Here is the only two Corsairs that were at the model expo in Melbourne, Oz, plus a couple others.

The Corsairs were both 1/48, the Boomerang was 1/72, Phonix D.I 1/72 which deservingly placed first, and the Liberator and Mustang were both, get this, 1/144. Enjoy!!

Wow, thanks everyone Big Smile [:D].  I really appreciate the compliments - it really does make all the work worthwhile.

Harv, I didn't rescribe the lines, I just used some promodeller wash (both light and dark).  With the light color wash, I ended up doing two applications.  The first one was barely noticeable, but the second one really added a dimension of depth.

Fred, I have 3 colors of Promod washes. I havent tried the light ones yet. This will be a good test. One of the things I like about it is if you dont like it, simply wipe it off. Did you aply befor or after clear coat/furtur? I used it right after painting  my F105 with no probs...........Harv

I did it after the decals, so it must have been after the future.  I think I did a test area on the bottom before I put future on, but that really doesn't make much of a difference, does it Laugh [(-D]

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.  I'm almost there  - problem is, that stupid game called golf keeps getting in the way!  Whistling [:-^]  (I'm not a pro modeler, but the modeling is probably better than the golf.)  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Lookin' really good, Ken Thumbs Up [tup].  I really like the shade of blue you're using - which one is it?  I used MM Dark sea blue and it was a little darker than I would have liked.

Thanks, Fred.  The paint is rattle can Tamiya AS-8 (navy blue).

Can someone help me with some historical stuff involving the Corsair?  Joe Foss, marine ace and Congressional Medal of Honor winner started the South Dakota ANG unit back in 1946.  I was involved with that unit, both active and inactive duty, and as a full-time tech in the 50's and 60's, and remember listening to some of Joe's tales in our Ops Center.  (He was governor of South Dakota at the time.)  I know that Joe flew F4F-3s and F4F-4s with VMF-121, but I remember reading somewhere that he also was in VMF-124 for a short time, flying a Corsair.  I'd like to detail mine with his markings if I can determine what they were.  I've searched a lot of internet sites without much luck so far.  I'd appreciate any hints.

Thanks,

Ken

If he flew with VMF 124, I'd need an apx time Ken. The markings are out there, and you could just choose any aircraft the squadron flew during that time. They rotated them and rarly flew the same plane twice in a row.

Well, I got carried away again and ordered the placards for the pit and wont be here for a couple of weeks from Roll models(plus some other goodies for a  p38) so I cant finnish the pit. So I need to start on something else.....HUMMM, wheelwells? Cowling? Engine? Just soooo much to do. I`ll toss a coin...............Harv

Drew and Thuds - thanks.

I still can't find any reference to Foss in a Corsair with VMF-124.  So I'm going to bag that idea and later build a Wildcat with Joe's # 53.  Most of his combat time was at Henderson Field in '42 and '43 with F4Fs.

Thanks again,

Ken

No, we just managed to get it done.

Wink [;)] Laugh [(-D]

The GB seems to be split into 3 categories.  You got the people that got in, got it built and got out.  You've got the people that got in, take their time, build a piece, wait a month, build another piece, etc.. And then you've got the people that got in and then you never hear from them again.

It's like my P-61 GB.  All these people wanted in, nobody builds a blasted thing.

Ken,

 Here's something I dug up...   http://0000a22.previewcoxhosting.com/jfbio.html  ....

scroll about half way down, AC K99. One would get the impression taht is is the man in question that is flying it. Then the pic below that, can't tell if that is a Corsair cowling or now. Maybe there is a "rivet-counter" out that that might be able to tell.

That's all for the moment....still looking.

Make a Toast [#toast], Dave.

P.S. I am still in, want to make it good, just wrapped up Classic GB, in middle of Medium Bomber GB. Have spouse that complains that I have to many in the stash, but when I want to go work on'em, I get ..."What, You're not gonna hang out with me?".....or there's something on the "Honeydew" list....I fully intend on starting & completing this GB...I mean, come on...It's a CORSAIR! Have to.

"Yesterday is history, Tomorrow a mystery, but Today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present".

I just hope I dint end up in the LAST group!! Really though, I`ve put too much effort into this sofar and really proud with what little I have done to let it languish away. I did order some color seat belts today. The Eduard set I have are not color and I`m too lazy to try and paint and fold them up! But I hope to start up soon. It seems I have 3 major sub assem. I still need to even start so it will take time, my freind...........Harv

Dave, I`m no rivit counter, but the pic looks to be a P47 or maby a F6F. Do you know if he flew either? .......Harv
