This is the best explanation of the processes that I also use. The subtlety of the modulation process and how many layers of lightened color determine the "age" of your paint job.

Just wondering( if it's not too late) if you would be willing to give a brief synopsis of how you did the treads on this build, I like the way yours came out.  I'm nearing the finish line with a T34 1941 in 1/72 by Dragon. By the way, it's only taken me two years to get to this point

I'll have to build up some tracks to demonstrate, but in a nutshell I painted the tracks Tamiya Nato Black. Then a light coat of Model Master Gun metal.  Applied a pigment wash a redish brown color.  When dry dry brushed with gun metal and then steel.

Easy enough I'll give it a try.
