Harv, they are showing on my screen and showed up in the preview.  I checked and they even opened up OK.  Does anyone else have a problem seeing the pics or have an idea why Harv isn't seeing them?

Here is a bit of what I have been working on with the Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1D.  The extra cockpit pieces are made from scratch with .010 styrene disks punched via sharpened brass tubing; 1/16" and 1/8" diameter.  Also used tiny pieces of brass rod, small solder, wire insulation and even a bag staple from the Tamiya plastic kit bags!  All together there are 10 additions to the kit piece plus tiny glue "knobs". These parts are SMALL!  That elevator trim wheel with the solder surround was made with 5 separate items and the original molded detail has been sanded down and pin drilled to accept the new wheel..quite a learning process but I'm quite happy with it for a first time effort Smile [:)]

Sorry about that T'Bolt it completely slipped my mind.

I had a scrounge through my references and this is all I could on the San Salvador FG-1Ds.  It's an FAS FG-1D awaiting delivery to San Salvador in 1958.

Hi all,

Looks like it's gonna be the Quickboost engine and bay doors to dress up the Hobbycraft COIN bird, plus TF wheels. Google isn't finding the Aires cockpit set for the -1D, anybody know if it's out of production??? Anybody else make a pit for a -1D?

Darson -- any luck with that pic??? No pressure, guy, but it would be great to see!

Happy building,

TB379

I'm the king of bad influences.

Progress has been slow for me.  I joined the fuselage halves and did the appropriate sanding.  The fit is great, it didn't need much sanding.

Nice looking progress Harv, keep the pics coming.

Well after Tossing and turing over this for a couple of weeks now I finally went out and order the True Details cockpit for my bird.  I can officially blame Chris for this because his cockpit looked so good compared to the one Hase supplies with the kit.

Cheers

Thanks Scott. Now I have to decide if I want to spend the cash for them...Dont need much else, so the shipping may not be worth just ordering the legs...........Harv

Hi,

Just checking in since I work a lot and don't get a lot of bench time.  Harv, I need to make a correction to one of my last replies.  The landing gear I got are not from AIRIES but from Scale Aircraft Conversions.

There are some great builds going on here from all of you, I can't wait to see them completed.

Scott

Scott, thanks for clearing that up. That explanes a lot. Are they 1/32? Are the Revell that bad? Do I need to order more stuff??

Fred, excelent work so far. Keep it up, my friend.............Harv

Harv, The landing gear is 1/32.  The Revell kit I built had really soft plastic and did have a lot of problems with them.  The metal gear will help a lot.

Great progress there Harv! Thumbs Up [tup]

I am just about ready to start painting, just have to fix a couple of seams tonight and a little more masking.  Hopefully, I can spray some dark blue tomorrow or the next day! Big Smile [:D]

Don't worry about it, SAR.  With any luck, this will be the most informative thread on Corsairs.

The new announcement is just so people know that I don't always cath every post, so if I miss them asking to join, it's not a personal thing.

Hi Gigatron,

Thanks, man! Glad to be aboard -- I've been really looking forward to doing this bird, I've had this kit in my stash since the late 90s or so and now I have an excuse to build it!

Dupes -- hi guy! Glad to see another treadhead over here with the winged things too! Yes indeed, it'll be most interesting. There's limited research data on the FAS Corsairs, plenty of mention of them in the literature but I've not found photographs yet. There's a fabulous colour profile of FAS-219 drawn from the opposite side to the box art, so between them I could spray a decent cammo job. The decals are a bit glossy so this may be a topcoat situation. The object is the colourscheme, obviously, but she should also be detailed as well as possible. I checked out the Quickboost engine for the Tamiya -1D and it looks superb, and at a price that won't break the bank. They also have a set of gear bay doors that look sweet. I've not found the Aires cockpit set yet, and the other engines I've seen so far have been a lot more expensive than I'm interested in spending to be barely-glimpsed through the cowling of a model which cost a lot less than the details!

Colours -- hard to pick but the references in the kit and online are giving me a fair steer. The tan shade is a yellowish ochre, it looks a lot darker and yellower than the recommended Sand, and the yellow of the ID bands is not a Signal shade. But what is certain is that the El Salvadorean planes were all finished in US FS-paints.

It'll be a change from tanks! And I'll get into some midnight blues further down the road...

Cheers,

TB379

Acording to Squqdron  #145 F4UCorsair in action - "The instrument panel was very similar to a standard F4U-4 cockpit layout with all the dials and gauges in English"

I could check all my other refrence books for photos but it would be a few days before I could post them as I am working off a stripped down PC.

Gigatron,

Does it count if the kit was started back in '88 and has suffered battle damage (kids & wife)?

Wow, 4 pages of progress since I last checked in ! Me still waiting for carpet- Wednesday I hope. Although with the price of Fuel now I think I would be better off riding my Mtn Bike to Colorado.. Least that would Burn the winter cookie stash off Wink [;)]

Fred, looks like your build is coming along really nice, I would say she is the "Belle of the Ball"      Chris, your pit looks great. Your most likely too far along to use a color reference pic by now. If you still need one PM me your email and I will send . I wont post it due to copyright blah blah....
Drew, Great tip on the wing panels.... Got too say I'm Glad I listened to your advice and bought the BUG... Otherwise I would of went Daffy trying to bend my pit details with tweezers and other primitive methods.                                                                                          Joe, Did you ever get any of those little Disk to land in your Pit where you wanted them too ?

Dupes, Have you started your Corsair or are you too busy  Herding those BIg Cats ?  Hey I oficially joined the Ranks last week of "My Bike is Worth More Then My Car" I feel like I should of least gotten a Bumper Sticker.

Harv, Nice pit - and that new engine WOW but I really think you should use the old one for a Cookie Cutter.

Frank, Glad to see your keeping these guys in line since your without a camera......

And lots of New Guys joining up, What a Great Build this is.....

Hmmm...

Can't tell which is the resin and which is the kit version.

Oh wait!  Now I see.  The shape of the crankcase gives it away. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Seriously, what a difference!  I used one of those Quickboost engines for my 1/48 AM Dauntless.  What a HUGE difference it made! Shock [:O]

Fred and Harv-

Excellent work fellas!  Looks like you guys are off and running. Thumbs Up [tup]

I am finishing up the seams and checking them over today, and hope to start painting the blue tomorrow.  As I said, I don't have my camera this week so won't be able to post pics for another week.  But, she's not much to look at besides a gray styrene plane with some masks over the cockpit.  I'm really getting excited to start painting! Big Smile [:D]

This is as far as I`ve gotten on the pit. Verlinden  with Eduards seat. I`m gonna try and use the Eduard dash also, plus other little detail pieces. There isnt much with the Eduards set for the Revell. But what is there will add a lot of detail..........Harv
