M4 Sherman Dozer in progress PICS

This would be the partner to my M32 B3 that I posted last week. Those of you who saw that post will remember the turret hanging on the crane..well here's the rest of the kit. This is Tamiya's M4 Sherman with a whole bunch of AM parts. This truly was an exercise in after market parts (don't try this at home without a major credit card).

The AM parts are as follows:
- Verlinden M1 Dozer conversion kit
- Chesapeake Model Designs Turret
- Tank Workwhop Interior
- Royal Models PE
- Jordi Rubio 75mm aluminum gun barrel
- Fruilmoddelismo tracks
- Collector's Brass Tools
- Grandt Line bolt heads
- Assorted sizes of solder for cables and hydraulic hoses

The kit was painted with Tamiya Acrylics.

that model is sweet but i will at a little constructive critcism; i would weather it more, i wish i could build that good though!

Thanks for the comments juniormodeler, I should have posted it as a "in progress" work. It is still a long way from being finished. I have corrected the topic now to state that.

Great job!! I have to say, you have turned rather boarding subject (the Sherman) into an interesting scene. I might have to build a Sherman kit some time, after the 10 or so other projects I have planned. Mind if I ask what you used for references??

Great stuff Robert. The part I like best is the turret 'hole' on the hull, with the hundreds of teeth. Did you cut them out one by one??? Impressive, whatever the case! Can't wait to see more!

Dan - we'll have to work on encouraging everyone to get some of their pictures posted here. We're all here to share and I personally think this is the best way to do it. I really enjoy seeing others workmanship on display and it helps to have brother & sister modellers look them over and give their comments.

Edog - be vewy, vewy careful about laying your hands on a Sherman..... once bitten by the bug you'll never go back to other kits. Boring... to me never ... there are so many variations of the Sherman I could build them for the rest of my days. As far as references go, the interior references I used were from photos that I took a few years ago of an M4A1 Sherman ..... interior is basically the same. For the dozer I had a few pics from reference books that I have and then ran across some excellent shots of one that is in an open air museum in Italy on the net.

Shermans, boring? If you're just talking about coloration, maybe... (still, a lot to choose from there!). But like Robert said, there are soooo may variations.

You don't happen to own a real Sherman, do you Robert?
Quite a few of them out there, I understand.
Not cheap, though.

Saw one just last August stuck in the sand on a beach in Saipan. Just waiting for you to tow it home!

Great looking kit man. I'm pretty new to the whole armor scene so stuff like that gives me some pretty good ideas for future projects. Thanks for posting the pics, they look great, nice detail.

Thanks again for your kind words all.

Brian - I tried to talk my wife into the purchase of our own little Sherman but no luck. She didn't like the colour and they're not the most comfortable of rides. Maybe I should have had her cut those teeth out, by the end of the night she might have given in to the purchase.

Josho - welcome to the armour scene .... the bug will take hold. God's words....great words to live by.

Wow, beautiful work, your are a master craftsman! I am almost
embarrassed to mention this but... just a VERY minor detail that I noticed. There would not be any rounds in the turret while performing maintance. This is key area for me, being I work in the munitions career field. Like I said it is a very minor detail and I hate to even mention it. The models are beautiful!!!! It makes me want to switch over from German to Sherman (hehe poet, didn't know it)

Be careful Richard .... once the Sherman bug bites you're in big trouble.
Never even thought about the rounds being removed .... it is only logical. Wasn't really even thinking along the maintenance lines. What I was trying to do with this build was find a way to display all those interior details, the M32 was the perfect vehicle for this.

Thanks Jon, I will keep you all posted as this project moves along.
The tracks are from a company called Fruilmodellismo and are indeed a white metal track. I picked them up a couple of years ago from Chesapeake Model Designs and they still carry them. I have heard they are available from other suppliers too so make sure you check your prices out. They are quite easy to work with and certainly add some weight to this project.

Are you intending for the final product to be as you've shown it? ie. the turret being lowered/removed by the other tank? Looks like a good 'scene'. Is there going to be a diorama? What color are your underwear?

Murray - yes I intend on displaying it in more or less that configuration. I'm not sure if it's lifting it or putting it back ..... on or the other. No dios for me...I suffer from a serious lack of space but I'll try for an interesting static display.
Olive Drab ... what other colour would I wear??????

Speaking of the number of variants, when you get done with army subjects you can switch to the USMC. Have you done a Skink yet?

Skink is on my to-do list Derek. But it looks like I may have to scratchbuild the turret. Only one company produced it in resin and it's OOP. But approximately 2 weeks after I finish scratchbuilding it, someone will produce it again in resin.

Wow Robert, I'm left wanting. You are THE Sherman Freak.

That is some outstanding work. It may not be right as mentioned before, but I think the ammo in the turret really looks sharp. It just completes the whole ensemble. The detail and wear inside the hull are the icing on a really big piece of cake.

All that work only to go up in flames after being kissed by an 88...... Wink [;)]

Wow shermanfreak, just a fantastic job thus far. Somehow I figured you would be capable of doing a fanatstic job, considering the awesome advice you give to tons of modellers (including myslef) here on these forums. I work basically on German Armor, but if I ever decided to be adventerous and do a Sherman, you would be my go to guy. I appreciate the pics, and I think this thread shows how great this hobby is, and how helpful we all can be to each other. Even if it is some good, wholesome constructive critism.
