Or, just buy a VW and a boat
I'm a helper!
For aversion therapy, find a buddy with a boat and offer to help grease the axles on the trailer (they will need it, no one has ever "just did that last week" ) or change the oil in the motor.
Find some compadre with a VW and go take a trip in the summer across town or to where ever the VW parts place is.
Mission accomplished.

Gee, that's just what my wife said the other day.
Wait, no she didn't.......

Ok folks. Here's the completed chassis and interior. I don't have the wheels and tires on just yet because I like to do that in one of the last phases of auto builds. Just making sure that I have a good stance and no "three wheeler" look. The only thing I don't have pictured with the interior is the first aid kit. That will be fastened to the L/H rear side wall of the interior next to the rear seat.
Oh wow that looks good! Love the worn metal around the engine and on the jerry can.

Thanks Cliff!! I had mixed emotions on the Jerry can but decided to leave well enough alone.
Now moving on to my favorite part. Paint. We have.....color.
That interior looks great. That’s gonna be a good looking bug.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Oh cool, that looks good!
That interior/engine/boot on the wrong end is (are???) a masterpiece, Joe.
Thanks fellas!!
Greg: Boot on the wrong end? Whatcha referring to pal?
Alot of progress yesterday. Getting close now I think. You really can't' see the weathering in this pic but it's there. Maybe it'll all show up in the glamour shots when I get to the end of the build.
Everything is looking excellent. Wonderful work on the the chassis and interior. All the little additions sure help it look the part. Nice paint on the body. It's all coming together really sharp.

I was joking around about the engine being in back and the trunk (boot) being in front. It seemed funny at the time.
Joe: 'Preciate the good word brother. Been out of action lately at work....just been too dang hot to go on my walks at lunch. Catch up to you soon.
Greg: No worries pal. Now that I've caught on I see what you mean. lol
Been working on the body parts and getting everything ready for assembly. Waiting just a wee bit longer till I get the 1/35 tool set that's coming in the mail to round out the interior or front trunk space. Dunno which way I'll go with 'er yet but we've got more detail parts coming anyhow.
Really cool. You're making great progress on her!
Very nice.

Thanks you guys!
Got alot of stuff done to this one in the last week that finally all came together enough for an update. Windows are installed along with a lot of knick knacks on the body like tail lights , headlights, rearview mirror and little stuff like that. I was finally able to install the chassis into the body and mount up some tire/ wheel assemblies for it as well so she's on wheels now. The only real shortcoming I've found with this kit is in the windshield fit. Man......after all the good fortune I've had with it I found the Achilles heel in this model. The windshield.....good Lord the windshield. Make dang sure you test fit the heck out of it because you're going to have to sand the living daylights out of it to get it to fit right. I beat mine into shape but it was sure tough. On wheels....
What?? You're not going to back half it and do a v8 swap
Seriously, looking great. Really nice
Thanks,
John

Hi,
He almost looks like he is smiling in the picture.
PS. Your build looks great
Excellent progress my friend. It looks great. Appears that despite the fit issue, you got the windshield in there nicely. Sure looking forward to the all finished up version. Well done Joe.
That blows about the windshield but she looks perfect right now.
Thanks Joe and Cliff!!
Well it doesn't look like you'll have to wait much longer Joe. Finished 'er up today.
Late last year I saw a build review of this kit in Fine Scale Modeler. I've always been a fan of the older Beetles and have also wanted to build a model of one from WWII so needless to say I just had to have this kit. Soooo....my wife got it for me for Christmas. I've been waiting for a slot in which to build it so I finally got one here a month or so ago and I had a lot of fun building it. The only real problem that it has is in the windshield fit. There's alot of sanding that needs to happen with the glass itself if you want it to fit perfectly in the opening. I managed to get it to work for me but it wasn't without its struggles. I will say this however, you will not find a better Type 82 out there on the market that has this kind of detail along with ease of build. IMO this is the absolute best kit out there for this car.
I simply could not build this car and NOT put any aftermarket items or scratchbuilding into it so I started by adding spark plug wires and fuel lines to the engine, threw a German newspaper in the front seat from Fields of Glory and miscellaneous items like a helmet, map as well as the map bag, binoculars and a bread pouch in the back of the passenger compartment along with a set of glasses laid on top of the newspaper in the front seat from the Mini Art German Equipment kit. I also added a first aid kit on the passenger compartment wall next to the rear seat. The exhaust tail pipe outlet was drilled out as well. I was originally going to go with Tamiya German Grey as the body color but decided it was just too dark for my liking so I went with, of all things, some Stynlrez grey primer for the body color. After a good coating of Stynlrez I weathered it with an airbrushed coating of Mig Dark Wash which seemed to darken it juuuuuust the right amount. Decals are OOB and after those were applied a very light coat of Model Master Acrylic Flat Clear was applied to the whole body.
Any how....here's the completed build:

Bravo on a spectacular finish Joe. You did one fine effort on it. Your use of the Stynelrez worked out terrific. You've done that Beetle some righteous justice.
Beautiful work. I love the way you handled this build. The little extras like the newspaper and glasses, etc, and the gentle touch on the weathering.
Thanks fellas. Yeah I didn't want to get too awful carried away with the weathering. I guess I could have but I felt that it would be taking away from the opened up display of the car. In looking at the finished photos I see a couple of areas that I could have spent a little more time on though.
That is gorgeous work!
mustang1989Yeah I didn't want to get too awful carried away with the weathering.
And a person could make an excellent case that this is a Staff vehicles, mostly operated on roads when not parked in the Motor Pool, and not schlepping through the mud with the panzers.
