Finally finished this Sahariana so after all my whining about the kit, this will be my last post regarding this kit.

I would like to thank everybody for their encouragement and kind words.

Regards,

Terry Burke.

Ps, I really enjoyed the finishing but the shots do not really show the use of Mig Pigments  very well.

I knew this kit would haunt me 'till the bitter end.

Well, as promised, I got something started for this Group Build. It is Italeri's M-20 Utility Car. Here is the suspension that I built:

This is the lower hull with the top hull part test fit into place:

Oh, and I don't know of these would be accepted since I'd started them before I joined this, but here are two pics of my latest progress on my two Italeri Country Houses. One has the porch, anmd the other one doesn't.

I hope you enjoy these, comments are welcome.

Cool Duke. I like the houses and the scout-car must be the size of a thumb. LOL

Hi all,

I'm about to embark on my 1st 1/35 scale armor model, an old Italeria/Revell Marder III H "Tank Cracker."  I think it's the same one Tigerman's bulding, and I was wondering if anyone had any basic advice for me for working with an older kit like this.  I assume it's eligible for the GB, so I figured I'd post this question here first.

I would say  be patient. I'm building the old Panzerjager I. The kit is really good, but need a bit more attention than today's kits. More sink marks and more fiddling with the fit. But they are still great kits! (and not too expensives)

I'v managed to get the Puma pretty much back together, just need to steal some width indicater from another kit and then it's ready for paint which I should be laying on later today so I'll post pics of my progress later.

That's pretty sound advice. Be careful on the directions too, sometimes things aren't as clear as they should be. It's a pretty nice kit overall and the fit is good. Always dryfit too. Welcome to the build.

Guys, this build is almost 10 weeks old! Where has the time gone?

Thanks for the advice tigerman... I've got a question for you on the kit tho... is the interior even salvagable?  Those injector marks in the floor tread wreck that, and it doesn't seem like the seats are accurate... those poor guys are sitting on the floor, and there's no equipment in there.  I don't have any pictures of the inside of a Marder III H or the 38(t), but there HAS to be a whole bunch of stuff in there, like pedals and a steering wheel and some controls, and I'm not spending any money on this kit, but scratchbuilding whatever I can.  I just finished making a new exhaust can, and am working on fixing the huge sink marks in the other aprt of the exhaust and filing the massive gap in between the two exterior rear wall pieces.

Thanks for any help you guys (especially tigerman hopefully) can give me!

One more thing.... I need some suggestions on making rivets.... I'm gonna need to replace a whole bunch, and don't have the money to buy a punch set, but I have plasticard, plastic rod, and differnt putties and was wondering if there was anyway to easily whip up a whole bunch.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the interior floor. I just don't see a fix for it myself. Once the gun is in, you can't really see any of the interior anyway. My kit was cheap and I'm not going gung-ho on it. Too many others in the stash. The seats are pretty simple and drab too.

First proof that I'm actually building the kit.... real cheezy looking pic, but you can see the new exhaust can and the metal fenders I spent today making (Yes, from a soda can... it was the best material I could find.)  Next up is more work on the top half (Gun and cowling) and finishing the fenders with the appropriate braces and such... I'm having alot of fun with this.

Great job so far. How do you get the ribs on the fenders?  I likwe what you did with the muffler. I had to burrow mine with an exacto knife.

Some good progress from everyone.

Duke, is that utility car in your usual scale, or a 1/35 offering...?

Very creative! When you don't like it, make it yourself!  Excellent

Hey Gun tech, Terry here, is that panzerjager 1 the yoke with the czech 47mm in an open fighting compartment, if so post some pice please. I never seen how Italeri dealt with it in 35th. I do remember the old 1/72nd or 1/76th Esci and while a very interesting vehicle the kit was a little bit shakey, but that was over 20 years ago.

Good look with your build and I hope to see it soon.

Regards,

Terry.

Hi Terry. Yes it is the one you are talking about. I did post some pics of the interior with PE on page 17. I will wait a bit for new pics as I am right in the middle of cleaning up a wash for the inside. I detailled it and the gun a bit more since Wink [;)] The rest of the build should go smooth as almost all my parts and PE are ready.

Some more Marder IIIH updates from me without pics.... tonight I made the four fender braces for each side and installed them... sitll no good way to provide the rivest tho.  Also added the rear details, tow hooks and such, and replaced the chain on the one bit with some super fine jewelers' chain... looks pretty nice.

I'd better finish mine and post it before you do, otherwise my pathetic effort will be hearing the crickets sing.  Wink [;)]

I see why you redid the muffler, it's a piece of something.

I was suppossed to get alot done today, but my daughter has the flu, so I only got a tad of weathering on the tires and some work on the muffler done. I broke a fender off to boot. Fortunately, it ddin't seem to hurt my paint job getting it back on.

Could you get a pic with something of contrast to give the M-20 a size comparison? I'm betting it's really small.

Ben working on thePAK 40/43 gun assembly while some other glue dries, and I've got a question, but this probably isn't the right place to post it (unless you know tigerman).... on the sight detail, is the sight itself supposed to have lenses on both ends?  It's not a difficult fix, and it'd look alot better if it's supposed to be there, but I don't know where to look for reference.

I would say yes, but the side on the gunner's end might have an rubber eyepiece or some kind of little tube that you can get close to and read your mesurments inside.

Since my refs aren't very good, I concur with Gun Tech on this.

Thanks for the info....I drilled out the sight and added a seam on the eye-piece end so I can paint it to look like rubber.... also tonight I added the cross supports to the fenders, dinged up the fenders, mounted the front plates and fixed the sink marks on the gun support yoke thing.... and dinged up the rubber roadwheel rims.... looks great so far.  Next up is more gun assembly and making the tool box out of metal so it can be dinged up...

One question tho, for the Italeri group build, can I add some Tamiay figures for a diorama?

Pleas do. Just as long as the main subject is Italeri, which in this case is.

You got it my friend! Here it is with the wheels assembled and some interior painting done:

The Exacto blade is for size reference.

Comments are welcome. Thanks for looking.
