuming pit.(my own fault for being a detail freak). No pics because not much to show, but at least I`m working on the corsair!!..........Harv      OH yea ....bump.....

Well, here she is, ready to spend some time in the paint shop

I haven't fully decided on a new paintjob or one that's been faded.  I really want to try a faded paintjob since seeing JWB's faded 21stC corsair.  But I'm hesitant as I really don't know if I could pull it off.

Ready to paint - right on Fred Thumbs Up [tup]

Weathering is easy - once you know what you want it to look like. Here's a weathering exercise for you then. Paint your Corsair and a scrap piece of plastic (like a 4"x8" evergreen sheet) in it's base color. Then when you are ready to weather it, try what you are thinking on the test piece first. If it looks good, do it on the model. If not, make any adjustments and try again. Do this for everything - washes, drybrushing, adding pigments, pastels whatever! You will get this - trust meeeeeee Angel [angel] (like there's words you want to hear me say - right Tongue [:P])

If you don't want to do that, run to the hobby shop and grab a $10 Acadamy 1/72 Corsair and practice on it Big Smile [:D] (I'm brutal I know Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid])

Take this plastic and model it!

Cheers,
