Hey, I'm Jacob and I'm new to this build.  I'm building Testors' 1/72 F4U-1 Corsair.  Here it is:

As you can see here, It's pretty simple.  Not even a cockpit(just a tiny pilot figure), so I guess I'll scratchbuild that.

Thanks for the welcome back guys, now I think it's about time I dug out my long neglected F4U-5N and do some building.

Jacob, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the build, I'll be looking forward to checking out your dash 1 as it comes along.

Cheers

Nice job on the engine Harv I can't wait to see the finished product.

Ok now I have a question for the group.  The USMC F4U-5N that I am doing for this build is primarily a night fighter but I'm torn between bombing her up with rockets and napalm or leaving her in pure night fighter mode of just a drop tank.  Your thoughts?

I say do the rockets, but maybe I can find some pictures.  How 'bout an F4U-5NL, with snow on the wings on a carrier deck.  I know I have a magazine with that picture.

I like to stay away from the every day stuff. Normaly I`d say load the crap out of it. But for it to be a true NIGHT fighter, I`d say Wing tanks and guns. Steeking through the dark night, looking for an enemy aircraft that cant see you and gunning into the black ground below. Well...thats what I think..........Harv

I agree the rockets add some hate and discontent to the finished model.

We can't wait to see the -5NL.

Sorry Harv but it looks like you have been out vote, rockets and napalm it is. The load out from this fine looking model is what I plan to use on my bird and aside from looking Sierra Hotel I think the yellow Nape tank adds a splash of color to the model.

Progress tonight consisted of separating all of the True Details resin cockpit parts from their casting blocks which was no big deal at all compared to some resin sets I've used. Over the weekend I'll paint her up and post some pics.

More ordinance always trumps less ordinance. Wink [;)]

Sorry for the delay on pics for me, but the weather here has been highly uncooperative the past 10 days or so, extremely humid - doesn't seem like anything will dry out. Just worried about spraying paint in these conditions...don't want to screw up the finish. Soon, hopefully! Big Smile [:D]

Whoa hold on a sec guys that is not my model, in fact I don't even know who did it. I certainly am not trying to claim credit for another's work.

Sorry for the confusion but I was just trying to show the load out I am going to use, my Corsair is still in the early stages of construction.

Well lads I've been doing a little further research on the Flying Nightmares (VMF(N)-513 in Korea and managed to find a really cool image of the bird I'm modeling.

I can now safely do with a clear conscience a bombed up night fighter with no problems at all as the squadrons mission in 1950 was to provide CAS to Marines on the ground at night.

Also, I'm glad I found this shot as the Eagle Strike decals I'm using show black wheels, black landing gear legs and a medium grey radome cap Confused [%-)].

Richie, thank you my freind. That meens a lot coming from you!.Thanks for pushing me in the right direction, Richie. Glad you aprove(wow 3 thumbs up!!!!!!).It was a trying experiance, to say the least. I must have started 3 times and would rip them ofrf because they didn`t look "right". And then try again. I`m not real happy with the bits of foil I used for the 2 wire connectors. But it does look convincing enough, for me..........Harv

Looking good, Harv.  Just make sure you have it well mounted to the test stand when you light it off the first time, you may have the throttle rigged backwards!!

Also, step away from the magnifying glass at least once every 10 minutes when you do that wiring, otherwise you risk becoming permanently cross eyed.

One heck of a job, Harv Thumbs Up [tup].  I know it's one of those small details that noone ever notices, but it's something you'll be glad you did later on when you look at it.  Nothing worse than regretting something you can't fix.
