Battle of Britain GB 2008 - 21 June to 31 Oct 08

Hi guys,

Just to officially prove I am working on something for this GB, here's a shot of me scribing the Flying Pencil's wing:

I'm getting there, a bit at a time. It makes me actually consider rescibing the Monogram B-58, just a few lines at a time, but eventually the whole beast would have been changed over. That's a project for the future.

Still watching my mailbox for that Emil to arrive. The package also has a rare floatplane for the seaplanes GB, which I hope I might have time to consider in the next six months...

Frank, that is gorgeous. Seriously gorgeous mate. I love it, and, in the immortal words of Manstein, want to marry it. I too built schroeders 109 and agree about the Tamiya 109's. Excellent.

 Youve done yourself proud big boy and set the bar even higher still for us mortals.

P.s TB that is some quality scribing there. Are you sure you havent just poached that pic from a 'How to' publication LOL

Hi Lufty -- glad you like the scribing! One line left to go on the starboard wing underside as I type this. Then the port fuselage half and all the nacelle bits. It's a skill that comes up on you unawares, I rally hated scribing until this project, really, but this one's rolling along. It makes me want to dig out a classic 1:72 Hasa F-4EJ I started reworking and see how far I can bring it along.

For the Dornier, I think I'll stretch the rules a touch and bring up the lustre of the paint with some clear gloss additive to better take both the decals and a panel wash. This should be an interesting beast when she's finished!

Greetings from the Nats guys. I love all the great work you guys are doing and I cant wait to get back to the bench. Going home tomorrow. I am having a great time here and spending way too much money. Loads of kits,decals and aftermarket stuff. Even got some BOB stuff, the Tamiya 109e. Going to do the contest hall today and I will take a lot of pics for insperation. Keep up the good work and will be looking forward to the progress.

ICM has released a new mold 1/72 Do 215 wth a Do 17Z-2 promised in the future.  It looks like a nice kit, the interior is beautiful, but I understand the 215 has some fit issues.  Should be a quantum leap over the old Frog and Monogram kits though.  I've got the Finnish markings all set for when they release it.

It will always be the most modelled plane in my cabinet. I look at them and think...I have a Desert 'E' a late war 'G' a BoB 'E'...and then you start thinking...ooh I havent got a desert 'F' in those colours etc etc... I could quite easily build 109's for the rest of my modelling life LOL. Sad i know..

p.s My 410 is coming along swimmingly, but keep that under your hat.

Considering the rate I build at and since I've got over 100 109's in the stash I could probably do 109's exclusively too, but man does not live by Messerschmitt alone...

Frank, that is a truly stunning build!

Your finish is amazing, it looks absolutely spot on.

I always use a couple of paint pots, one under each wing tip for taking pics of the underside.

Aaron, I was going to go with Tuck's machine, but having had another look at the Aeromaster sheet, think I'll go with E.J.Gracie's machine instead, again no roundels on the lower surfaces.

Guy, you can never have too many 109s, or my personal preference 190s.

Not a lot of progress on the Hurricane, but the stabs are on, and I should have the pit painted by tomorrow.

BTW has anyone else used Tamiya Extra Thin Cement? I picked up some last week, this stuff is really good.

109's...190's, i got 100's myself. Im number dislexic, they all look the same as me

as for Tamiya extra thin. Its all i use nowadays. Absolutely brilliant stuff. No more filler in seams for me. Better than ambriod proweld, and thats a tenax copy, IMHO.

To many 109's? Well I have to confess I have but one 1/48 scale 109 in my display case some how? I do have two 1/72 scale birds in there though. A E-7 jabo and an          F-2 in desert paint. Although i do have 13 unbuild kits of 109's of all kids in my stash including three Classic Airframes A models[I felt the need to build all the different versions of the kit!] and a 1/24 Aifix E model with one 1/32 Promodeller F. Is that enough to be in the 109 nut club?

Sounds to me like your '109 stash is quite well stocked!  Certainly well enough to be considered a '109 phile.

I guess I 'll share, I have none! I just built up my last one.

I just counted mine, I finished one yesterday so that brings me down to 16.  Guess I had better get another!

Mike -- thanks for the link, the ICM Do 215 looks pretty good. I'll be in that! And I'll line up the Finnish markings for the 17 Z-2 too. She's an interesting type and not too prolonged a build.

Hmmm, as for how many 109s in my stash... I count only 12, off hand. And about the same in FW 190s. That doesn't count yet, does it?

I've started assembly with the horizontal tail, adding the undersides to it, the good news is the Matchbox plastic reacts very well with Testor liquid cement. I'm scribing a second nacelle half, and will assemble that next. There's also nothing to stop me getting the wing together.

You know whats bad? is I just got a big box delivered today. No 109's can ya believe it? 3 tanks, The new   Trumpeter SdKfz 7 the Tamiya Blitz and a Hellcat and Gladiator. I am so ashamed I got no 109's today. The E-3 arrived A few days ago with the Goose.

 Listening to the amounts of 109's here though is incredible! Did the Luftwaffe have that many? Thought Mess only made like 33,000 of them.

Hey all, I recieved a fab book today on the He-111.

 From the outset to the final version with loads of great pics. Talking of which heres one for anyone thinking that they may have weathered thier 111 too much LOL.

I need to build some more 109s, I've only got 5.

That and 4 190s, and 2 262s!

Thanks Andrew! I have to more yet to complete. I just got the news today my decals are on the way for my fabric winged Hurricane. I should have my Airfix MkI on Monday. I plan on doing that one in Douglas Bader's markings which I have already sitting on the bench waiting for the kit.

Mabye if we all build enough 109's we can reach the real production numbers of over 33,000 units!

I've got my G-10 in the paint shop right now.

Hmmmm... only 3 109's in my stash (including the one I'm working on), one 190 and one 163.  The sad part is there is only one 109 on the shelf too (an E7).  I better stock up before all you guys buy out everything.

SC- LOL!  I am also putting the finishing touches on my 1/48 Fokker E.V for my Knights of the Sky GB. 

For the G-10, it's been coming along slowly but surely in between GBs.  I'm on a roll now!

With all that stuff on the bench there is no way you get ever get a 190 done for the Fw 190 GB.

That clinking sound is the gauntlet hitting the floor....
