A Question

I'm adding the ignition wires to the engine

What's the easiest  way of....

a)working out the correct length????

b)attaching to the plastic parts ..super glue??????

this in all probability will be the first of many DUMB(sic) questions

Thanks Guys

On a funnier note, I still have room in my stash pile to hold some of your "boxes" for you . More than happy to hold on to them for you!.............Harv

Robert, I know what your saying.Although I realy dont do "what ifs" ( well, I do have a FW190 in the stash) I do tend to do aircraft of the lesser known markings. You know, the ones that people never build as far as pilots and decals. I do popular aircraft that where flown by the lesser known squadrens or pilots The "flip side" if you will...........Harv

Good point fred, thats why almost all of my builds are things that never existed in that form (but did come close), for example my El Salvadorian F2G, and my Corsair V. I thought would be cool "What If" Corsairs, and if in the end it looks good and i can say "nobody else has one like this one" than i'm happy. i'll bet alot of you out there think the same way about some of your builds

Thanks for the kind offer JMART.  After going through some FSM mags and re-reading the acrylic information I think I'll go with the Tamiya brand...most of what I have on hand is Tamiya and it's probably best to not mix formulas.  Thanks again for the very nice thought. Make a Toast [#toast]

Fred:  I use a Poyester Glazing Putty by Evercoat called Euro-Soft.  It's a two part, easy to mix formula found in auto body supply stores.  Comes in a green/teal 32 oz. can with a number 100408 on it.  Dries chemically so no shrinkage to contend with and sands/feathers to a smooth finish.  You can mix a small batch as you need it and after about 30 min. to dry it's good to sand.  Read about this in many of Pat Coverts Scale Auto magazine build articles.  A bit pricey but VERY good stuff and the can will last a long time.  Stir it up good, apply a dallop to a small paper plate, dip a flat toothpick into the catalyst (less for a long dry time, more for a hot dry time), mix them up 'till the mixture is a light green color and apply.  I've used this on some really small areas as well as large spots and it's smooth as a baby's Shock [:O] when finished.  Hope this helps.

Don't mention it, chris Smile [:)].  The entire reason behind the group build is to inspire others to try new things.

Mark, I say do what you know is going to give the best results.  If you do something that won't make you completely happy, you're just going to regret it every time you look at that build.  Nothing worse than looking at a build that is only 99% perfect (in your eyes).

On another note, I'm getting mixed results with the mr. surfacer 500.  It sands ok, but after sanding, I find there are areas where it sank in or didn't really fill.  I would've thought something that is that pasty would fill the seams a bit better.

And on another, other note, I can't believe this hasegawa kit actually has raised panel lines - what a pain in the rear.  I'm going to sand the dang things off and spend the next 5 years rescribing the kit Banged Head [banghead]

So, I'm starting on the Cockpit for my Tamiya "birdcage" and while it's very detailed and good looking, I've reached a crossroads concerning the control panel.  Do I spend the money on a PE control panel in which I usually sandwich the decal between the plastic and the PE part or just place the decal on the control board and call it done.  My sandwich techniques usually turns out real well but anybody have any luck doing it other ways?

Daywalker and Joe. I know exactly what you mean. The "friends" we have on this forum are of a special lot. We can joke and poke fun at each other. We can teach each other. We laugh together. And at times we are a shoulder to cry on. A special friend who knows how you hurt and ones to let you know you`ll make it through. I know first hand of this bond. About 2 months ago, I had a minor heart attac, and was away from the forum

for about a week. When I finnaly got back on, I informed all why I was gone(not that any noticed I think) The next several days I was inendated with post after post of well wishers and happy returns. My wife and myself were AMAZED at the response I got. It made me feel GREAT! Total strangers that knew how I felt and knew what I needed to hear. I will always have a soft spot for my friends that I`ve come to know and admire here.

Sorry to rant on, I just wanted all of you to know what this forum means to me.    Now lets model!!!!!!...........Harv

Joe I have never used acrylics before , my only observation was when I worked PT at a Hobby Shop the Tamiya outsold the Model Master.

Thank you Daywalker.  Just think about this:  awhile ago I didn't even really know about this forum, then read about it in FSM, then looked, then joined, then noticed this Corsair build pop up when Fred inquired if there was any interest, got into it, and...things fell apart in a big way.  But you know what?  This forum/GB modelers and Sean taking an interest really came about at the right time to keep me from.....the trigger...  One should never take these friendships for granted because you never know when you might really matter to someone you haven't even met.

piperjoe- That's awful news!  My heart goes out to you my friend.  Glad to see they were able to convince you to stick around. Thumbs Up [tup]  I also like your work area, very we-stocked and nicely organized.  Wish MINE looked that good. Blush [:I]

gigatron- You are obviously a masochist to torture yourself like that! Dead [xx(]Big Smile [:D]

As for hand-brushing Tamiya acrylics, some work better than others but be careful touching them after they are dry.  They really do like to roll-up.  Just my My 2 cents [2c], but the Vallejo acrylics are hard to beat for hand-painting! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey, Fred, you're right on that masking issue.  Glad to see it worked for you.  It'll be a learning experience that's for sure.  Thoughts on Tamiya Acrylics vs Model Master Acryl?  There's a $1.00 difference per jar as I look at the prices of recent purchases with Tamiya being the less expensive.  Just wondering what you get for the difference in Model Master paints?

Was thinking (..oh, brother..) about cleaning the small parts, washing same, using Tamiya White Fine Surface Primer (sprayed lightly) and then using the dry brush technique to keep what small detail there is showing.  Would pick out details with appropriate color and then add a light wash with maybe a little pastel dust to bring it all together.  First time for this so I'm searching here.

Hey joe,

I completely handbrushed my 1/48 pit and I used tamiya acrylics.  I decided to do it that way because of all the different colors involved.  Since the walls and seat are green, the console panels black and the floor is wood with green metal parts, the masking alone would have been a headache.

Brush on a layer of primer and let it dry.  When it's dry, dip a brush in tamiya thinner and wipe it off.  Then dip it in the paint and paint away, cleaning the brush occassionally.  remember to allow coats to dry before giving them additional coats, otherwise you end up with roll-up (a notorious problem with tamiya).

Joe, why didn`t I think of that? It would look HUGE!. I use acrylics  for eveything. Usualy MM. But I find it might be a little thin for brushing. I have done it but  "RESULTS MAY VARREY".And I realy dont know how to thicken it. Anyone else have a sugestion?.........Harv

Harv, when I mentioned that 1:48 tug I was thinking of you hooking it up to your 1:32 Wink [;)], and that would make you look like you had built THE BIG GUN of the group Big Smile [:D] !

Question: First time using this Tamiya Acrylic paint.  Can this be dry-brushed onto the small cockpit and engine parts rather than airbrushing?  Seems like a lot of airbrush cleaning for what little paint is being used.  Not as bad as 1:72 but bad enough...

No Glueing last night, but killed off an airbrush bottle full of Zinc Chromate and primed gray the engine.  Not a lot of detail, but this "toy" kit does put my old Revell kit to shame on the interior.

Will start photographing this weekend.

Hey Joe, glad to see you're back in business.  Now aren't you glad I didn't listen to you and take you off the list Wink [;)]?

FWIW, I'm doing one wing up, one down but with gun and ammo bays open.  Why, because I have deep seated hatred of myself - why else would I torture myself like that? Laugh [(-D]
