Red Storm on the Reich GB - Sept. 8, 2008 - May 9, 2009

I have made a start. Got the primer on my Calibri 1:72 Gaz-67B and made a good start on assembling the 1:72 Italeri JS-2. All I am waiting for is some cobblestone road from Jadar. I goofed and got it sent via surface.

Ernest.... A January start???   I shudder at the thought of what kind of injury might slow me down that much.

So this is what I'm going to attempt once I have time to work on it (like in January!).  Dragon's JS-2 m ChKZ Production Type.  I have some ModelKasten tracks that came with the kit (got it from ebay more than a year ago) and some Karaya tow cables that I've had for even longer so I might was well use them.  For the official start of this GB I opened the box, sniffed the styrene, snapped these photos and then....put everything back in the stash!! See you in a few months JS-2....

LOL, you've already gotten farther then your last GB Ernest.

What's the difference on this version as to other JS-II's?

Well, I ordered an Eduard PE set for my 152 today. I won't argue with a sale on greatmodels. I may be able to start cleaning up my 152 tomorrow. I don't work after school for once which is great. Can't wait to start.

Only a few more hours guys! I'm not sure why I'm so excited for this build.

Are there any good reference books out on the JSU152?

Good question and one that can probably never be accurately answered. The best source I've heard is that the Russian lost something like 300,000 casualties. German war casualties were probably much less, unless you factor in all the civilians. Later in the 90's, after Russian documents were released, their casualties were even far greater. Much less than Stalingrad though.

Yes, I like wingnut, am stuck in 1:1 painting right now, along with a few other tasks, so I will miss the kick-off. I'm mentally exhausted from the past two weeks and look forward to some rain and my hobby-table.

Does anyone know of any AM sets for the JSU152 I posted earlier? Its kit #6047. I can't find anything at all. The kit is screaming for some AM goodness.

dupes  Thanks for the links to the bison decals.  I have a flammpanzer III (F1) in my stash that is just crying out for one of the sets.  That and the set has a bunch of tiger II as well.  my favorite.

As for being ready for the Kick off.  YOU BET.  I have all the PE goodies (lion roar PE set, griffon tool clamps), Amourscale barrel, Tiger design model commanders coupla and manlet, AFV set of late model tracks.  Of course the basic Tamiya early tiger I kit.  Followed up by the bison decal set for the b-berg tiger.

Might not be able to start on Monday but for sure on the weekend.  I have to work on the base for my Ferdinand.  First attempt at one. 

I'm stoked for this Panther!  If I wrap up two projects this weekend (weathering a Scimitar and Marder III) I'll definitely get cracking on Monday. 

Call it a carrot at the  end of a stick.

In my continued poking around for a suitable subject for this GB, I was looking through some decal sets I picked up for an impending "major project" of mine - trying to research and build all of the Hungarian armor in WWII (mother, grandparents all Hungarian natives - fled Hungary in 1947, lived in Budapest through the war).

I can't wait until Monday. This past week I've gotten into the Soviet spirit by starting a T34 from my stash just to keep me busy until then. I can't wait to start my JSU152. I need to make a paint run on the LHS before I can do anything for the GB. Unfourtunantly I work a lot this weekend and next weekend so balencing build time with homework time will be tough.
