stick man:  Not bad on the Zim'...I suggest smaller, or even no space, between the rows though and a more consistent size...

dupes - yes, i know what you mean about the photo, its hard to tell where the tank starts and the background ends. Very well comoflaged. I was in a rush to get some pics up, but thats no excuse. Have already thought about that when i do my 251 pics.

The engine compartment and the turret box are both by Verlinden. The pipe work in the engine compartment doesn't fir very well when the engine is in, but the rear part of the decks covers that. When i do the dio i will get some pics of it.

SMJ - I used some string for the cables as thats all i had at hand, but yes, they are to thick.I do have a Dio planned. But as i am in the 251 build, but then am off to Afghanistan at the end of Oct, i knew i wouldn't have time to get that finished for the GB. So rather than have a part done dio, thats going to be done next year when i get back and the 251 is complete. For now the Tiger is in storage. I am going to re-do the tow cables and touch up the weathering then so it matches the dio.

Oh, I'm making a late Tiger so at least I don't have to worry about rubber weels but before I paint the weels I need to worry about building the tank.

The mud buildup would occur most frequently in between the teeth, with the raised parts being worn bare. Smile [:)]

I used Tamiya Dark yellow, and Poly Scale Panzer Red Brown.

About the mud, I didn't think about where the mud would be. It didn't hit me until I started painting it.Dead [xx(]

I always hear the term pin wash. What is it and how does it work?

Pin washes, at least the way I do them, is a more concentrated mix with the oil paints.  I usually use raw umber and/or burnt umber for rust.  It helps acceuntuate bolts, rivets, welded on grab bars etc...

Just saw the final product pic's, she came out really nice!Thumbs Up [tup]  I mentioned the camo' before but I wanted to commend you again on how good that looks!  A couple suggestions if I may: before those washes dry (on the vertical surfaces), use a flat brush slightly dampened with mineral spirits, using a downward motion, "pull" the oils creating streaks..it adds realism.  The tow cables have a bit to much wash on them, IMO...go for a bit cleaner look with a touch of rust (similar to tracks).  Lastly, I think the tracks need some more mud beween the cleats.

Nice King Tiger, glad you got it completed, and I hope you enjoyed this GB...go grab that badge sir!

bish:  superb attention to detail, I like all the open hatches!..the ones for the storage boxes behind the turret are especially well done.  Some thoughts/suggestions: The tow cables are a bit too thick, what did you use for those?  I think someone mentioned it already, but IMO the road wheels are a bit too clean. I can quite explain it, and I think this is a fine build, but it feels a bit "busy"...alomst like too much happening...I think it needs a dio' for context...maybe that's it...hmmm.  Go grab the badge, and thanks for being part of this GB!!!

Sigh [sigh]  You and me both my friend.  I just haven't had much time on my workbench.  Although I have assembled and installed the 4 piece from headlamp with blackout cover.  I've also put together the 6 tiny pieces of photo etch to replicate the flexible chain for the gun travel lock.  That was not easy.... LOL  That small assembly will replace the plastic chain that has already been removed from the travel lock.  I'll post some update pictures when I have a little more "meat" to post.  Whistling [:-^]

Bish - very cool Tiger. Lots of good detail in there, but I'm with Moose favoring the solid background - it's hard to pick out a lot of things. Just throwing a piece of poster paper on your workbench would make a huuuuuge difference! Man, you went all out there - that engine compartment is pretty awesome! Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Scott: The Panther is looking good, I know you said you are going to do an 11pz. Panther. What kind of camo did they have? dark yellow (obviously) red brown/green or just green or just red brown, that kind of stuff. 11pz. is for some reason a big interest for me so I plan on doing a Panther from them sometime.

Thanks Specter, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you on this.  The one's I'm looking at are green and yellow, with broad stripes.  I really like how they look.  Cool [8D]

The only pic I have found of 506 KT was of tank #103 I believe. It was knocked out in the Ardennes. Its numbers were like those on my model. My thinking was that all of the 1st company KTs would have had similar numbering. The Dragon paniting and decal instructions also supported my thoughts. But, I have no hard proof of this, only logical thinking.

Erik

EDIT: Here is the pic I used.

Thanks for the compliments Bish. I used Model Master Panzer Olivgrun. As for the turret numbers I used pics from the 506th section in Tigers in Combat I.

Very nice job.

Unfortunatly, the call of the 251 GB swiftly followed by her majesty is why its going to have to wait.

Thanks for your comments.

Ye, thats what i am planning. I was going to do a kubel so i got the Tamiya Kubel maintenance set. But as the Tamiya Schimm has markings for the 101. s SS Pz Abt and theirs a Schimm in the photo with Tiger 131, i'm going to do that. But unfortunatly that will have to wait till next year.

stick man The spare links on the front have been painted dark yellow to match the cam. I think they could be dirtyier though.
