Thanks Harv and Sean!  Feels good to finally have some color on her.

Sean, as for the color I used, it is Gunze Navy Blue (don't recall the stock number, but I'll find it when I get home).  As for the photo session as soon as she got home, she came home sick so went straight to bed. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Thanks fellas!  I gave her a few coats of Future this evening, and hope to add some decals later this week.  More to come! Thumbs Up [tup]

Chris- For the cockpit masking, I used dozens of tiny cut pieces of Tamiya yellow tape, followed by some larger pieces to fill in the center.  Tedious I know, but I like the way it turns out. Big Smile [:D]

Hey Gang,

Sorry I haven't been around much lately, life's been a real kick in the pants as of late.  Now, I'm going on vacation starting the middle of the week, so I won't be around for another week or so after tuesday.

Frank, that's a purty lookin' bird you've got goin.  Looks like you'll be finished any day now.

Joe, I hope eerything's ok - and I hope you know you're always welcome back whenever you're ready.

I hope I can get a few progress pics up over the next few days even though I haven't gotten a chance to do much.

Keep up the good work and keep the update pics comin'

Very Nice,

I like Blue Birds.

What'd you use to mask off the pit?

GZt, according to my Handy Dandy FS Paint chip chart- FS36118  is Maritime Upper Surfaces after 1939... SO I would believe it to be used for a variety of painting. MM most likely calls it Gunship Gray as that is most likely the common'st  usage. (yeah I am feeling creative with my own spelling today) You are most likely safe to use this color. Its not like there was a paint store around every corner.

I think those Corsair shouters must be a little Fume Loopy ....Whistling [:-^]

Its a good info ! Thanks. I like your creative english dictionary Smile [:)]

CORSAIR!!!

Big Smile [:D]

I sprayed my Corsair blue this evening, and she's sitting in the case drying right now.  After a day airdrying, I'll put her in my home-made drying oven for an hour or two to speed up the curing.  My girlfriend is home Sunday night with the camera, so I'll post a pic or two then!

So, do we have a BLUE CORSAIR?

LOL, yep-sure do! Big Smile [:D]

Dick-

Thanks for sharing that info.  I wasn't aware of the -1D's without the step.  Good to know, thank you! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Daywalker

Be careful about that starboard flap step cutout on the -1D.  This was apparently a late production feature. I have many photos of -1Ds without the cutout, plus several photos of -4s without it, too. I don't know if there was any overlap in their production at Vought. One possibility is that Vought switched production to the -4 while Goodyear was still building       FG-1Ds, and the step cutout came after that, with both versions picking it up. Or some may have been replacement flaps.

Does anybody have more info on this?

Greg,

A few other differences are antenna masts present or not, tailwheel length, fairing on tailwheel doors present or not, and step in starboard inner flap present on F4U-1D but not F4U-1A (need to fill in on -1A)

There may be some other differences as well, but I can't recall right now.  Someone may be able to point out some others.

As for the color question, I am at work so don't have my handy color chart available.  If someone else hasn't answered your question by the time I get home tonight, I'll take a look and post for you. Thumbs Up [tup]

I have F4U-1A and 1D (Tamiya 1/48) and I will build both.

Just looking into the sprues I did not see any diference other than:

- canopy

- armament mountings

Anyway,

I have a little problem.

The color specification asks for

Extra Dark Sea Grey (FS36118) -

however this FS # is a MM Gunship Gray not an Extra Dark Sea Grey.

Can anyone help me resolve this puzzle ???

Hi, JMart!  Man, 3 miles of free-sliding tobogan...WOOOOOHOOOO!! I'd have to try that for sure!

Besides, ...it would give me plenty of time to put down a couple of "lights" while the wife walked back... Whistling [:-^]

raptordriver, piperjoe - Yep it was a great experience, specially the kids, they go to see historical sighs and buy pearl earings for 3$ :)  The funny part about the Wall, once you walk/climb 3-4 miles of it (some of it VERY steep!), you have 3 ways of getting down from the highest point... walk back down another 3 miles, a fancy cablecar and......a free-sliding tobogan LOL. I took the tobogan down with my youngest, NO safety nets or harnesses, just zippy down as fast as you wanted.

..and dupes I hear you! problem is, many of the stuff is really toy-like, specially the mini hobby ones. I mean, not only were they motorized "a la old Tamiya" (holes, etc), the actual ENGINES are included lol.. again, great for practice and build with the kids...

..and now back to our regular Corsair programming.. cheers all!  James

HI, JMart!  Glad you were able to go and enjoy the sights in China.  I have always wanted to walk the entire length of the Great Wall (what's left of it) but alas...my feet are big enough...but my pockets are not..Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Whistling [:-^]
