The Official F4U Corsair Group Build 4/01/08 - rolling end date

Looking forward to your build Mike!!!! Not often do you see Corsairs in foreign markings.

Just put the wires in the harness on my engine. Letting the glue cure overnight and will hook them up to the plugs(cylinders) 2mora. Right now it looks like a sea star urchin thingy.

Still on the road a lot with my job but I do have my Corsair done.  I just need time to take some pics for this GB.

Sweet Corsair, Jacob! Another terrific piece of work in this prolific build!

I've been messing about with the Hobbycraft -1D and decided to see if the plastic would react favorably with cya. I assembled the wing last night:

The plastic likes cya, but the fit is nothing to write home about. Note the cutaways: for some perplexing reason HC molded the wing rads and gunbays separately. The fit of these parts is attrocious, the gunbay part I test-fit fell inside the wing instantly! The flaps are problematic, both the raised and lowered versions require surgery of one sort or another.

The TD resin cockpit that came in last week is useless -- more air bbbles than a milkshake. I've never had a TD set like this before, I'm surprised it passed quality control. This project seems to be fated, a sensible part of my is whispering "bin it, pay the extra and stick with Tamiya!"

yea the holes suck.  I wanted to fold the wings and I needed to cut those out but I was having so much trouble with getting the hinges on right that I decided to not fold them and I was left with the holes...

I have finished the wiring on my engine finally. Still have to put the oil sump line on the bottom of the crankcase, other than that and scratch a prop governor it's almost there. Here's a pic fer ya. Enjoy! It's 2am here now and after this, I'm frazzled lol.

Jacob- Too bad about the holes in the wings!  Nice looking Corsair none-the-less.

Jason- Excellent work on the office, keep the WIP pics coming!

Richie- Outstanding job on that engine!  What scale is that again? 

Watching everyone's work...my "Birdcage" F4U-1 is screaming for me but I've got to finish my BOB GB first and I'm under the gun.  I've got only 25 more days to finish my Stuka.

Richie, lookin' good, buddy.  I hope you're prepared to go through all that work for each build from now on.  Once you start, you won't be able to go back.

I agree with Frank Richie, 1/48 is challenging enough for me.  Great work!

Here's a pic of the office sides that I have added some cardstock framework. Will post another pic when painted.

Richie- Man, that office has more detail than my 1/48!   Seriously great work mate, can't wait to see it all painted up.

I started painting the cockpit on mine this last week, but am having a little difficulty deciding on the colors for the early Birdcage Corsairs.  Think I may finally have it sorted out, and can hopefully continue soon.

Got the framework painted and washed. I'm quite happy with it. Sure beats the bareness that was there before. Here's a pic. Enjoy!

Harv, your that 1/32 only guy right ? PM me. OK I see some really nice completed Corsair's and some very fine ones under construction. So here I am the Chief Slacker reporting in with an update. First let me give you all some really good advice - Never remodel your Hobby room with uncompleted projects and spend the summer away from home. I cant tell you how hard it has been to refind everything.Enough talk I have spent the morning building PE pedals for the pit. I kinda wish I would of left the kit supplied one's on now. Back to the bench and try to  get caught up !

Harv- Glad to see you're still here!  How's the 1/32 bird coming along?

I tried something a little different on my -1 and -2 but am not happy with it, so I need to repaint the office and start over.  Very busy at work this week so it'll probably be the weekend before I toouch them again.  I hope to have WIP updates soon!
