Yep, chalk that one up to Manny. Looking really good, lots of mods going on.

http://1389blog.com/pix/anim-question-mark-smiley-75.gif  Any idea where he went to after getting banned?

He has joined a merry little band of modelers on a site named the same as a particular brand of canned lunchmeat. There are also several other current and former FSM types there...

Well.........  http://www.animateit.net/data/media/smiley712/white-flag-25.gif  I give up.

"Moe Joe" got auto-censored?  Hmmm......

Okay, no worries. I did however scrape it up last night and take the plunge. Somethiong about my wife being on the phone all night, catching with the girlfriends got me motivated to do some modeling. so I jumped i and did the hull mods included in the Verlinden bag (bucket more like) and bot the hull halves together, or rather what's left of them after getting them prepped for the resin. I also knocked up a pair of adjustable idler mounts from a couple of Trump T72 parts and di some filling of various gaps and holes with Aves 2-part putty.

I figure that since I'm not planning on having the engine on display, I can get away with just the parts supplied by Francois, and paint later. Hope that works....

Anyway, pics so far:

Hello all, back in town, and I've been so tanked (har har) from catching up at work after a week-plus absence that I haven't even turned on the light in the man cave, much less had the *** to go in there and model. Gaak.

http://www.coquinaria.it/forum/core/images/smilies/bow.gif While the original project turned out great, that turret upgrade is definitely going to be a real plus.

Speaking if time, this is gonna take a while: blending my addittion to the turret base and toning down the crazy texture done by Verlinden.

First "layer" of Mr.Surfacer 500 on:

Lots of smoothing and layering to do yet, and I really don't want to lose the nice details on the turret.

I figured anything from the '70's was out for sure, so no Egyptian or Syrian from that time period, and no Tiran since all those came from stocks captured in the 73 war, but current Syrian might work, and I keep seeing pics of absolutley hammered examples that look like good subjects. Still researching, but I may yet end up pulling my one set of T55/62 tracks out, but I was hoping to save them for something else. We'll see, I've got plenty of time.

T-62 service was pretty widespread in the Middle East. I know the Iraqis had T-62s with T-72 tracks on them. Not sure about the Syrians as I have not checked any photos for that. The Egyptians tossed out the Soviets as their supplier long before they started updating the T-62 family. I dont know of any Balkan countries offhand that used the T-62. I did not come across any in my time there... but that does not mean much.

BTW, that turret looks like a big improvement on the kit turret. And thanks for fixing the photos. I like Leopards, but I love the Soviet Cold War stuff...

Fixed.....  oops.

I have an extra set of Friul T72 tracks, so I'm thinking Syrian, or something from the Balkans maybe? I though about a Tiran, but want to keep it cheap as possible, since I'm not exactly starting with a top-quality kit, and the Friuls are on a Tamiya T72 that I don't particularly like anyway.

Tamiya T62. Yep, that one.
Posted by RBaer on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 3:53 PM

Wow, how to start?

I finished assembly of the Leo last night and was still awake and in the model room. That's a problem. So I went digging through the stash, and pulled out all the T62 stuff I had been accumulating since the Trump T62 kits came out. Why? Well, all the AM stuff for the Tamiya kits got real cheap then, and some of the AM stuff is pretty good. So what I have here is almost two whole T62 kits, a large Verlinden set which includes a drop-in engine and turret, both resin, lots of etch and some more resin bits. I also have at least two Eduard etch sets, one really old and one pretty new, several gun tubes from different makers and a resin mantlet cover. I think I have about $30 worth of stuff here, by weight about the same price as a T-bone.

So since the worst and most visibly bad part of the Tamiya kit is probably the turret, I thought I'd see how the kit and resin turrets compared. Soo-prize, soo-prize, they're virtually the same. Just grand. Also noted was the serious shrinkage at the base of the resin turret, making it concave, with the "ring" about 3mm smaller in diameter than the hole in the hull top. Hmmmm.......

In a frenzy (it's getting late now) I clip off the edges of one of the kit turret lower halves and slide it onto the base of the resin turret, and by gosh if it doesn't go right on, giving me a good flat surface, the correct ring to match to the hull, and most assuredly best, raising the resin turret by about 1.5mm, making it look more like it should. So after about 20 minutes with some Aves 2-part putty, here I am:

Still to do is contour the bottom of the added putty to look like the bottom of the turret and match textures, but this might look a whole lot better.

Scuze me while I trim on this sow's ear over here.....
