Frank, I am glad you like it.  I have not liked this kit since the day I brought it home. The real reason this kit is in my possesion is I bought it to use the "pit" for a reference to detail a Top Flite  R/C Corsair I was building . Not that there is anything wrong with it - just not my cup of tea.

Your two projects are progressing right along,  Thumbs Up [tup] are you going to display them side by side  -one with wings up and the other down ? If I ever build another they would be 1/48 in that stance.

Well I did a little work on the corsair today ,YEA! I couldn`t do anything about missing raised pannel lines, but I did get the rivits back. I used a toothpick and thick CA and put small drops where they were originaly. I think it came out OK. We`ll see when I paint. Still have the wheelwells to do, then the flaps and I`ll be down hill, I hope........Harv

Anyone else out there building the Trump 1/32 Corsair ? Spent most of the morning making little hinges for the flaps & ailerons out of PE.  Sigh [sigh] But making the ammo boxes was a nice distraction.

Richie - The ammo boxes just may be the "Belle of the Ball" Laugh [(-D] I am actually pretty happy with the way they turned out.  I airbrushed the shells brass, could not find a color reference for the tips. But I remember seeing hundreds of 50 cal ammo hanging ona wall once and the tips were a dark bronze.  No color match for that - So I decided to be different  and used "Cheverolet Engine Red" . The thinned out black wash toned down the chevy red and gave me the color I really wanted.  Confused [%-)]

Drew & Harv - Thanks for the Push of Encouragement on this project.

Dupes- I just realized how opposite we are of each other

1 - You ride a Road~Bike  , Me a Mtn Bike

2 You Swear your going to finish your Corsair Someday , Me I swear at mine Every Day  until the Day I Finish it !  Laugh [(-D]

Did not work on the Corsair today, I built a Paint Shelf so I do not have to " Eeny Meeny Miney Moe" the boxes of Black lids.  Dunce [D)]

Good one Summit. Hehehhehe. Laugh [(-D]

I hate to tell you about your paint rack though...see how it's already almost full? You should have made it bigger. Ask me how I know. LOL! Back to the drawing board for paint rack number two! Angry [:(!]

dupes  Yeah I know, actually I plan on building a smaller one  just for acrylic paints. I have the Tamiya and Mr. Surfacer up there to fill empty space. But I really have not added much new colors for some time. The bottom shelf is my Luftwaffe colors and that is what I build the most of.

Back to the Corsair - I have finished building all of my Flaps and Airelons needing PE Hinges  Party [party]

Flap 2

I am getting excited now to see progress and the sprues getting less parts.  Did I mention this kit has/ had  350 some parts ? Just 100 of them was on the engine alone.

Flap 1 Where are those other guys hiding that was building the Trump 1/32 ?

There is some damn fine work going on here, guys!

Sorry I haven't been around much - work's been extra busy and the little free time I have, I've been trying to work on another kit.

Sean, I don't envy you with all those PE parts.  I've been working with PE for 2 years and I hate it just as much today as I did the first time I used it Laugh [(-D]

Keep it up, gang Thumbs Up [tup]

Sean- Looking good there!  I have heard terrible things about those PE flap hinge brackets and wire hinges.  You make it look easy! Thumbs Up [tup]

Fred- Sorry you haven't been able to build lately, but we'll leave the light on for ya. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I managed to finish assembling the leading edge intakes, and rescribed the lost details on them.  Glued the wings on today, hoping to finish blending them in tomorrow.

Thanks Harv!  One of the more PITA tasks on the Tamiya Corsair IMHO. Sigh [sigh]  That and the flaps.  But, I gotta admit- it just wouldn't look right w/o all of that stuff hanging off of it.

Frank - The wire pins were a breeze, getting the hinges glued in place instead of my fingertips was the challenge Laugh [(-D] Looks like we are making the same progress, I got my wing section married to the fuse. What a nice fit Thumbs Up [tup] Looks like I need to get out the soldering iron to heat and reshape the exhaust pipes just a little bit...Censored [censored]

Hi all,

I've not forgotten this build! My Tamiya -1D was in yesterday's post (packaging totally crushed as most kits mailed out of China seem to be, but the contents perfect). I can begin work on Salvadorean FAS-219 in the near future.

The kit has rocket stubs but no ordnance -- do I remember correctly, True Details have the correct 5" HVAR's to match these stubs???

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Sean and Frank, NICE work to both of you!!!!Thumbs Up [tup] Thought I was going to get to the bench 2nite but other things have come up.Sigh [sigh] Hopefully this weekend I might make it the 1.5m from here to my bench and set there long enough for progress.Sigh [sigh] Gotta put those PE intakes in and glue it up. Then she's in for surgery on the flaps, and elevators.

Thanks Richie for thumbs up !  Just to let you guys know that this kit has not had its share of ejector pin marks - Take a look at the struts, first I thought maybe they were lightning holes Laugh [(-D]

Struts Next time around they will be filled and built. I was half tempted to manufacture new ones out of brass tubing I have on hand.

Yep, that's pretty bad. Not just the fact that they are there, but how many there are on such small parts! GEEZ!

Yea, they are nasty Sean. Scale aircraft conversions make a white metal set for that kit. I got mine and they are really nice. I think SprueBrothers has them.

Had to go to page two to find this thread! Shock [:O]

Drew- Looking forward to seeing yours come together, Mr. Corsair Guy! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Diophantus- Looks like you are well on your way!  DO you have any larger pics per chance?  Those are a little difficult to see much in.

Spent a lot of today in the shop working on my builds.  For all of the work I put in on these, the photos don't really show much.  Made fourteen attempts to carve one wayward panel line on the night fighter, and ended up filling and smoothing it and repeating on the other side which was done perfectly THE FIRST TIME!  The other model went relatively smoothly there.  Oh, well- no one will probably notice except me.

I also did a little painting on the engines, and they are shaping up nicely.  Five different shades on the cylinders, and they are beginning to look like I want them.  Still need a wash and some more drybrushing, but they are looking better.  Then, the plug wires!  That ought to busy them up a bit.  Well, not a lot to show but the airframes are (finally) ready for the outer wing panels, and the engine is in the paintshop.  More to come! Big Smile [:D]

Hi Daywalker,

Good to see your production line moving along!

I got a start on my Tamiya -1D today, masking for the first round of pre-assembly painting, I'm hoping to shoot the green tomorrow. I did some minor assembly on the cockpit, the rearward four parts that can all go into IG as one. I'll spray the forward cockpit unit individually and take a shot at some dirt on those slats, though not too much as the aircraft I'm building had been overhauled quite recently (I think, I'll have to verify that). I know for certain the camo was very fresh, perhaps between about two and about six weeks old, and as the plane went down on the third of four days of action (July 17th 1969) she didn't have time to fade or generally wear. Chips and dust, yes, and carbon staining, the FAS planes were flown hard, but the paint was barely dry before they were in combat. All the same, the paint was said to be of poor quality, so it may have failed quickly.

It's a fairly complex kit, not a difficult one but there are things to think about, orders to do things. She should be a delight to build.

One thing I'm curious about. I was going to use the open cooling vanes to depict her on the ground between sorties, after re-arming. The area behind the engine mounting plate will be just visible. Are those exhaust pipes molded on the back? Should the section be painted black for a dark recess or should the pipes be a burnt-metal shade, like the external outlet stubs? This is one of the details that would never occur to you before you actually see the parts!

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Lil bit of progress this wee hours am after work. Got the PE grills in the wing roots and top halves of the wings on my corsair put together. Letting it cure till when I get home in the morning. Then mount to the fuse and start surgery on the flaps. When flaps are off then I will tackle the fuse to wing joint and tidy that up.
