I don't know about you all but I have been just way to busy lately.  Sigh [sigh]

LOL. Thank goodness, I was able to finish one of my own GB's on time for a change. My last one ended up in the box and maybe into the landfill.

This is why I'm not a fan of GB forum. Little to no activity and the thread disappears.

I'm reading my Fall of Berlin, by Antony Beever, that I mentioned earlier in the thread and I can't put it down. It's absolutely addictive reading. So comprehensive and entertaining.

I agree Tigerman,I had read Anthony Beevor's Stalingrad and I loved it,so at your recommendation I ordered his Berlin book from Amazon and it has been just as good.Have you read Crnelius Ryan,s account of the battle ? I thought it to was very good.

No, I am unaware he wrote a book of the account. I finished Berlin, now I'm looking into getting the Stalingrad book.

Bob, good question about the StuG. In the book there was very little armor around Berlin, but there was mention of some assault-guns. It's possible, since this GB encompasses pre-fighting and proximity units as well.

Well, I busted out the DML JS-2m kit that I had in the stash just to take a look at it and its a really nice kit!Thumbs Up [tup] I just may build this one instead of shelling out the $$ for the new Tamiya kit.  Of course with 5-6 weeks left I can still change my mind!!Whistling [:-^]

Tigerman-I agree, not much going on here.  However, I would imagine that as the start date gets closer, the posts would increase.  I know that I've been looking thru the stash (and researching) to find a kit that fits the theme and trying to clear up other GB committments that will allow me to start on this one before 2009.

Speaking of research, one of the kits I have is the DML Georg Bose StuG G Early.  Very little available (unless you read German) on Georg Bose.  Best I can determine is that his StuG unit, StuG Brigade 177 was merged into Pz. Jg Abt 69 which then becam 3. Kavallerie-Brigade.  He ended up a POW in an American camp at war's end and then was transferred to Russian hands.  I guess my big question is-would his StuG qualify for this build?  If no one knows, no problem-I have a few other kits on my 'to build list' that fit and I always have the urge to purchase something new....Whistling [:-^]

Thanks

I wish the guy had more. He had an old Tamiya Lee, an Italeri Pz IV and an Academy Merkava. Boring. He wouldn't budge much on price either.

Wow, what do you have hanging around that's unfinished? SEVEN?!?

Lets see:

Almost finished (either assembly done or already basecolored):  Italeri M4A1 76mm, Tamiya Pz IV Ausf H (old release), Tamiya M4A3 75mm (unfinished from Liberation of Western Europe GB), Tamiya M3 Stuart, Alan Pz II Ausf. C

Still in assembly:  Dragon King Tiger (for Panzer Aces GB), Italeri Jagdpanther L70 (unfinished from the Hunters GB), Dragon Panther Ausf D (unfinished from the Battle for Kursk GB)

Oops that 8!!  And I'm now working on an ancient Tamiya Pz III for the Vintage Armor GB...so I guess that really makes it 9!?!?! Banged Head [banghead]

ANOTHER GB?!?!? Hi Ernest. I built the Dragon JS-2 as my very first Dragon kit and couldn't have happier. I had no problem with the indies, my first experience with them. The only knock is with the upper hull being too close to the return rollers, but I never noticed until somone told me.

The Tamiya kit would no doubt be an improvement, but is it worth the extra cost?

Eric, I also heard (or read) about the hull/roller problem on the Dragon kits.  I think the doog put some shims or spacers to get the correct spacing.  I'm sure its not that difficult.   I confess.....I just want the Tamiya kit because its new and shiny!!Tongue [:P]

I picked up the Dragon SU-100 at a garage sale for $10, so I might go with that kit if I get ambitious enough. I wish he had more Dragon kits, it was his only one.

You bet.  When I get a chance I have more stuff to add.

I really enjoyed Antony Beevor's books, including the one on the Spanish Civil War, although that was a very different type of book.

bobbaily I am goin to build the '323' - Pz-Abt Kummersdorf / Pz-Div Muncheberg, Berlin May 1945.  It would be something different in my collection.  I'll start out with a tamiya tiger and add a bunch of PE and aftermarket goodies.  Good thing I have time to round up everything.

Thank you for letting me decide on which one first.

Moose-you're welcome.

Thanks but you can have first pick-I probably won't get started until Nov/Dec at the earliest...and I'll change my choice a couple of times after that....Whistling [:-^]

Based on limited research, I can use either an Early, Mid or Late Tiger for this build and I have all three in the stash.  I read in Tigers in Combat I that some Mids from 3./Spz Abt 502 were sent to the Kurland area in the time frame that this build covers. I will probably need to do some more research about specific Mid's if I go that route.

Thanks for the info bobbaily.  I found it by doing the search.  By the way which tiger do you plan on building for this GB?  I don't want to copy yours, being as you pick a tiger I first.

Thanks again for the pics info.

Moose-I querried over in the armor section for info a while back.  Kykeon posed a picture & a link for more photos.  Here's the link to the post in the armor section for a Brandenberg Tiger:

/forums/959084/ShowPost.aspx

Hope this helps.

edit-Moose-I'm using Monzilla and it doesn't seem to like the Cut & Paste function, so I typed in the above link.  You may have to try typing the link in or just open up a search in the forum and try Rebuilt Early Tiger.  Sorry.

Thanks for the change.  Still looking for more photos.  I found some that Bision Decals have done.  If you or anyone else could point me in the right direction to find more photos would be very helpful.  Any books that would have the photos, I might be able to afford.

Thanks again for the offer of help.  I would like to make my build as accurate as possible.
