Your painting of the figures is truly impressive!

The cutaway is fascinating indeed! A job well done!

hello dutch this is some really nice modeling. give one a good idea how buttoned up and cramped a tanker is. and this is 1 of the more spacious ones. imagine being in a panzer 1.

Really nice.  I like to see figures, especially well done figures, with kits.  Adds reference and context.

Thanks,

Thanks Marco. I must have got a warped lower hull and not realised it. I ended up scrapping that build as it was very slowly driving me insane! I usually take paint references from kits as a very basic guide and they are, on occasion really wrong. The best thing is to google items and do reading on colours and actual paint orders from OKW. For example. Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 is not actually dark yellow. It was originally and wasn't in the RAL register but submitted under Dunkelgelb Nach Muster (dark yellow after sample) This colour was used on new vehicles from February 1943 until the end of Kursk (August 1943) when OKW changed the colour and what became RAL 7028 wasn't dark yellow but was a beige/tan colour and this was because of feedback from frontline troops. this was the colour that was the base colour for all vehicles and armour as well as fighting equipment ( flak guns etc.) this colour changed to a more brown in 1944 and a lighter and more greener version in December/January 1945. Also, the base shade changed from Dunkelgelb to RAL 6003 Green in January 1945 along with the last shade of Dunkelgelb. This was actually trialled in combat operations by the King Tigers (series turret) from the 503 heavy tank battalion who took part in Operation Panzerfaust in Budapest in October 1944. the scheme and shades received favourable reports from the commanders and crews and was implemented Christmas/new year '44/'45. For those wanting to do a panzer or other equipment of 1945 vintage, at the moment, RAL 7008 is the closest shade of the last Dunkelgelb variant and is available in the Vallejo model air range. It is very slightly darker, but is the best stand-in at the moment. Enjoying your build. James

Hello,

Thanks, i had no fit issues with the floor board. Only fit issues i had was with the engine. And about the color for thos bags, i just painted them according to the instructions.

Anyway, i almost finished the wheels and tracks. A few minor things to do and they are good to go!

On to the next little project!

Gr Marco

Looks perfect to me! My most hated part of armour modeling, with it out of the way hopefully it's a downhill run.

I really like the cutaway idea. It makes the whole tank look completely different.

Those tracks and wheels turned out very nicely.

Fantastic work there Marco.

Apart from the figures, have you had any fit issues with the footplates that go around the turret basket base??

I must point out that Gurtsacks were always Green RAL 7009 with black metal tops as were demolition charge cases.

recently at my storage warehouse we had cause to go inside every tank/tank destroyer and remove all the demolition charge cases when we found that two cases from our current restoration project still had the charge and fuse inside. THe army disposal team were very good and managed to remove all explosives from the cases that still had them inside without damaging the cases and blowing us all up. They made a very large hole in a field when detonated with a controlled explosion.

The cases came from 6 different types of vehicle including The GD/Munchenberg Panther A which was built in August 1944 (Dunkelgelb base colour and without exception all demolition charge cases are RAL 7009.

I think you would love Meng's Series and initial turret kits with the interior sets. The design of the kit will offer you a display option which means that you don't have to take a razor saw to the kit

Great job on the figures there!

And the cut-away looks cool. Love how you and James/SnapDragonXXX are going about your cut-aways in similar but different ways.

Thanks everyone! Yeah i saw him working on the Panther indeed!! love the interior kits with the clear hull!

Finally got the last piece done for the lower hull! Applied zimmerit with white Miliput and a AFV zimmerit tool. Still needs some cleanup and sanding and grinding here and there!

Oh and the photo looks like a cover photo, because it is, for my facebook page ;) feel free to join or follow: https://www.facebook.com/Dutchscalemodeling/

Great job on all them figures was the set made for this tank

The figures where designed for the Meng King Tiger, but since they are both King Tigers, you would expect that the dimensions from the tank are the same. So they fitted the Takom as well with a little bit of love :P.

Those figures look stunning, Marco!

After all that nice interior and figure work, can't wait to see what you're going to do with the exterior of this beast.

Thanks! i have a little sneak peak for you ;) still a long way to go!!

See you on the next update!!

Thanks for that detail, much appreciated. I'll give it a try.

I've heard that a wet palette is crucial for figure face painting.

Wilbur Wright

Terrific job on the figure. Could you let us know what paints you used for the face and your general technique for painting the face/flesh?

I have just built the Takom Maus V1 and have about 8 Miniart figures to paint,  to go with it.

Thank you Wilbur! Usually i go off by painting the eyes first, i start with basic fleshtone or light flesh from vallejo for the "white" and black/grey for the "black". Make a cross (so horizontal dash for the white and a small vertical dash for the pupil) and align them as good as possible. After that is done i basecoat the face, in this case it was brown sand from Vallejo thinned down so you need two or three layers (if you want a lighter skin tone you can go with a lighter basecoat, but imo lighter looks to lifeless). Carefully block in the area around the eyes untill you have the desired eye size. Now the fun begins. Take 5 or 6 blobs of brown sand and add basic skintone on a wet palletr, so the first blob the basic skintone is almost not noticable and the last blob the brown sand is almost not noticable, thin them down so the paint runs back on itself on the wet pallete. Start by painting the raised areas on the figures face with the first highlight, such as the cheekbones, his chin, forehead (if not wearing some cap), upper eyelids, the tip of his nose and dont forget the back of his neck, top of his ears and the top of his hands. Let it dry for about ten minutes, to prevent the paint getting "broken". Then on with the second highlight and so on, leaving a small area of the previous highlight, ending with almost the pure basic skintone very thinned doen, applying only a very very small dot to the most raised areas.

After the highlights i go on with the shadows. Throw on another 3 or 4 blobs of the base color and add a LITTLE burnt red to the first to blobs and i say a little because the red can be quit dominating. The third blob i add a bit of black red and on the fourth blob i add a little black red and some black. Thin the shadows down to almost tainted water. First apply the first shadow to the deepest areas of the face like the lower side of the cheeks, around the eyesocket, the sacks under the eyes, under the lower lip, the underside of the nose and around the line where the hair meets the skin. After the first shadow, on with the rest of the shadows, leaving a little bit shadow from the previous shadow and ending with the darkest shadow only a small dot in the deepest areas.

Now blend everything together thinning down the highlights to tainted water and blend the second with the third highlight using the thinned down third highlight and so on.

And thats pretty much it!

Hope u can do something with it and good luck painting the figures ;)

Gr Marco
